  1. Yeah, $7.22 for a 6 pack is not very good at all. TW had the 11 pack on sale for $4.18 so I would be cool with buying just 1 or 2 packs of 11 and back ordering them if they were just out of stock. Called TW and they said there was not an option to back order because the product was discontinued. That answer sounded fishy to me but that what I was told.
  2. Hey A-Jay, speaking of the TG76NP-BN I am having just a ridiculous time finding any in size 1 in RED as Tackle Warehouse is out. Thought a simple Google search would do it but nope. Being such a fan of these hooks like I am I was curious if you had any ideas?
  3. I know he may just be trying to sell rods but Seth Feider has been going on and on about how much he loves his Tutula TAEL731MXS and what a great multipurpose spinning rod it is. Anyone have any experience with these or this lone of rods?
  4. I'm enjoying the recommendations so far and I'm going to follow up on them but if say I could probably do $150 for a reel and the same on the rod so I'd like to see some higher priced options than I'm getting. Looking for a spinning reel that's a joy to use and a rod that offers a ton of sensitivity at it's price point.
  5. Yeah, I am of a different mindset here. I am looking at this as a tool, a tool I need to add to my fishing arsenal. If I spend more (but no where near top end) be it because I feel obligated to use it because I spent real money on it or because it is light and feels good and I like the sensitivity I will be more apt to use it and stick with it.
  6. I have always been a power fisherman with bait casters and the like. This year I am forcing myself to branch out to new stuff and one of those ways will be buying a spinning setup. I have resisted the fairy wand but it's just time and I am clueless as to what to look for. As for the baits I envision throwing I do not see myself doing super light, finesse stuff but wacky worms, vertical jigging, might learn a drop shot one day, lighter soft plastics and such. As to price I know you can really spend a ton in the spinning world when it comes to the most sensitive gear and I do not want to go down that rabbit hole. In the BC world in my experience you really see a difference in reels when you hit the $100 mark and for rods its $150-175. What would you say the price equivalent is for spinning rods and reels to see a real noticeable jump in performance? Just trying to get a rough idea at what price point I would be looking at for a rod and then also a reel. As for what I am looking for most of my BC rods are 7' to 7'3" until you get to the larger cranking stuff obviously. So this being the opposite end of things I assumed I would want to get something in the 6'6" to 6'9" range but now I hear a lot of guys saying 7' to 7'3" is the way to go with a spinning rod. As for the reel I honestly do not know what I am looking for here be it the reel size, features, etc. I am not looking for a technique specific spinning rod/reel here, I am looking for a spinning setup that will handle all spinning applications here. But an idea of what I would be looking at price wise for both would be great, the thought process for what size/power rod and reel specs and such would be much appreciated. Also obviously any specific recommendations would be great too. Thanks
  7. I have still been thinking about this and was curious if anyone can give me an answer here. I would expect the Champion 735C to be labeled a Mag Heavy like the 735C in both the Fury and Sierra line so I am just confused. Especially when the Champion 734C I own is considered a Heavy and I would certainly think a frog/jig rod should be stouter than it. I know that powers of rods can run different compared to other brands but this is in the same brand of rods we are talking about here!!!
  8. I think I would disagree with that. Wouldn't WHERE it bends alone sort of dictate how MUCH it would bend? Meaning if it had a moderate action it would bend deeper in the blank and wouldn't gravity alone make that rod bend more? In that scenario I assume that would speak more to how much it bends versus what the power is, right?
  9. I had a question about comparing rods to each other and their attributes. Let's say you have two rods, same length, build material, both by the same manufacturer but there are NO markings on it showing a model number, power, action, etc. My question is how would you compare the "power" of the rod (be it a M, MH, HVY, etc) to the other? For the action I have always just put the rod tip on the ground and pressed down on it to determine where in the blank it bends and how fast it would recover. But as for the power how could you determine this, other then catching 10 fish with each one and such and evaluating them that way? Like if you were in a store or something.
  10. I needed to buy 2 of the 11 packs of the RED Mustad KVD Elite 1X Strong 2X Short Shank Trebles (TG76NP-RB) in size 1. TW had a great sale on them for only $4.18 which is a good deal. Spent some free time over the next few days putting together my order only to find out at checkout they had just sold out. I have done a few Google searches, looked around on eBay and I cannot seem to find any or if I do they are for astronomical prices. Anyone have a suggestion for me where to find them? It should not be this hard LOL
  11. I was searching all over YouTube the other day for Gary doing this when you mentioned it. Do you just kind of lightly hold the line between your two fingers or do you hold it tight enough that when you retrieve line you are truly creating some tension on the line?
  12. So if you were going to use a reel with a small narrow spool like you mentioned would it be "smart" to go with a reel that features a slightly higher stated IPT to somewhat "compensate?"
  13. I assume you recommend it? What is that "water wick" thing I see in your box?
  14. Yeah, that's certainly what I would plan on doing if I had something big come up. I was just curious if anyone had a guy locally if you needed something done ASAP or if it was something fairly simple that did not warrant mailing something off and all that but you just weren't comfortable doing it yourself.
  15. Is there a specific "jig" only box? I only see one labeled jig/bladed jig model, am I missing one that I do not see?
  16. Tom, I would love to hear more about the technique you use to enhance strike detection while fishing jigs? Didn't you suggest with your non-reel hand holding the line in-between your index finger right before it enters the reel or something similar?
  17. I'm actually very interested to see what all stuff Lew's put out with him in mind. You do not bring him in and pay him what they have to be paying him unless you are willing to completely give him what all he wants design-wise so to also sell a ton of gear. Let's face it, the man moves merch.
  18. I would like to see this tool
  19. Yep you get like 3 emails about it, assuming you bought it for yourself. The 3rd email gives you the number and password to use. Usually get it 1 to 1.5 hours after ordering it.
  20. I apologize, I now realize you were saying it was actually made by SK. I thought you merely were reading the box and said it was braid by Strike King and if so that was rather obvious lol
  21. A hair off topic but being that it is "local" to us I had a random question for you guys that I thought I would ask here. Don't have any pressing needs for any work now but I was curious if there is a quality reel/rod repair and maintenance place or guy around here anyone recommends? Figured it better to ask now versus waiting until I need the services of someone!
  22. While it has an aluminum frame it looks like it has graphite side plates. Unfortunately none of the stores around here still have this model in store for me to hold and play with so I would have to buy it blind off the net. Some reels designed like this feel a little "hollow" and lack a feeling of strength and stability. I'd think if there were it would only be amplified by big crank baits that put off a lot of vibration. NOT so with this design/model, though?
  23. I ended up buying a 1500 yard spool of 10lb Big Game. Looking at it's diameter compared to the other lines I will use with it that pound test made the most sense regarding knot size and all that. Now I have to start fill up all these naked reels with it as backing. Is filling them up a 1/3rd a good rule of thumb for backing?
