  1. The main rod I use, because it's easier to carry just one around the lake on foot along with my backpack tacklebox and icechest for my drinks and lunch, is starting to get too low on line, from changing lures. The line I use is spectra braid. My question is, is it ok to connect more braid to the braid I have on there? If so, is a uni to uni knot good for that? I've tried a uni to uni knot to connect more mono Trilene XT to it, but somehow it keeps getting all jacked up. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, if anything at all. I've seen the FG knot, but it looks like it would take me too long to even try, not to mention messing up lots of line in the process.. lol. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  2. I'm going fishing in the morning. I'll be on the lake for a good little while. Gonna try it out wacky and maybe drop shot too. Don't know much about the Neko rig and I don't think there's a small nail that would work for it around here. Anyways, if it works well, I'll make a post about it. If it doesn't, I'll probably post about that as well. Hope something works anyways tomorrow. I've been on vacation all week and no bass yet, only a goggle eye I caught yesterday on a T-rigged Zoom finesse worm watermelon red colored in some pretty clear water.
  3. Anyone in a boat should give a shore/bank fisherman a wide berth, unless invited by them. People on shore are bound to their spot, and are not afforded the same level of freedom as a boater. Where I mostly get to fish, Lake Buhlow, there's a fair amount of accessible bank to fish from. Just not really alot of good cover that I can get to along it, at least that I can see anyways. In the event I was in the situation, I would invite them in to where I was fishing out of respect for their knowledge over mine and the chance to watch and learn.
  4. I guess if they came to the spot I was fishing from the bank, you know fishing towards the bank I was fishing, I would reel in my line and watch them to see if I could learn something.
  5. Well at least I only paid .75 cents for them. Who knows maybe they'll work ok here in Rapides Parish.
  6. Honestly I don't think I would ever have to make the choice to either stay and fish a spot or give up my spot for the pros. I'm a bank fisherman. Unless they're fishing from the bank too, I guess I would continue fishing. It would be cool to be able to get in one their boats and just learn, keeping as quiet as possible just watching them. Don't see that happening though. Don't even really know if any big tournaments come here in my area or not. I know they don't on Lake Buhlow anyways. Not the best place for bass fishing, at least in my experience there.
  7. I have been looking around a couple places to find some hooks like those. Can't seem to find them though. Guess I could be looking in the wrong spot. I have noticed, at least in Academy, nit all of the different hooks are in the same area of the fishing section. It would take alot longer to do a thorough check there than I have time for...lol.
  8. These are the hooks I'm talking about. Can these be used for wacky and drop shot rigging?
  9. Thank you. I will definitely try those ways next time I'm at the lake. Do you think it could be wacky rigged as well? If so, I have some weedless 2/O bait holder hooks, can those be used for wacky and drop shot rigging?
  10. With it looking similar to a Bubbling Shaker or even the SKRT Recon, how do you rig those baits and fish them?
  11. Yesterday I was at Wal Mart in the fishing section and was looking through the discount boxes and came across a bag of Berkley Powerbait 5.5" Rib Snakes plum colored. Never seen them before and they were only 75 cents(originally $3.66) for the bag so I bought them. Was that a good deal? How would I rig and fish them? This is a pic of them.
  12. Even in the early daylight hours(around sunrise) when the bass are feeding on insects and whatnot on top of the water?
  13. Hello and welcome aboard! What have you been using in trying to catch the bass? I'm still new to bass fishing myself. The only thing I've gotten to work so far is either a Carolina rig 1/4oz weighted and Texas rigged worms weightless. All rigged weedless or Texposed as it's also known as.
  14. I went fishing yesterday. Only thing I caught was a goggle eye out of a falling tree right off the bank. In a different spot over by the boat ramp about 2 feet or so from the bank there was a big ole bass just lingering around a tire in about 2' or so of water. My friend and I tried everything we had and it would just kinda look at the bait and as if turning its nose up at it turned and swam away for a few and then right back to the same spot. Went on off and on throughout the day with different presentations and kept getting the same results. Needless to say we finally just gave up and went home. That thing had to have been about 3lbs or so. Just wished we could've caught it to confirm.
  15. Now that's what I call love! Not only was it the things we do to catch a bass, it was the things y'all did to help your wife boat the bass. Excellent teamwork. That's some extraordinary line as well. Amazing it didn't get nicked up or anything. Great job you two!
  16. Thank you. I'll have to try it out the next time I get to get out on the lake. When is the best time of day to throw a jig?
  17. I've tried my jigs a few times with and without trailers, no luck with them so far. Is it better to have a trailer instead of not having one? Was out in an aluminum paddle boat today. What a terrible experience that was. My friend was fishing too fast in my opinion and I was trying to fish a lot slower than him. My line would still be out there when he would start to paddle to a different spot. Very frustrating. He paid for the rental so I didn't really complain much. I wanted to try my jigs while in the boat but never really had a chance. So I guess I'm back on the bank's again for a while. So how would I fish a jig from the bank with little cover accessible from there?
  18. This is the kit I have. A Pearl Export Series 5 piece 12" and 13" rack Tom's 18" floor Tom 22" kick drum and a 13" Dixon piccolo snare. DW3000 double kick pedal, Zildjian and Sabian cymbals. This is the only pick I have right now from back in 2000 when the band I was with opened up for Godsmack at Malibu Alley in downtown Shreveport, Louisiana. I'm a metalhead...lol. Nowadays I would rather be fishing!
  19. Nice kit. I'm a drummer also. I've been playing for almost 33 years. Drums are what got me away from fishing at the age of 13. Now that I'm 45, be 46 in a few months, fishing has taken over my extra curricular activities. What kind of kit is that?
  20. Hello Tyler and welcome aboard!
  21. Hello and welcome back!
  22. Hello and welcome aboard!
  23. The only hollow body frog I have is a Booyah Pad Crasher in sunburn kind of a brown with a slight reddish tint. It has reddish spots and a chartreuse line down each side of the back and the bottom is a solid brown/reddish tint. Haven't had total success with it yet but have gotten the bites. Why I got it is it was affordable and the only color they had at the time I got it. Gonna check out some Academy H2O Express frogs tomorrow.
  24. I'm going to Academy tomorrow. Gonna have to check em out.
  25. I'm thinking the main reason the water temp is around 75 or so is because of the rain we've been getting lately. For the past month or so it seems to rain more days than not. Plus there's lots of boaters on most waters also. Other than that it's been pretty hot here in Pineville.
