  1. Also, if you are using a spinning reel, make sure the bale is open before trying to make a cast. I'm guilty...lol...unfortunately I've done that a few times. I get in too much of a hurry, sometimes, to get my lure back in the water and forget to open the bale. I've only lost one plastic worm so far, the line stayed at about a foot from my rod tip while the worm flew out about 30 yards.
  2. I agree with @Catt. Although I prefer a spinning rod and reel. I got a Lew's Carbon Speed Stick 6'6" medium/fast spinning rod at Academy for $70. The reel is a 6.2:1 gear ratio and the rod is a one piece. I love it and I can feel almost every bite I get. The subtle ones are still a little harder for me to detect, but I am still learning. Good luck finding the right one for you @Milos.
  3. Wow! That's alot of folks! Thank you Keri and Glenn for having such a killer place, for someone like me, to come and learn about bass fishing. I'm proud to be amongst all the fine people here. I consider y'all my fishing family.
  4. I would like to thank all the men and women of our armed forces, members on here or not, for their bravery and service to our great country. Any time I see a uniformed man or woman, when I'm out and about, I go out of my way to thank them.
  5. Hello and welcome aboard!
  6. Hello and welcome aboard HookInMouth! I'm a bank fisherman also and I agree, bank fishing is pretty hard. Especially around here where I live. Most of the lakes surely have good fishing in them, but they don't have really good accessible banks to fish from. It would be nice if the LDWF or whoever is responsible for any upkeep of the lakes to make the banks more accessible. It's almost like they're catering only to fisherman with boats or something. Not all fisherman can afford a boat or have access to one.
  7. Hello and welcome aboard JRez!
  8. Hello and welcome aboard Brandon!
  9. It's all good. I have a warped sense of humor with a bit of sarcasm myself. So it doesn't bother me at all. I'm glad you pointed out my type-o, otherwise it may have mind boggled alot of folks...lol. She was a tough cookie to get in by myself. A guy that was fishing near me offered me a hand getting her in. Paddlefish are endangered in most of the U.S.A., however there's a few states where they're are not and it's legal to catch and keep. Here in Louisiana you're allowed 2 per person no longer than 30" fork length and they have to be dead to transport them to keep you from trying to populate another area. If you ever get a chance, you gotta eat some. All white meat and no bones just a cartilage backbone. Very good eatin'!
  10. Lmbo! Oops type-o, must've hit the wrong key. A 6' rod. I totally deserved that bit of sarcasm. Lmbo! Thank you sir
  11. In my profile on here it states my PB as being 2-3lbs. That's just for bass purposes. Here's me with my all around PB. A 28" fork length 20lb. North American Paddlefish aka Spoonbill Catfish. It's not a catfish though. Believe it or not, I caught this a couple months or so ago at a dam known as Diversion Canal in La Salle Parish, Louisiana on my $20 Wal Mart 6' Matzuo medium spinning rod using 14lb. Trilene XT line using an 1/8oz crappie jig. Still can't believe it didn't break my rod, but I think it did damage the reel some. The handle sticks now when reeling in.
  12. I'm gonna look into possibly getting flouro. Just gotta find some I can afford. It seems to cost as much as or more than braid around here though. At least from what I've seen so far.
  13. Bet they would make a good drop shot or wacky rig also. Gonna have to try and find some and try em out. What's the length on them things?
  14. Those look pretty wiggly. What's the best way to fish them?
  15. The only time I use a leader is for a Carolina rig, other than that, I'm going straight braid from now on. I agree, I don't think bass are line shy either. The 2lb+ bass I caught last Saturday was on straight braid in pretty clear water. Not crystal clear but not very stained at all.
  16. Not really sure. I'm still new to the bass fishing and not even totally sure of the full purpose of a leader. I've heard of using one from braid to mono or flouro, from flouro to mono, from flouro to lighter flouro and even mono to lighter mono. The first bass I ever caught was on a Carolina rig going from 20lb mono to 20lb mono leader. So I just thought it can't hurt to try braid to braid leader. I could be wrong though. My problem with the stretch is, when tying on to the swivel for a Carolina rig, when I go to ensure a secure knot it stretches the main line leaving kind of a spiral in it. For some reason the knot doesn't get secure enough by just pulling the tag end. I have to pull the main line some otherwise the knot loosens.
  17. Shaky head is the only way I didn't fish them today. I didn't get any bites on them, for that matter, I didn't get any bites on anything except u tail Zoom worms. Those bites were just bream or something too small for even those little worms. I have to say, fishing has been rather frustrating this week for me. At least I got to go though. Guess you could say it was fun but not as fun as it would've been had I been catching some. I'll have to try the shaky head with them next time. Plus I got me some Gammy octopus hooks today so I can better rig a drop shot or wacky rig.
  18. Haven't seen any of those yet. Can you post a pic of one of them out of the package to get a better look at em?
  19. I went ahead and just respooled some new braid on late last night, because I went fishing this morning. I kept the line I took off because it's still good just not enough to fill a spool. If I try anymore leaders, it's either gonna be with some of the braid leftover from what I took off or try to afford some flourocarbon line. I'm about done with mono. It stretches too much for me to deal with for now.
  20. I know that feeling...lmbo! Actually it usually goes something like: Her: Where do you wanna go to eat? Me: I don't care, where do you wanna go? Her: I don't care. Me: Ok how about (insert any given name of a place)? Her: Well I don't wanna go there. Me: Ok why did you ask me then? Lmbo! ?
  21. I'll definitely have to look into that and see what my chances are of getting out to one or more of them. It would cool to see how some real bass pros do it. I did meet Mark Daniels Jr. A couple summers ago. He's a very nice guy. He's also an FLW and Team Rat-L-Trap pro. He came to my work to see how they were made and all. Gotta a pic of him with my girlfriend and me somewhere. I'll post it up when I find it.
  22. Hello and welcome aboard Dudley Dude! Hope you find some good spots and may the bite be good with you too!
  23. Nice fish! I would take one good quality bass over 10 or better tiny bass any day. Congrats man!
  24. They look like they should have pretty good action considering the many ribs they have and the flimsiness of them. Gonna try them tomorrow and let y'all know how they did. Hopefully at least one on them.
