  1. Along with the good answers above, you could still fish a dropshot. Just have your bait a little over 2' from your sinker below and use a cylindrical dropshot sinker. This will keep your bait just above the 2' growth on the bottom and the cylindrical dropshot sinker will work its way through that milfoil better than a teardrop or ball sinker. You could also use a diving crankbait that will dive 3' to 5' or even up to 10' or so depending on the depth where you're fishing. Those things are made to fish just above the grasslines and ripped out them when need be. Could make for some viscous reaction strikes. ?
  2. That's what I was kinda thinking myself. Thank you for confirming that for me. I'm also getting a little better with adding pressure, release, repeat and adding pressure shaking rod tip to get out of a tangled situation. I still don't have the confidence that I would like to have in the jigs, but I'm thinking/hoping that's gonna change with the new ones(at least one of them anyways) that I've got coming from @Siebert Outdoors. I do know one thing, though, I'm keeping a jig tied on until I get some confidence in it. ?
  3. Get some crappie jigs to fish for panfish and use the whole plastic worm for bass. Both of those presentations should be done without bobbers. Impart the action to each by twitching your rod tip and reeling in slack.
  4. Pulling in grass, weeds etc. would be the minimal problems I was referring to. I believe all types of jigs will bring that stuff in with them, but swim jigs and grass jigs bring in the very least amount. In my experiences anyways. ?
  5. Amen to that! Fortunately a good swim jig can come through it with minimal problems. For the water I'm fishing now, I don't really seem to have very productive colors in my swim jigs. The water is much clearer than I'm really equipped for jigwise. I ordered some Shot Callers yesterday from @Siebert Outdoors that I believe will change all that. Can't wait to get em in and give em a try. ?
  6. @JustJames true that, family comes first and there's always tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow(today actually...lol) I went back to the upper lake side of Caney Lakes again this afternoon for a couple hours. Nothing to brag about, but I didn't get skunked either. I caught this nonscorable bass on the same tequila sunrise lizard today not long before having to leave. I found out why tequila sunrise and plum colors are doing so well. I saw the first crawfish I've ever seen out there and it was practically the same color as those colors. Now I need to find some craw type baits in those colors. Hopefully somebody makes them. ?
  7. Rat-L-Trap always has the weight of the lure stamped or stickered on the insert card of the plastic case it comes in. I used to work there and every lure has that. As far as other brands, some do, most don't, when it comes to crankbaits and lures with treble hooks. Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and jigs always have a weight stamped on packaging. However, like @haggard said, I wish it was stamped on the lure itself as well. ?

  10. Got out for about 3 hours yesterday evening/night to Caney Lakes upper lake side. The lower lake side is closed until Memorial Day next year which really sucks, unless you have a boat. There's a boat launch on the other end of that side, but all the bank access is in the park area that's closed. Why? I don't know. Anyways, nothing was doing until about 8:45ishpm and finally got this nonscorable bass on my 1/4oz weighted tequila sunrise 6" Zoom lizard. Then 3 casts later caught another maybe scorable bass(didn't bother to weigh either of them) on the same lizard. My girlfriend wasn't feeling very well so we went on to the house. Wish we coulda stayed a little later, no telling what else I coulda caught, but her wellness is more important and at least I didn't get skunked. ?
  11. I use Strike King Rage Craws, Rage Bugs, Ochos and Rage Swimmers. Zoom Ol' Monsters, 6" lizards, trick worms and Z Craws. Roboworms and Yum Dingers. Colors are green pumpkin, green pumpkin magic, black/blue flake, watermelon red flake, junebug, junebug red, morning dawn, tequila sunrise and my new favorites plum, plum crazy or plum apple. I've recently discovered that the lake I've been fishing mostly(Caney Lakes lower and upper sides) that tequila sunrise and varying plum colors have been hotter than any other color I've throw. Really clearing my tackle bag out of alot of colors and plastic styles that just don't get it done, on Caney Lakes anyways. I do have them set aside to try again if or when these colors stop producing though. ?
  12. Grabbed a pack of plum Ol' Monsters, a pack of junebug Rage Bugs and a pack of black blue flake Rage Craws today before I left work. Also making an order to @Siebert Outdoors by this Saturday at the latest. Can't wait to make my order and get them in. ?

  16. Can't ask for a better outing than that! You were 100% on cast and catch and a hawg to boot! Well done! ?
  17. Nice bag limit there! They all look like they're starting to feed up for the winter. ?

  21. Had my best outing of the year this evening. Got off work at 4pm, came home and ate supper, rested a few minutes and headed to Caney Lakes around 6:30pm. Went to the lower lake side first because they close that side down at 8pm. Second cast was a skip under the pier I was on(I only fished from the pier this time) and a 2lb 2oz bass chomped my Texas rigged weightless 7.5" plum crazy Culprit worm. 3 or 4 casts later I skipped a 1/4oz weighted Texas rigged tequila sunrise Zoom 6" lizard to the same spot and a 1lb 5oz bass slammed it. From the excitement of catching 2 that quick I forgot to take that one's pic...lol...I did weigh it though. About 10 casts later, switching back and forth between those 2 presentations, a 1lb 8oz bass hit the lizard. 2 for the lizard 1 for the worm. By then it was almost closing time for the lower lake side, so I packed up and headed to the upper lake side. Second cast to some matted grass from the boat dock(I only fished from the dock here as well) with the same Culprit worm, I felt a strike, set the hook and somehow missed. So I started retrieving it fast to cast back to that same spot quickly. Didn't get the chance. On that retrieve, a 2lb 1oz bass slammed it as it was scootin' across the surface on its way back to me. I was like Wow! this is awesome, 4 bass at around 7lbs or so total weight. Unfortunately the bite on those 2 baits stopped happening. I tried my 110 Whopper Plopper and my 1/4oz chartreuse perch Booyah spinnerbait and nothing happening. So I changed out the 110 for my new 1.5 KVD natural bream shallow runner square bill crankbait. First cast the pictured nonscorable bass hit it and was stuck good with all the hooks(glad I changed the stock hooks out for some Mustads I got when I worked at Rat-L-Trap), he wasn't coming off. By then it was almost 9pm and after swapping back and forth between the lizard, worm and 1.5 nothing was doing again, so it was time to come on home and get some R and R. Gotta lotta overtime coming up starting Monday 5am. Inventory time is here. Yay!...Not!...Lol! Had a great evening of bass fishing though! 2 for the lizard, 2 for the worm and 1 for the 1.5! Life is good! ?
  22. The last few days I picked up a 1/4oz chartreuse perch Booyah spinnerbait, a pack of tequila sunrise and a pack of green pumpkin magic 6" Zoom lizards and a natural bream Strike King KVD 1.5 shallow runner(3') square bill crankbait. Been working alot lately and still gotta lot more hours to do. We got inventory coming up. Yay! Not! Lol! Hoping to get out for a couple hours or so this evening to try these new baits out. ?
  23. Throw all 3 each time you go out. Chances are, if you give each one adequate time, you'll catch on all 3. No matter what time of year it is. Just remember in super hot and super cold water fish them slow. If you think you're fishing them slow enough, slow down some more. Temps in the warm and luke warm range you can fish them faster, just don't fish them too fast. You want them to look as natural as possible to the fish. ?
  24. Howdy and welcome to our fishing family! ?
