  1. I've been using Sufix 832 advanced superline featuring Gore performance fibers. 8 braided fibers 32 weaves per inch. I use 40lb same diameter as 10lb mono. It's some pretty tough and abrasion resistant braid. Casts really well on my Lew's spinning gear and cuts through weeds and grass pretty good too. Still have Power Pro Spectra on my other two spinning rods but will eventually change it to the Sufix 832.
  2. 2 things trees and tree branches under water that can't be seen. I fish from the bank only right now, so my lure usually ends up in a tree at some point. Fortunately I've been able to get it out the majority of the time fairly easily. Other times not so much. As for the tree branches that can't be seen under water, here lately it never fails. I'll be fan casting an area and make my cast out towards the middle and I always find that tree branch. Doesn't matter what part of the pond I'm fishing if it's out there my lure finds it. Lots of times I'm able to get my lure back with some serious effort. Occasionally I do lose one though. Those branches have also cost me a few bass. Oh well guess that's just part of bass fishing some times...lol.
  3. That's the evil afoot in this world working when people are really needy and the suppliers being greedy. I've been thinking about you too @Catt seeing the radar earlier and it looked like y'all were getting lots and lots of rain. The system was just hovering over y'all it seemed. Hope all is well with you and yours.

  5. I don't use baitcasters. Only spinning rods and reels. My favorite of the three I own is a 6'6" MF Lew's Carbon SS Speed Stick IM7 with a Lew's SG300 reel 6.2:1 gear ratio or 32" per turn. I just love it! ?
  6. I know what you mean. Texas rigs do seem to get the job done when nothing else will. Don't give up on the chatterbaits and spinnerbait though, it'll happen for you. It did for me. One day I hope to have caught a bass with every bait/lure I have. Don't have any swimbaits. Guess I should get some and see how I can do with them. Nice catch by the way!
  7. Lmbo! I didn't know Alabama was bordered with our east side. What happened to Mississippi? Lmbo! ??
  8. I've been saying prayers for everyone in Harvey's path and will continue to do so. God be with them all!
  9. Right on. Thank God for the 2nd Amendment!
  10. @A-Jay I'm gonna have to check into some of those too as I have very similar problems fishing from the banks around here. Some of the lakes and ponds have plenty of clear bank to fish from, but not necessarily in the best bass holding spots. Grass and bushes are way too tall and thick in most if not all the prime areas for bass. Hope waders and a belt aren't too pricey for me right now.
  11. Glad the Cajun Navy are all safe. It's a shame the things some people will do in this world nowadays. May God be with all those in real need of help.
  12. Howdy, welcome aboard and thank you for your service! ?

  14. I caught my first LMB on a C-rig. Oddly enough I haven't really used a C-rig much since then. Guess it's because I've been learning different techniques and just haven't thought about it much lately. Could be why I haven't really caught a big un yet. Think I'll rig up one of my rods with a C-rig next time I go fishing and see what will happen. I haven't been fishing very slow lately, not really fast either just somewhere in between but probably more towards the faster side. Might do me some good to slow it down a bit more with a C-rig. At my limit for the day...lol. ?? Gonna have to catch a bass with a jig and a crank bait/deep crank soon.
  15. Have you checked with your school to see if they have a club you could join? Around here some schools offer a bass fishing club. Not sure if they do that country wide or not. Might be worth checking into. I'll be 46 in November and I've only been bass fishing since late March of this year. I've been looking for a local bass club to join and found one that at least the President and Vice President are here local in Pineville. I was checking out their tournament schedule and probably the furthest place I would have to travel to would be Toledo Bend Texas side something Bridge Landing, can't remember the full name, was the location there. I was checking out the rules and in order to be a member it looked like however much the dues are had to be paid before the first tournament in February of this year. However there is a possibility I could do one tournament as a guest. I wouldn't be awarded any points like members, but I believe since I would have to contribute to the side pot(total weight $25) and also maybe the big bass pot($5) that I would have a chance to win some money. Not completely sure though. I sent them an email asking about requirements for joining the club and also being a guest. May be tomorrow before I hear back from them since I just sent it about an hour ago. The next and final tournament of this year is not far from my house at all. It's at Saline/Larto Lake in Deville, Louisiana about 20 mins from me. Hope I can meet requirements for being a guest. I think it would be pretty awesome to participate in it and win or lose it would be a great learning experience plus would let me see first hand if joining a bass club now is something I could handle and afford. Hope you find something that's right for you. Good luck!
  16. Howdy and welcome aboard! One of the ponds I fish by my house has a kinda greenish look to it. It's a murky greenish look. Junebug, junebug red and red bug colors have worked well for me here in central Louisiana. Maybe they'll work for you up there in NY. If it's a clearer green look where you are you may want to try more natural colors like a green pumpkin or watermelon. Haven't tried red shad or black shad, I guess because I don't have any that color...lol. I do have some Zoom u-tail worms in tequila sunrise. I'll have to try them next time I'm at the greenish looking pond by my house.
  17. Yeah it's been kinda like that here too. Tuesday may be a different story though. According to my Accuweather app Tuesday is when we'll have tropical storms. Glad y'all are safe down there.
  18. Gonna have to buy me some white spinnerbaits, chatter baits, Buzz baits and jigs to see if they work well for me too. I have some of the dollar spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, but they're cheap and it's kinda noticeable. The band for the skirting isn't very tight and the skirts keep trying to come off. Plus I don't think the action is as good.
  19. Right on. Is white colors as good in murky water as black and blue and other dark colors?
  20. I tried out my new and only chatter bait I've ever owned yesterday while at the Red River. Didn't do anything. So, since I've never owned one before, I watched a video on how to fish one. I felt really stupid when I saw how to tie one on. I assumed you tie it on just like a regular jig through the eye of the jig head. Boy was I wrong...lol! Anyways I tied it on the right way today and tied my new spinnerbait on to my other rod I don't use much anymore. Went to the smaller pond by my house. Took my tackle bag with me just in case. It was lightly raining almost the whole time I was there(about 2 hours). I would cast the spinnerbait and work an area. Then do the same with the chatter bait. Nothing was really doing except for one that got off the hook of my chatter bait. I was kinda disappointed but didn't let it get me down. I got it in my mind afterwards that I was gonna catch me a bass on that chatter bait before I went home. Sure enough, just about 30 mins later this little fella finally broke it in. Again it's not much to brag about only that it's my first chatter bait bass. I was using the tail end of an Ol' Monster junebug red worm for a trailer. The worm had already given me several bass in the past and wasn't riggable anymore. So a short piece of the body and some of the tail that had been partially bitten off. I took my knife and cut it back into a point so it looked more like a tail again. May have to try a longer piece next time to see if it's more effective. Made my day though. I was fishing it like a spinnerbait, just reeling it in a little slower. Now it's raining again and really wanna go back out in it and fish some more. Don't think my girlfriend would like that too much, specially considering I've done alot of fishing the past week or so...lol. Guess I can wait a day or so to go back. Really anxious for the fall to get here. Maybe then I can catch me a big un. I'm slowly but surely learning how to use more baits/lures thanks to this site and all you great folks on here. I may not necessarily fish them like everyone else does but so far it's working for me. Thanks everyone for all the great advice and knowledge. I'm actually becoming a better bass fisherman! ?
  21. What is a C-drop shot rig? I've never heard of it, of course I am still fairly new to bass fishing. Never thought of putting a trailer on my spinnerbaits. Gonna have to try that! ?
  22. How are y'all holding up down there? Been keeping you and everyone in Harvey's path in my prayers.
  23. Howdy and welcome aboard!
  24. Hopefully you heard wrong about New Orleans. I haven't heard anything like that but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. If they aren't prepared then it's down right stupidity and it means they didn't learn anything from Katrina. Praying that's not the case though.
  25. I almost bought some of those Storm swimbaits today, same ones you have pictured. Chose to buy my first chatter bait instead. Gonna try it out tomorrow.
