  1. yeah, I guess with side scan I would have to pull the pod out when going out and coming in... could be an expensive mistake. How breakable are the transducers?
  2. Been looking at different GPS/DS/SI units for my Kayak. Its a ATAK 120 and has the pod so the transducer can be mounted underneath the boat. Any strong opinions on what I need or don't need? Would like to spend less than $1000. What works for ya'll? Mods- please move if this isn't the appropriate forum, couldn't decide which was best.
  3. Just starting to look into getting a boat and am obviously overwhelmed. I am thinking about a 17-20 ft alum would be ideal. I will use only for bass fishing, but would also like to be able to go striper fishing as well. Would likely only use on larger reservoirs in my area like Lake Hartwell, Keowee, ect. looking to spend less than 17,000 to 15,000. I would like to go the craigslist route but not knowing what to look for i'm afraid I would get a POS. Any and all advise would help for this process. I'm sure there are more threads on this topic but after scrolling a couple pages in I couldn't find one, so I am sorry if this is repetitive info. Thanks!
  4. Just curious as to how to keep fish alive and healthy while still getting pictures and weight ect...
  5. Caught this girl yesterday, breaking my PB. I'd say its prob 4 or 5 lbs, but of course I didn't have my scale. My buddy hadn't shown up yet, so this is the best picture I could get.
  6. I need to try some of those lakes. I went to Croft state park and that was okay, pretty little lake. I did see they were building that ramp. It like 5 minutes from my house so that is super convenient. I do feel bad for Browns tackle, but paying 3 dollars to launch 2 or 3 times a week adds up. lol
  7. Awesome, great insight. You are from the area then? I moved to Duncan/Spartanburg a couple years ago from Clemson. Any other places I should be kayak fishing? Thanks!
  8. This is prob the area I have fished the most just because I love throwing the frog. I've had a few blow ups, but no fish landed yet. I did catch a decent fish with a wacky rigged senko in a shaded area in that bay... Will try and slow down and work these areas again next time.
  9. So this is a lake I have tried taking the kayak to a few times. So far I haven't had much luck. It difficult to locate fish not having a depth finder on the kayak yet. the river feeds in from the top middle and its less than a foot deep at the mouth due to silt/dirt build up. There is also a lot of vegetation up top right into that little finger and leading up to the little road bridge. The dam is in the bottom right that would lead back into the river. Along the bottom and left there are a few lay downs and two small docks. Not sure how deep it gets in the middle. It has rained a lot lately so water clarity has been bad. People I have talked to said the fishing can be hit or miss but some guys have caught some 5+ lbers... What can I do to improve my trips. I'm going to try and paddle up the river farther as well. Thanks for any help, ya'll are aweomse.
  10. What should I spend my money on? TIA
  11. yeah, I might try it to see if it helps but then move back up to a more "correct" application. and I agree about leverage and short strikes. Ill work on feeling him take it and getting that good set and let ya'll know if I have any more luck.
  12. I will try this, I didn't consider a smaller hook would be easier to penetrate, so thank you! Hooks have been new, cant recall the brand but I assume they are sticky. I think part of the problem is from the kayak I have been keeping my rod tip down and at an angle (6-oclockish) and when I go to set I'm not sure where I've been going with it. lol Will try and focus more on reeling down when the line is slack. If the line feels tight when they bite is it still important to reel in before you set the hook? Thanks!
  13. This could def be a factor. I just put 30lb braid on my spinning reel yesterday with 12lb flouro leader but only got one bite...and missed it. I've been using braid on my frog, so i'm thinking I've been doing something wrong there.
  14. 5" Senko. I've fished it weightless and weighted.
  15. Just started fishing from a kayak last week, and I am having trouble landing fish after they bite. I'm talking I've missed about 10 in the past 2 days. Mainly on a Texas rig, 4 0 wide gap hook, with a Medium 6'6" spinning set up. Not sure if the lighter rod is the problem, if I'm not letting them take the hook, or if the leverage is off since I'm used to standing on the bank. Also been missing a lot on top water hollow body frog. I'm using a 7' 3" heavy casting set up. Why do I suck?
  16. I haven't seen any, but a guy I work with said there are! I'll keep trying to find em'
  17. Just recently got back into bass fishing. Used to go with my grandpa a good bit as a kid, but fell out of it. Lately I have been obsessed! My father in law has a house on Lake Hartwell so I've been going out there a lot. Also been wading the Tyger river and fishing a buddies farm pond. It's hard to find places close enough during the week which can be frustrating, but maybe getting online and learning will tide me over. Hope everyone is doing well and have a good 4th!
