  1. I’m sure there are a ton of the lake’s quirks to learn from both of you. In reality, I will probably only ever make it out there a couple times a year. It’s a good halfway for my dad and I to fish together. Both of us have hectic schedules, so the chances of those stars aligning are slim. I was really surprised at how few boats were on the lake for a holiday weekend. The campsites were full but there were only 6 trailers at the boat ramp when we started and even fewer when we left. At least 2 of those were catfishing. The water temp was 90 north of the main boat ramp and 84-85 toward the dam.
  2. I agree that the Dobyns 705CB feels like a rod that is really limited in its capabilities beyond squarebills. It is a pretty whippy rod and I have never tied any other bait but a squarebill or wakebait with it. BUT MAN IT IS SUCH A FANTASTIC ROD FOR THAT APPLICATION! another less expensive rod that can cover multiple applications is the 7’ Cabela’s ZX Crankshaft. I have one and use it for pretty much all small to mid-sized moving baits (squarebill, chatterbait, spinnerbait, etc...).
  3. Would love to meet you out there sometime.
  4. La Cygne was tough today. Caught 6 fish biggest was 15”. 3 on a ledge with a jig in about 12-15’ feet of water by the bank southeast of the dam. 1 on a weedline on the Mideast bank. 1 on a deep crank on long underwater point in about 12’ of water. Watched a guy catch a nice one on a squarebill on rip-rap. Fished lots of rip rap with soft plastics and cranks and didn’t get a whiff. Talked to some guys at the ramp that said they ran up the creek and caught some nice ones... but that’s just Dock talk so who knows.
  5. Because I don’t want 8 different rods with a jig tied on out on the deck. Its mostly a matter of convenience. In my experience, most of the difference in jig styles is how they come through cover. For example, my favorite dock skipping jig doesn’t come through brush worth a darn. However, if I am at a lake fishing mostly docks and I come to a brushpile I am gonna toss that jig at it knowing there’s a higher chance I will snag than if I changed to an arkie style jig.
  6. Never had a problem with yellow braid. Catch rates are the same for me on several lakes, I have tried it several times fishing next to someone using a leader or green braid and we have always caught very similar numbers and quality of fish.
  7. You need both. Flat sides for rip-rap and brush and jerk baits for points, channel swings, ledges and humps.
  8. In the last 25 days I have been catching lots of 7-9 lbers including my PB of 9 lbs 8 ounces. All of them were caught and released. My streak of catching all of these heavy ones however ended yesterday. I have been on my Ob/Gyn rotation and catching lots of babies! Due to the long long work hours of the rotation its been 25 days since I’ve wet a line, but after my exam today I picked up a little reward for myself and stopped by the lake by my house to try it out and break the streak. Low and behold I caught my first rat fish!
  9. Thanks! Planning on going primarily to scope it out, so we can have a better lay of the land when its "on".
  10. Thanks! Any other intel on La Cygne? Is it a clear, muddy or stained lake? Are there offshore brush/rockpiles worth searching for?
  11. Yes. Patience or pick up a used one thats bigger for the same price as the 5"
  12. 100% report him. It is your duty. You did your diligence to discuss it with him and he failed to be responsible. Moreover, he is perpetuating his irresponsibility by doing it with his kid. Your son is absolutely right, if he is breaking the law, why not call the police. Although children's minds are often simple, they are often also unbiased.
  13. These guys aren't everyone else. I would guess they catch a lot more and a lot bigger fish, and all at once (the whole field out at once for 7 days), thus affecting a larger population of a different category of fish... Somewhat like a miniature pandemic virus that is most deadly in the brightest and strongest. Now whether or not it has any real impact on the population, I don't know... It may even be good for the population to thin it out just a bit. The numbers and quality on the St. Lawrence certainly don't seem to be decreasing.
  14. eBay one time use code for 20% off.... JUSTRELAX Scroll toward the bottom of this page to find the list of sellers... I wish I would have waited a couple days to order a KastKing Speed Demon Pro.. https://www.ebay.com/rpp/66160?_trkparms=%26clkid%3D6369310271767745562
  15. My rods don't fit in the back of my truck and I was tired of moving them from the passenger seat when my wife and I would take our dogs to the park. So, I built this tube for about $80. Can fit 8 baitcasters with some strategy involved.
  16. The only thing I cannot stand about 6th Sense is that they have had trouble keeping up with their inventory. For example, the Flat 75X in my favorite color, Wild Lava Craw, has been on backorder since at least February and keeps getting pushed back. I suppose thats really an artifact of a company that has really grown fast and is somewhat out of their control though.
  17. 6th Sense Flat 75x in Wild Lava Craw.
  18. Started browsing Japan Tackle. What can of worms have I opened!?!? Does anyone have any resources on tips/tricks on replacing the handle knobs? Kind of seems like the just click together, but I don’t want to go wrenching on it and break anything.
  19. Gonna try to head to La Cygne over Labor Day weekend. Anyone have any suggestions or structure/cover maps to share?
  20. What about fluoro with a braid leader? It’s different and something the bass don’t usually see, so it’ll have to work.
  21. I have no idea about what parts cosmetic or performance cost, so I have no reference as far as parts are concerned as to what is cheap vs. expensive.
  22. Definitely not wanting a Ferrari out of Tat SV. I would probably wait to start with a Steez or SV103 to do that. Mostly just looking to make it match my all silver Tatula Elite rod a little better and maybe get a little more casting distance out of it for fishing deep structure.
  23. I doubt that the relationship is linear. Probably exponential, probably by at least a factor of 2.
