  1. In general, these 90's - early 2000's Rangers are certainly a worthy investment at the right price. Look for a 488VS, 185VS or possibly R91/R93. Just do your homework on what to look for when assessing a used boat. For your price range you can find an excellent Ranger.
  2. you can also go on ebay and find the cheapest nasal speculum. It works for a much wider variety of sizes as well.
  3. All you bait makers are so needy (jk) I’ll see what I can do.
  4. Those look awesome
  5. After further inspection. I'm nearly certain its 1/4 oz head. The hook afterall does NOT appear to be a round bend. Here is a video:
  6. Nice rig! Whats the storage length on the trailer for that thing?
  7. Nice fish and congrats on your new PB! It can be difficult to tell the weight of fish from pictures. Looks like a solid 4 - 4.5 lb fish.
  8. Nice one! This one compared to the one I showed does indeed give the impression that it’s a round bend hook. I’ll get some more pictures tomorrow. Thanks for all of your help guys. I’m learning a lot about these hair jigs.
  9. Honestly guys, it doesn’t have to be an exact copy. Although, if you are enjoying the challenge of figuring it out I won’t take that from you.
  10. Maybe this will help.
  11. I will get a pic of the jig next to a tape measure.
  12. Gotcha. Looks like you have some purchase for a regular piano hinge to sit/attach to. If you plan on using rivets I strongly suggest using stainless and NOT aluminum. Alternatively, use nuts and bolts. I suggest against screws. Are you lookin for the specific hinge pictured or just a piano hinge in general?
  13. Greatlakesskipper.com has a variety of them. what are you trying to accomplish?
  14. If you were wrong, it’d still be a good jig. :))
  15. With few to no other boats on the lake, leaving and then coming back is my first instinct. That being said, on some bodies of water that I fish very consistently, I have been dwelling in a spot I know there are fish and exploring different presentations (fishing out a little deeper/faster vs slower) in the same spot. Mostly I have been doing this for anticipation of times when the lake would be full of other boats or fishing in a tournament, so I can maybe put a few more fish in the boat. As far as tournament fishing is concerned, I stick pretty closely to “don’t leave fish to find fish.”
  16. It was a custom built jig given to him second hand from someone else. I’ve handled it only briefly and it really felt like a 3/16 jig. Although, I could certainly be wrong and the hair + hook size could have been throwing me off. I agree it is not a light wire hook.
  17. At least 6. if it’s not worth the time to only make 6 then tell me the minimum number you need to make to make it worth your time. Let me know. Thanks!
  18. My wife insisted that I share these pictures she made me take with everyone I know... I guess I'll play along. She's pretty proud of me. Couldn't have done it without her.

  21. It’s official! Now have two more letters to add after my name.
  22. Sorry for the lack of detail guys. An older fishing mentor of mine asked if I knew anyone that could replicate his favorite “finesse hair jig” . I personally know diddly about hair jigs but here is my best guess of the specs after handling the jig: The head is 3/16th ounce - this is probably the only specification of the jig in which I have high confidence. The material, I am not sure - if someone were to make it from craft fur, it would be sufficient. The main color not a solid brown, more of probably the olive or green pumpkin as mentioned previously. The hook size is not super important, anything reasonable will do.
  23. Ready, go! Will happily pay a premium for quality replicates.
  24. I have a '96 Ranger R70. I can probably have my trailer modified or get a different trailer that might make it fit.
  25. Well I made a mistake with this house. The garage is only 20' deep (my boat on trailer needs 20' 8" w/ motor down and turned). When we looked at it we thought there was plenty of room to either add a 3rd garage space or build a detached garage in the backyard. Turns out there is a Sewer Drain Easement that prevents that, that was not in the Seller's Disclosure. We can't build a bump out from the garage into the house because there are stairs parallel behind it, and we can't extend the garage forward because it is already as close to the street as zoning allows. We have run out of time to find a different house and my wife likes the rest of this house too much to let it go. So much for dreams of building a shop/work area. Not 100% what I am going to do with the boat right now, first thought is to get a different trailer that makes the storage length compatible with the garage. I'm not leaving the boat outside and my wife's car is too nice and I am not leaving it outside either. If I can fit the boat in the garage, a large storage shed in the backyard without a drive approach might be the best I can do. If I can't keep the boat on site, I'm not really too excited about trying to keep it - storing it off-site sort of tips the scales for me. Who really needs a workshop (let alone a boat) when they are anticipating consistently working 80-100 hr weeks anyway? A little bummed.
