  1. basically this is what I’m trying to figure out. If this is true, sounds like Antares is the way to go. I don’t mind spending if it means an improvement.
  2. I’m looking for a new jerkbait and light crankbait reel and have been thinking about trialing a DC reel. Has anyone trialed all three of the above and can attest to the differences / quality between the Curado, metanium and Antares DC reels? Are the differences incremental? Or is there a huge jump between each of them? For reference, I am currently running a non-DC Curado 70, which I like but am just hoping to really cut down on the number of spool runs in windy conditions with light baits.
  3. In addition to the habitat of the new lake effect, maybe the role of population has to be considered. This seems especially true in small water bodies that are managed to produce big fish where culling is absolutely imperative to producing big fish. I wonder if there is something about the bass behavior independent of forage availability that changes when more fish are present leading to slower growth rates.
  4. the few lakes that I know have them they don’t seem to be doing their job with the Shad… need to add some more wipers I suppose
  5. Pricing scheme doesn’t seem too bad at all and very comparable to similar level units. now the helix units are going darn cheap.
  6. Can you give some specific examples of spoons?
  7. Want to try my hand at wipers and white bass. Other than small (2-3”) swimbaits, what are some go to baits?
  8. @Russ E was a frequent poster in the KC area forums up until the end of December 2022 when he started having health issues. I met him in person a couple times around the KC area and he was always willing to share how his day was going. He passed earlier this month on October 4th, 2024. Rest in peace.
  9. The Ranger R70 is a good option. You would have to retrofit the motor. The trailer can be easily modded to fit 19’8” with the motor up.
  10. Chat GPT got pretty darn close! Kinda neat. The actual weight was 8.04 lbs.
  11. This usually has to do with state sales tax and crossing state lines. YOU still owe the sales tax even if the store doesn’t charge it.
  12. Going to be in Miami for a conference 9/28-9/30 looking to get out. any guide recs?
  13. Humminbird has not historically launched new products at ICast. There is definitely something new coming and it’s not what you think.
  14. Time to trade it in while it still has high trade in value.
  15. personally, I’ve had limited consistent success with a jig, and a jig was my preferred bait prior to moving to the Kansas City area. i’ve caught a few here and there, but really nothing consistent, dragging brush or rock piles.
  16. Fished only “new to me water” 4 outings last week. My streak of relatively lackluster fishing continues. Caught a total of 7 bass for the whole week. I did manage to catch one decent one at Smithville.
  17. Ive yet to have a skunk but I can't even catch numbers. Been 1-2 fish per outing for me. I have been trying new water.
  18. Is it just me or has the fishing been tougher "round these parts" the last 2 years. I thought I was just off last year and not as focused, but this year is proving equally tough.
  19. Okoboji is super hot right now. Tournament yesterday took almost 32 lbs to win and last year pretty much every tournament all year long took 25-28 lbs to win green valley 12-mile 3-mile viking anita lake of 3 fires blue lake (the south end lily pads used to be phenomenal) find the rock or brush piles and fish them with a jig or the grass lines with a chatterbait and you will have fun
  20. that’s a good little lake and somehow still produces despite and enormous amount of pressure.
  21. I think fisherman have a wide angle lens in their eyes. That explains the origin of big fish stories.
  22. I cannot stand sunscreen, but I have a real fear of skin cancer. i try cover as much of my skin as possible.
  23. For treats, we find that the most effective and somewhat healthy treat is cooked, cubed and then frozen chicken breast. Per pound it is actually rather cheap and my dog(s) will do anything for it. Low end milk bones end up being about $1-1.50 per pound and chicken breast about $2-$2.50 per pound. High-end store bought treats get easily get into the $10’s of dollars per pound. One of my dogs used to love the stem of head of lettuce. He would take it and throw it up in the air and pounce on it like he was taking down a small rodent. It was extremely consistent and hilarious. I miss that boy. The whole cat food thing is fine if you’re using it as treats. As long as it’s not the PRIMARY source of nutrition it is absolutely fine to give dogs cat food.
  24. The poppers look nice. No joints.
  25. The most budget friendly mixed with best image/user friendly system would be to get the Garmin 106SV with. GT54 transducer on sale for $999 paired with the LVS34/GLS10 transducer for $1699. There are some other options, but IMO that is the best bang for the buck by a long shot.
