  1. You know, I had started with pink, but I hadn't thought of it again once I thought about the decals. Maybe a pink rod and a few decals wouldn't be terrible. I am not sure I can find a pink rod before 5ft, but maybe that isn't as critical as I think.... Also, I misspoke, I wanted to get her a spin-caster. Not as good of quality, and 5ft 6in, but for the price for a combo, it seems worth the risk to get it and a couple of decals I think: https://www.amazon.com/Zebco-Spin-Cast-Combo-Tackle-10/dp/B003LZHJAA Thanks for the reminder on the pink reel. If someone thinks of something else I am missing, I am all ears (particularly for decorating the reel without just throwing some of her stickers on (which might be fine if I replace them each season).
  2. My 6 1/2 year old daughter has one of those cheapo princess rods that every kid starts out with. It is pretty bad, and I think she is ready for something a little bigger. Looking around, I see that an ultra light 4ft 6in UglyStik GX2 exists, so I was thinking of picking up up for her. The problem is, anytime I broach the topic of a new rod, she talks about wanting it to look princess-y or mermaids. I found some rod decals that have mermaids (and surprisingly have clothes on) here: https://customrodcomponents.com/decals-stickers/specialty-decals.html?decal_type=2766 Those seem reasonable enough (I have never done anything with decals before). But the I was looking at a zebco spinning reel and they are ugly, plain, and black. Is there some way to spice up the reel? I just can't find anything out there for that. Any other suggestions are appreciated as well!
  3. Well, took the daughter out SAT to that pond. It is well maintained, but only 3 spots to fish from. She ended up catching a box turtle (that was a first for me), an 8in small mouth, and a big sunfish. All in all a nice morning, but kind of a dead pond I think (mostly because I was skunked ). Her bass
  4. That Bentz Pond looks pretty neat, thanks for the heads up. If the weather can hold, I think I am going to try to take her SAT morning down to Warfields Pond Park. Not sure if it is any good, but it is close (we are travelling later in the day), and it has a small playground if the fish aren't biting :).
  5. Hey Chatterface. Nice, wave as your go by next time :). I like it out there, but my commute down to College Park is getting to be a bit tough sometimes. That seems like a nice place. A little further out than I would like (just to keep her interested out there, fish, and way back), but it might be the best bet (at least for nice quiet places).
  6. Howdy. I am semi-new to the area (New Market) and on the hunt for some small calm place to take my 5 yo daughter. She has some anxiety issues, so I am hesitant to take her popular places. Is there somewhere in the new market/mt airy/FRE vicinity that has a small pond with bluegills (that is good enough to keep her attention a bit)? Something simple with a dock or cut grass would be great. Just thought I would check. Happy fishing!
