  1. Agree! Isn't that why we fish in the first place?
  2. Personally, I would go: 1. 7' H Casting (1/4-1oz rating) 2. 7' MH Casting (1/4-3/4oz rating) 3. 7' MH Moderate (I own this exact E6X rod). 4. 7' Med Lt Spin - This would be a good drop shot rod for #5 as well. You can get technique specific but these would be a good start if I only had 4-5 rods to use. I've owned several GL2, E6X and IMX generations of the MBR rods. They are great all around rods.
  3. If you fish the same lakes for the same fish at the same times of year, then yes you would have a more limited tackle selection. If you fish different lakes across the country at different times of year for fish in all phases of life and growth, do you think the same bait will work all the time? Rhetorical but you get my point. The same could be said for rods, reels, etc. etc..
  4. The Alpha Angler Slasher (6'-10", Med Pwr, Fast Action) is a great rod for what you describe. I own two of them, throw walking baits on 30 lb Sunline SX1 Braid with 25 lb Sunline Armilo leader. Split grip, makes a great jerkbait rod as well. Good luck!
  5. I think it also makes a difference if you're fishing cover or open water. In open water I use a pretty large bait for the drawing power. Up close or fishing cover, a smaller bait works well.
  6. Me too on both ha! Armilo is the single best topwater line on the planet. I use braid now but I still use 25lb Armilo for a leader.
  7. I start big, no matter what time of year. Then go smaller if I'm not getting the bites or fish are swiping at the bait.
  8. Dirty Jigs are the best but $5 a pop depending on the jig. Nichols is a close second for me, they make great jigs, spinnerbaits, etc for the dollar.
  9. Absolutely. If you're fishing vegetation, I'd switch to braid. Perfect application for that MH rod, but I use flouro and braid both situation depending. I don't care to use a Heavy power, fast action rod with any moving bait. Doesn't allow them to suck it in for a good hookset. Unless maybe a G Loomis Heavy (1/4-1oz), they run light for their action. Typically any spinnerbait rod makes a good swimjig rod.
  10. Green mirror is a brown lens. You don't see green at all through them. They're a great 90% lens, good for all but super dark days or super bright days. Blue mirror is a gray lens. Best for super bright, bluebird sky type of days.
  11. Straight braid or braid to mono leader depending on bait/technique.
  12. I use both 7'1" and 7'3" MH power, mod-fast to fast action rods depending on cover, casting distance, etc. Typically a 7:1 gear ratio.. sometimes they pick it up like a spinnerbait and swim toward you and you need to reel slack quick!
  13. This. I use an E6X 7'4" Heavy Swimbait rod (Heavy power, moderate action) for a WP 1110/130, 5" Osprey Swimbaits and smaller A rigs. Perfect rod, I love it.
  14. Not wild about Sniper FC for that same reason, had too much memory. I prefer Seaguar Invizx in larger line sizes.
  15. Don't know anything about line carriers or aircraft carriers but Sunline FX2 and SX1 work just great for me. ?
  16. Falcon HD. Blown away with the rod you get for $70.
  17. Horny Toad or 3.8" swimbait. Rarely use the skirt.
  18. Gotcha, yea I saw that as well. The 7' M would definitely be the best all around topwater rod IMO, and many prefer a 6'8" - 6'9" jerkbait rod so I think the Slasher was designed to bridge the gap between the two.
  19. I have two slashers, they are great rods. I throw ito 110s in the winter and topwaters up to a 1oz super spook in the summer. Great rod across the board.
  20. I would get a 7' Medium power, fast action rod. Long enough to pitch around and short enough to still skip docks. Personally, I like the Abu Villain 2.0 although they are since discontinued you may be able to find a deal on one.
  21. I have two 6'10" Medium AA Slasher rods that I throw up to a 1oz topwater with no issues. BMP throws that big arashi 130 (1 oz +/-?) on it as well. He seems to catch fish..
  22. Abrazx if strength is most important. Invizx for lowest memory. Been using both for years, no issues for me.
  23. Zodias is more sensitive for sure. They're both good rods but I wouldn't use an E6X for any bottom contact application. If you got spinning/braid setup then it doesn't matter though.
  24. Agree with others, you'll lose fish on a heavy power rod on treble hook baits. I used a 7' MH for years but now I use a 6'10" or 7' medium action with 30 lb SX1 braid and a 25 lb Sunline Armilo leader. Can throw a popper up to a 1 oz super spook.
  25. I use an Abu Garcia Villain 2.0 6'10" ML fast action. 12 lb SX1 braid to 8 lb Sniper FC Leader. Works well for ned and shakey head in the 1/8 - 3/16 oz range. If you want more for a 1/4 oz shakey head or wacky setup, then go to a 7' medium rod.
