  1. It's a 1996 Fifteen Foot Fiberglass Jon Boat and came with trailer for $250. As somebody who mainly fishes from the bank or stream it's very exciting. But before we take it out on the water i have to make sure it's all legal and fallow the rules and regulations. I don't want to get into trouble. Makes sense no?, Right so i'm now looking for some input on where i go from here and where i can take it and use it around me as i'm totally new to this boat owner stuff. I did plan on getting some kind of motor like a trolling motor for it but wasn't sure if it's powerful enough to get us around. I really don't want to have to use telescopic paddles unless i have to.
  2. I do pretty well with some kind of senko and frogs for my bass fishing. Senkos in colors of Watermelon,Green Pumpkin,June Bug. You really can't go wrong with those colors.
  3. As somebody who grew up using just eagle claw hooks starting out i think are just as good as any others on the market. I think they're well worth the money and you get a bunch of them perfect for new anglers starting out. This brings me to my next point, My sister caught her first rainbow trout and fish on a bait hook made by Eagle Claw. Jump to today and we have all kinds of hook made by owner, mustad, eagle claw, gamakatsu. For my trout needs, I use a Owner Mosquito Hooks in size 10/8 after my local tackle shop recommend me to use them. I've been having good luck with them and love using them. As for my sister she is happy using eagle claw hooks for just about everything go figure.
  4. I happen to have a few 1$ spinner baits people gave me but yet to catch anything on them! The fish around here would rather eat something like a senko or a frog lol
  5. We were lucky enough to have our own above ground pool in the back yard. I was made to wear this swimming vest all the time that zippered in the front and let me tell you I HATED THAT THING. Being so little and made to wear something that felt big and bulky did not please me one bit. I gave my mom such a hard time and used to hide it and when it was found she'd put the thing on backwards just so i couldn't get it off. Long story short, We came to an agreement if i could swim from the pool stairs to the middle of the pool and back i didn't need to wear the vest. I can still swim to this day but i'm no mile swimmer! Edit: In middle or high school i ended up joining the swim club and we used to swim in doors in a heated pool and not only was i fast at doing laps but also figured out i could hold my breath longer than others.
  6. In North Jersey, I was told if you didn't have a trout stamp then you must. Catch & Release, Return the fish to the water unharmed and if you did that you were fine. However, In my local lake and stream they are stocked with rainbows so it makes sense to get a trout stamp. In your case, I would contact the right people and ask them and see what they say. Honestly i think it's worth paying for the stamp and it gives you peace of mind. My stamp cost about 10-11$ here.
  7. A warm welcome from new jersey!
  8. Welcome, Enjoy your stay!
  9. After being told to use a scale and not having one i decided it was time to get one. I ended up going with this one below, It can hold up to 99 pounds but i don't think i'll catch anything that big and if i do then we've got bigger problems than the scale lol. Regardless, I can say it's pretty good for my needs and pretty accurate as we used it for luggage. When my mom went on her trip she told them how much it weighed and we were spot on/close enough. I have used this scale before for setting drag on a few reels but personally i like to lock my drag down on my setups.
  10. Hey there buddy!
  11. @NorcalBassin: That's my kind of fish right there. The rainbow trouts are such nice looking fish.
  12. I would suggest looking for deep pockets/holes where fish are wait for food. Because you have dirty water it's hard to tell where they but ideally you'd want something that moves water and bright colors. /Chatter/Spinner/Jerk/Crank/etc. Pretty much use all kinds of lures till you figure out what works. I most use rooster tails, phoebe for rainbow trouts in my river.
  13. I'm really glad everything went well for you on your trip and you managed to pull in some fish along the way. You went to a spot you never been to before and still managed to get fish, Awesome! I love seeing you use that chatter bait and catching them on it. You are the reason i decided to pick one up and use it. Not a single fish caught on this lure, But one day that all changed. I headed to my lake on this overcast, windy and stormy kind of day. I would cast over and over and nothing, But right before the storm picked up and got worse i hooked into a three pound bass and i quickly took a picture and released it and packed up and headed home before the storm really picked up. Perhaps i shouldn't of been out there, But i still managed to get at least one on it and that's enough to make me want to keep using it and get it in other colors. So to that, I thank you.
  14. @everythingthatswims: That's how it's done, Good job my man.
  15. From somebody that only uses them all the time i'll put in my two cents. We do use them and only them. Anything from the catch more fish line up to ugly stik/etc. We have rods in 4'6 to 6' in UL/L/M all spooled up and setup based on fish. With that being said, Only three people fish in my house and that's myself, sister and other sister. From my point of view, It makes much more sense to buy these cheaper combos instead. A example: If each combo is 50$ per person i would be spending 150$ in total and that's not including the line/hooks/lures/bait/sinkers/etc. B example: If each combo is 100$ per person i would be spending 300$ in total and that's not including the line/hooks/lures/bait/sinkers/etc. All things you NEED in order to catch fish. Bottom line: It would be nice to use/fish with these 100$-200$ combos but not everyone can afford to drop this amount of money just rods and reels alone.
  16. Here's just a few. This was my first rainbow trout. "Yes, I'm aware i'm not holding my rod right." My sisters first rainbow trout, You can see how happy it made her to catch one as well. My other sister's first time catching her first fish. Here's one of my sister catching her first large mouth. Sister trying to get a rainbow trout. And now what others would like to see.
  17. Took my bait caster out and headed out into the rain and over cast. Finally i have landed and caught a almost three pound bass on my white chatter bait and strike king rage swimmer swimbait as a trailer. I was also told by Extreme Philly Fishing people open chatter baits in the store and steal the trailer that come with it and most people don't even know they do come with it "I didn't know and i didn't have one in mine so i guess someone stole mine in walmart" Regardless it felt good to catch at least one on it.
  18. Hmm, It would seem things are currently pretty tough right now. I would said it's because it's much colder out, rained a bunch, water level has went up and current is much faster. However, I could be wrong about all of these and almost all my spots seem dead or show no sign of fish at all. We couldn't get a single bite no matter what we used, I did however finally get a few but not fish i wanted. We even went to catch bass and we did get a bunch of taps we just couldn't manage to hook into one, The closest i got was a bass swimming towards me with my senko in his mouth, I was very excited and then as he got closer to me on shore he dropped the hook and senko yeah she wasn't even hooked. This was when i remembered our rods we had with us were spooled up with four pound test for rainbow trout. Pretty much just not that great of a day but we did manage to catch a few small fish and even found three new lures for our tackle box so there is that.

    Hello

    Welcome!
  20. You mean for storage?, Like in plano boxes. Yes, Your idea works and all but there was a time when i put a few wet lures in those boxes and came home forgot about them and they were rusty the next time i went fishing. I learned my lesson to not be forgetful and to drill small holes into them and opening them to allow drying. However, I don't like carrying like 4-5 boxes with me in my back pack as it's big and bulky and fear my stuff will rust again even after allowing it to dry out. With everything in a zip lock bag and put in my back pack it's just more easy and convenient to grab and go and doesn't take up as much space you know.
  21. That's a great question, Hopefully this is some what helpful. #1.Pick a location and know what kind of fish happen to be there and what spots i'll be fishing from. #2.Pick a fish i'd like to target, It could be bass, rainbow trouts, panfish, all of them. #3.I will then pick and choose lures to bring with me based on what has worked, location and fish and water depth. I really wouldn't want to bring a crank bait that is big and can go a depth of 20-30 feet and use it in shallow water. However, I will still pack and bring lures i have never used before or caught anything on but only a few of them. #4.After all that, I then pack the lures accordingly. Each lure gets packed into their own small zip lock bag. After that is all done, all of them get put into their own category bag=Crankbaits,Frogs,Spinners,Power bait, etc. In this case, they are packed into one gallon zip lock bags. Plastics get this treatment, Kept in their original bags and put into a large one gallon zip lock bag. If any plastics are not in a bag when i get them i put those into small zip lock bags and put those into the large zip lock bag. #5. I put all the one gallon bags into my backpack and i'm off the fish! When i get home, I will take the lures out of the bags and hang them up to dry and air out. Not plastics though. Edit: My tools go in the very front of my backpack for easy access. I do have a pet but she is not tall enough or big enough to get her mouth on those and most times my door is shut so she's alright
  22. I don't think my idea or way of sorting things is really all that interesting but my sister really wanted me to show you all so here we go. Please don't mind the red light in the picture as that is my heat lamp light for my leopard gecko tank. I will take my lure and anything with a hook and hang them on small tacs. By doing this i believe it helps with drying and keeping my stuff nice and organized some what. Also, I have all my hooks on a safely pin and this goes for all hook sizes. I'd like to hear what you all think of it.
  23. Welcome, I'm glad you found a new love for fishing
  24. About time! I was successful at catching and keeping a few rainbows after what seems like weeks of throwing my whole tackle box at them! "not literally but hopefully you get the point" I used a size 10 Owner Mosquito Hook "Used these before, Awesome hooks.", Four pound fluorocarbon and a Berkley trout worm in bubble gum. I used a spit shot rig with a single spit shot about 12 inches from the hook and that was all it took. The other three rainbows were a bit wiser and wanted nothing to do with my pink worms/powerbait. I pulled out a crank bait and spinners and it was enough for the other three to want to bite. Now i would of liked to put the others on here and show them off but stupid me forgot to take a picture of them first and was more worried about getting the next one/etc. However, Perhaps next time though. Finally got my fall rainbow feels good <3
  25. I have gotten hooks into my hands/other places it shouldn't go but they have never went pass the barb. Making removing quite easy, However the same cannot be said for my sister. We were in a fishing contest "We never enter one before so what a rush!" trust me we were not ready but we still managed and give it our all. The rules were simple: Catch the biggest rainbow trout by 12 pm. We came in third place, we got a m spinning combo/goodies and even got a 25$ deposit from a local fishing tackle shop we all agreed to use for a net. TLDR: My one sister ended up getting a single hook with a barb stuck inside her thumb on a bridge by the lake. My other sister was standing next to her and pulled it out of her and all i hear is my sister with the hook in her thumb scream like someone was hurting her. I was no where near them and was fishing in another spot on the lake. We now carry rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizer and a first aid kit in my backpack.
