  1. I prefer topwater for the sheer excitement and jigging. But my top producers have been either drop shotting senkos or roboworms.
  2. Got a vid of hooking and landing the 3.24lber He hit my jig pretty hard, especially after a few pops of my rod
  3. Congrats and way to go!
  4. I spent a good 8 hours at El Capitan Reservoir today and was rewarded with around 10 or 11 bass total. About 8 of em were off the Dirty Jig and Sweet Beaver combo. I fished the 3/8oz pitching jig in The Go To color with a Dirty Wizard colored Sweet Beaver and nailed em today. They were eating up these trailers. I think I'll start keep some smallie beavers as well. Can't believe how great of a day I had. These were all caught after 12pm, some were right after another.
  5. Most of my fish this year has been caught drop shotting a Senko but wacky rigged and Roboworms. Sometimes I'll texas rig or nose hook the Roboworm but it's always in a dropshot configuration. I try to use other techniques and baits but dropshot consistently catches me fish.
  6. Ah man ya most of the SD lakes are closed to fishing on Thurs. So weird with their schedule. I was able to switch my day off to Wednesday last week just so I could visit Barrett for the first time.
  7. Awesome job. I love DVL. Only been once but it was great. I only wish they were open on Mondays, my only day off.
  8. Haha 8 hrs is my usual average. Those pics I just posted from my first Barrett Lake trip, I was there at 4:30am and left the water at 7ish pm. We did take about a 1.5hr break in the car in the AC during 2-330pm to escape the heat. That was the most tiring day of all. I always bring an ice chest full of ice, water and coconut water and constantly set reminders on my phone to drink water no matter what. I only have one day off a week from work so I maximize my day off by doing what I love to do most, fish for bass!!
  9. First time using a hollow body frog and was rewarded with my first bass! Sorry for the camera noises. I was using a Yi Action Camera and noticed the sound wasn't too great. Caught my 2nd off the Live Target frog. Was advised to use the smallest Live Target hollow body frog from a very wise local. Caught two off the Yamamoto D Shad but just got a pic of one em. Switched to a Sexy Dawg Jr and used it to find an active feeding school of bass My friend and I started throwing these "spook" type lures and got the active school to bite. I think we caught around 7 or 8 off between us off this school. Fun times!
  10. Congrats man! Nice fish there man. Keep casting and experimenting
  11. I personally use fluorocarbon line as just my preference. I live in Southern California where a lot of our lakes are highly pressured with clear water so I tend to use more finesse techniques like dropshot so I always have a fluro leader tied to my braid. I only tend to use mono as a leader when I'm tossing some topwater but you can go ahead and try to fish without a leader or with the mono leader, either way you'll still catch fish if you fish the senko in the right areas and fish it slow and subtle. Good luck!
  12. Texas rigged weightless is probably the better way to go with a Gamakatsu EWG 3/0 hook. Senkos weightless falling action is really unique and the bullet weight will make it fall down too fast without the unique fluttering/wiggling action. I always use a fluorocarbon leader of around 6 ft, Seaguar Invizx, anywhere from 8lbs to 14lbs, depending on the type of cover I'm fishing. Yum Dingers should work but I personally prefer Senkos. The unique falling action the senko possesses is quite amazing, especially wacky rigged. I've caught my personal best of 5.97lbs off a wacky rigged senko but I was drop shotting it around 25ft, slowly tugging it along the bottom. I would get hung up in the treelines and gently shake it off and get hit hard right after breaking free of the structure. I told my friend to do the same and he landed his pb of 3.97lbs the same day. Just a few days ago I tossed a weightless texas rigged senko parallel to some tulles and instantly got nailed by this 3.84lber If you look beyond the fish, I tossed my senko directly in front of those tulles and slightly jerked and paused the senko only twice and then I got a huge bite.
  13. 3.84lb chunk I got this morning. Texas rigged Senko to the rescue.
  14. San Vicente has been hit pretty hard since it re-opened so it's been a hit or miss more so these days. There have been a lot of tournaments there so they fish are a bit more skittish. Lower Otay is doing well actually at the moment but is only open Wed, Sat & Sun. I know of a local guy who has been killing it on the frogs fishing tules at Lower Otay. Dixon and Wohlford are tough little lakes. Dixon is super clear with about 30 ft visibility with big bass in there but they're skittish. I caught a bunch of dinks at Dixon a few weeks ago. Wohlford is a bit bigger but with very very bad visibility. I caught only 3 fish after being there for 8hrs but did manage a 5lber at Wohlford. El Capitan is a nice big lake with very low visibility as well and when I was there a few weeks ago, the water level was down a lot. Managed 5 bass a couple of weeks ago after a whole day of fishing but nothing really big, just some 2lbers and 1lbers. If you want and have the time, I'd say make out it to Diamond Valley Lake which is an hour away from where you'll be staying. It's doing amazing right now. A 12lber and 11lber were caught a few weeks ago. They're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays but have half off all types of boat rentals on Wednesdays. I caught my PB of 5.97lbs there last month. Most of my fish have been caught drop shotting Senkos and Roboworms. California bass tend to be a bit more skittish so finesse baits usually work best. I've caught a few off flukes, jigs and spinnerbaits. The bass are chasing shad right now and there is some top water action going on as well.
  15. The CPS stays intact. I only got three fish off the fluke that day and it was my first time fluke fishing but it seemed to hold up very well.
  16. I tried this for the first time a few weeks ago and caught several bass. The action is incredible. Just like the banjo minnow. hehe. I used a CPS ring to increase the lifespan of the fluke.
  17. Tough day at Wohlford Lake. Almost got skunked but landed a nice little guy here: Then a few hours after that one I was about to give up but went to drop shotting a Roboworm and caught this 5lber!
  18. Nicely done! I hear amazing things about Northern California bass fishing. Hopefully one day I'll get to experience it,
  19. Puddingstone gets a lot of fishing pressure as most of LA County lakes will get. I used to fish Puddingstone quite often and usually just ended up with 2 fish maybe 3 after spending all day there. Usually just on senkos. There is also Legg Lake that I hear a lot of people try to fish too. I got tired of Puddingstone and started making my way to Perris, DVL, and Castaic all with better results. DVL has half off boat rentals on Wednesdays. You should reserve one if you plan to go because they rent out quick! I've now moved to North County San Diego and am enjoying exploring the SD lakes with decent success.
  20. Can't sell those unfortunately. The 4runner is my primary vehicle I own. The Ford and Lexus lx470 are my parents that I borrow when I need to since they live very close by.
  21. Thanks for the opinions but yea the Skeeter looks to be gone.
  22. Caught this guy today first time using a zoom superfluke http://i.imgur.com/HrfHDlL.jpg I decided to try to rig it banjo minnow. Caught a few more like this. Also caught my first bass off a jig today! http://i.imgur.com/GoHl4P5.jpg Not very big but I checked two things off my list of new lures to catch bass with!
  23. Hey guys, I've been looking at used bass boats for sale on craigslist near me and noticed a lot of older bass boats within my budget of 8k-9k. I'm not sure if I want to go cheaper and just get an aluminum boat or get an older fiberglass boat. I live in Southern California and go to many different lakes, a lot of our bass lakes are pretty big so it would be nice to have a bigger outboard to get across the lakes. I won't be doing any tournament fishing for now but maybe eventually. As far as hauling goes, I have a 2010 Ford f150 ecoboost truck and a 2001 Lexus LX470 v8 that can tow the boat. I also have a 1998 4runner v6 that can tow an aluminum bass boat if I decide to just get that. Near me I've found a lot of used bass boats like these: 1995 Bass Tracker $5400, 40HP Mercury 2 Stroke https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/boa/6134962345.html 1995 Nitro 180TF $6500, 115 Mercury 2-Stroke Engine https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/boa/6147113629.html 1988 Tournament Bass Tracker 1800TF $5k. Mercury 115 outboard with electric trim https://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/boa/6160760719.html 1991 Stratos 201 Pro Fish & Ski $7k, Evinrude XP 200 outboard https://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/boa/6160222841.html 1992 Champion 17'5" $8.75k, 2004 Evinrude E-Tec 115 HP https://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/boa/6145592186.html 1998 Javelin 498DC 20' $9.5k, Johnson Venom 225 https://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/boa/6161656838.html 2001 Skeeter SX180 $9.3k, Yamaha 115 4 Stroke Motor https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/boa/6151162343.html 1994 Stratos 16' Johson 150HP outboard $6.5k https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/boa/6152239782.html 1996 Champion 21ft 225 Evinrude outboard $6k https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/boa/6136582681.html Sorry for the long list, there are just so many options and I'm a newb when it comes to boats. What are you guys opinions about these boats? I know there's not too much but a general idea from you guys would help greatly. Thanks!
  24. I just tried this out yesterday for the first time and out of 6 fish only lost 1 senko. Didn't miss a hook set. Great way to save senkos.
  25. Congrats, and welcome back to bass fishing. I took a 15year hiatus as well and recently got back into it a month ago and was told to wacky rig Senkos right off the bat. That's pretty much my go to bait and it has been very rewarding. Senkos can be fished so many different ways as well and are quite versatile. Best of luck out there.
