  1. I used to absolutely hate crankbaits. The places I fished had too much weeds and algae. I've since learned to really let the lure pause and float up so it stays in the top 1/3 of the water column. I haven't found it necessary to deflect it off cover to get bites like the pros tell you.
  2. Caught this chunky guy on a jointed shad rap up shallow. When I went to unhook him, I saw the biggest tail I've ever seen in a fish's throat! The saugeye was 20 inches and the shad was 8 inches long WITHOUT it's head. Could've pushed 9-10 inches total.
  3. I haven't found ANYTHING that keeps skeeters away when they're swarming. But it works well when the buffalo gnats get bad in the spring.
  4. Depends on the bugs. No bugs - no buff but a wide-brimmed hat. Bugs - buff and a ball cap. Fingerless gloves are on either way.
  5. Weightless fluke, gets a reaction out of them even if they don't want to eat
  6. Could be too much slack line out and too short of rod (problems I've had float fishing with UL setup). I hammered the bluegill this weekend with a 1/32 oz white beetle spin. Caught fish on 9 consecutive casts in a row out one point, tons of fun on the UL.
  7. Strike king lightning shad
  8. Just put an order in this evening. Email said it would ship on the 15th... It takes 10 days before they can ship three little items??
  9. It freezes up here all the time. Duckweed still comes back.
  10. It's pretty ugly but it works. Just used what I had on hand. The fish finder I can remove easy and use it ice fishing, or leave it off and use the dash as a rod/lure holder.
  11. Love my F10. If you duck hunt, their blind is decent but a little pricey. For fishing, a small sonar unit is a big benefit.
  12. Red eye shad and underspin
  13. 16 pound carp on UL rod, 6 lb mono, and Aberdeen hook out of a kayak. 30 minute fight with a lot of drag pulled and it dragged me at total of 200 yards.
  14. I wade creeks all the time for a variety of species. I usually only take one pole and it's either a light spinning setup or my 5wt fly rod depending on what I'm targeting. I've got a waist pack that works really well to hold enough options for an outing. I actually went this afternoon and packed a handful of ned rigs, zman crawz, a fluke, beetle spin, small jerkbait, small hair jig and extra hooks. For clothing in the summer, it's a long sleeve fishing shirt, pants that zip off into shorts, wide brimmed hat, wading socks, and cushioned flip flips. In the winter it's insulated waders and enough other clothes to keep me warm.
  15. Gave this to my dad for Father's Day and he loved it. Our hunting buddy passed away last year and this speck was from our last great goose hunt with him. My father and him were friends from grade school and we've waterfowl hunted with him for my entire life. Those are his calls hanging and an old picture from one of our first goose hunts. Just thought I'd share to maybe inspire others to do something similar! Also, this was the only time we've shot a specklebelly since I started hunting 14+ years, and we limited out on 'em!
  16. 1/32 oz beetlespin. White
  17. Zoom Fluke in pearl
  18. Depends on the water I'm fishing and the mood I'm in. Yesterday I caught a dozen <1.5 pound lm and sm while wading a creek and had a blast. On the flip side, Friday night and Saturday morning I fished a small lake that has numerous 5+ pounders and was disappointed with the 2 pounders I caught.
  19. A few of the "other species" that I caught this weekend. All came from the river but the crappie. The stripers bit on jig/grubs and crankbaits (biggest was 6.5 lbs). Caught two catfish on a spinnerbait which was a first (Had a 15-20 lb channel cat on a ned rig but wrapped me up in a submerged tree and got off). Crappie came from the ned. And finally, my new pb for a pike by far, caught on a micro chatterbait with a ned bug trailer. He was 30.5 inches!
  20. Tried force-feeding the bass a plastic frog yesterday but they wouldn't eat it. Turned out to be a ned rig kinda day and I eventually gave in. Caught 2 crappie, 3 bass, a green sunfish, and a channel cat in a couple hours. First bass pictured is ~2 pounds and the second is pushing 5.
  21. Only got one to bite on the river but it was a good one. 5 pounds even
  22. Booyah poppin pad crashers in bullfrog.
  23. Thanks for the confirmation guys
  24. Took the Nucanoe out to do some panfishing. I was using my 5' ultralight, 6 lb test, and a small Aberdeen hook with a chunk of worm. Saw this guy tailing in the shallows so I instinctively dropped the bait in front of him. That was a mistake! He ended up dragging me around for 35 minutes and gave my drag a workout. Weighed 16 pounds. My arm wasn't long enough to get a full picture of him!
