  1. Congrats! Now work on a 1 year fund to cover all your expenses and then pursue your dreams!
  2. A tool for each situation, so yes mono or co-polymer should play a part just as much as braid or flouro.
  3. You may be able to sandblast that down.......
  4. Agreed, not good to truly flip without the TWS engaged, recipe with disaster especially with fluorocarbon and pinch at edge of line guide. OFF TOPIC However, most people even seasoned bass fishermen say they are flipping when they are actually pitching. Very rarely do I see anyone flip anymore, since they engage spool and do "mini-pitches" However, when you ask the latest winner of a FLW or BFL tournament down here (hint,hint......) they say they were "flipping". So yes I they are different techniques, but when it comes to "dock talk" when someone says they flipped all day or were on a flipping bite it doesn't necessarily mean they were using a flipping technique, they were most likely pitching most of the time with the occasional flip here and there.
  5. Actually that's its intended purpose of TWS.
  6. Trust me I know being from Florida, some people do funky antics when flipping. Most people are pitching and calling it flipping most of the time anyway, it seems the term is interchangeable now.
  7. Also look at iRods for bang for buck punching setup! Bub Tosh model is what I use, its light and easy to handle all day long. For frogs I like my Tatula.
  8. Good to know! Is it the TWS system coming off the spool that causes issue? Hands down best reel in the price range under $200 IMO
  9. Is it still a desert fishing wise? Hopefully they all trickle into system as levels drop!
  10. Want to cast a country mile, have a moderate action for the trebles and be able to use up to 2 oz monster cranks, then look no further than the St Croix Legend Extreme LXC711HMF LOVE THAT ROD, thanks Dwight! I also have a crucial crankbait series which I like and would choose that as a bang for buck rod, I think they make a hvy action also for heavier baits.
  11. Bassthumb, its has not been my experience for the Kigan guides speced on the Dobyn's rods. However, I don't sleeve any of my rods, I did for a bit, but it was more of a pain with trebles more often than not. Nevertheless, in my boat's rod locker I have other rod brands (St. Croix, Daiwa, Shimano, Loomis, Star, All Star, etc.) that haven't had issues with popping rings off guides. To Dobyn's credit they have always sent replacement guides at no charge, but I choose to forgo the guides and replaced with Fuji at my local rod shop. However, from the pic below, I can say that I do like the blank and balance of the Dobyn's Champion and Extreme series and still own them, regardless of guide issues ! I would also not be hesitant to buy the new Extreme HP Series HP with Fuji speced guides. However, I would still pick a NRX and GLX over the Extreme and Champion based on my experience to date over the Dobyn's as bt8897 did after forum input. Not bashing just telling what my experience has been and hopefully helping other members out in their decisions.
  12. http://www.sheboyganyachtclub.com/assets/docs/SAS_Cold_Water_Immersion_Chart.pdf Something to consider when fishing solo in cold water! Swamp lizards don't seem to be such a big deal anymore!
  13. Anyone fish the retention ponds in Palm Beach International Airport?
  14. Lake Ida Jerk Baits Peacock in S FLA Gators that follow you
  15. Just saw this thread, man I gotta say all those custom reels look great regardless of the manufacturer of the handles! Also like how KP Duty's casino winnings went to a noble cause!
  16. Sun, Sep 18 is the only game I care about and I am glad Wonder Boy will be sitting the bench, since the Phins need all the help they can get!
  17. I have the many Dobyns Champions, and Extremes and they are good rods, but I am really disappointed with guide rings popping out, which I believe they have since changed guides, on the Extremes at least. I also have many custom Loomis blanks from years ago, GLXs, GL2, IMXs, etc. and have yet to pop guide rings off....and yes I have broken a few blanks for both rods. So from experience I would go G. Loomis NRX or GLX over the Dobyns Extreme in general.
  18. Chances of catching a 10lber is most dependent on the body of water you are fishing. So in theory, I would assume for your best chance you would want to be in California, Florida, Southern Georgia, and Texas . If you expand it to the entire World, you up your chances, by visiting Mexico, Cuba, S. Africa, and Japan.
  19. Yes, I am genetically predisposed to be a "hunter- gatherer" that likes using modern equipment to pursue my game, but can't depend on the acquisition of game to provide for my family , so I satisfy that primitive craving to fish or hunt when I can....at least that's what I tell my wife! From a human anthropological point of view it can get a bit complicated, but to put it simply "it takes all kinds." However, without successful hunters eons ago, we would not be here today. So yes I think many of us have that innate drive to be fishermen, hunters, farmers, etc. Now match that with mental fortitude, physical ability, ambition, opportunity, and some luck and you have Bassmaster and FLW Pros who succeed year after year.....isn't modern living great?
  20. Clear water is your friend for spotting'em! Fast and erratic retrieves work best for blind casting lures (jerk bait, spinner-baits, rattle traps) I like purple hued lures with my favorite being a Rapala Shadow Rap or Scatter Rap, make sure you change trebles out for at least 2x hooks they bend them pretty bad . You can always cheat and use live bait (shiners, shad) and post pics to Instagram with monster peas. Most canals south of Lake Worth have them, just cover water, you can start to see some bedding now! Where are you coming down to?
  21. Sounds like you are going to have a great time! What type of food are you looking for, also where are you staying in Clewiston? Who are your guides?
  22. Just get the Tatula Type R from Ebay for $120 in your desired gear ratio, don't look back. If you budget is $300 that leaves you some money left over to get a nice rod. I have at least tried or even owned the others mentioned. By the way I have the Zillion TWS and I would not be able to justify what its "superior" when it comes to casting, smoothness and drag, but if you want to give another $50 to Daiwa that's your choice. You'll wonder why you paid some much more for the Rockets, unless that 37" per turn was super critical. It's not even a bang for buck issue! If you don't like the Type R I will buy it from you at a slight discount ($15 off)! Just make sure you keep original box and it cost you $15 to try it out.
  23. Dual Pro, by Pro Charging Systems, get at least the Sportsman Series or above. Avoid Pro Mariner, had it on my brother in laws boat and my Bullet from factory, absolute junk., although they did replace both chargers under warranty with new units!
  24. Shimano EXSENCE DC bang for buck DC champion, ask Dwight!
