  1. So my local little jon boat lake I fished at regularly is now closed off to non-residents of the lake ?. I am super disappointed, the next closest lakes are about an hour away but I have the James river in downtown lynchburg about 20 minutes away! I usually avoid the river because I have no real understanding of how to fish it but now I dont have much of a choice. I will be taking my lil 12 ft jon boat (trolling motor powered) to the james river and was hoping someone could help me out where to start. What types of things should I be doing differently, what should I look for, ect. I fished it a few times in the past from a kayak and basically just cast at laydowns and any eddy I could see. In the summer I had (some) success casting a texas rigged senko down a grass line I found. I know Ill get the hang of it eventually, but would love if someone could help cut down the learning curve. Thanks
  2. Took the Yak on the james (Lynchburg) today in search of some smallies but I dont know what Im doing. Im much better on a lake. I caught one wacky rigged shallow but it was like 8 inches. a few other small bites and that was it. I tried finding some rocks acting as current breaks and casting behind them with the wacky rig and a T rig with no luck. I threw around every eddy and current break I could find with pretty much no luck. Any tips on figuring out the river?
  3. Thanks for the input, im itching to get back out there, but dont wanna waste my time!
  4. My wife just had our daughter about 10 days ago so my fishing days are extremely limited this year. Im wondering if i should bother trying to get out saturday or just save up the brownie points and cash em in on a different day. Heres the weather outlook... what do you think?
  5. I know I had a reel spooled with invizx but when I get a new reel my budget for line goes down haha its a hard knock life I suppose Thanks for the info, the stretch is what i want to avoid, Ill find a different fluoro
  6. yikes no replies, I guess Ill have to steer clear.
  7. they just started selling it in my local shop. Seems like a great bargain but most of the reviews Ive seen said its better for treble hook applications than worm/ jigs. I'm wondering why its not considered as good for texas rigs and jigs. I currently use Pline fluoroclear and havent had any issues. Thoughts?
  8. Interested in lefties if still available.. Im a huge lews fan.
  9. What a nightmare...one of my rods fell out of my boat somehow on 460, spent a long time looking but never found it...worst day. Anyway if anyone finds a lefty Lews LFS on a hellbent rod in a red sleeve, I would really appreciate it...
  10. Heading out to briery in the am, for the first time. Anyone have any advice on finding the ledges without electronics? Im assuming there deep, I plan on putting in at the 701 ramp and fish my way up north. thinking carlolina rig, texas rig, dropshot if it gets tough? whatre your thoughts?
  11. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Also Ive started realizing less is more (at least for my trailer) smaller motions are often enough. And dont be afraid to pull up and straighten out if you start to get wonky, it is WAY faster then try to correct which usually puts you all sorts of out of position. just my .02
  12. Just thought Id give this an update, I went ahead and traded my AR for a 12 ft jon boat, trailer, and trolling motor. I have already used the little boat more times than I ever shot the gun. Very satisfied with my choice, also the price of my gun new dropped to 400 so I came out pretty good.
  13. +1 for crimping down the barb on the wacky hooks, it's just an easy bait for them to swallow, I dont how much it would have helped if he swallowed it up to the eye (i picture it could have helped, at least make it easier to pass). I caught a fish with a entire jig head coming out of it, whoever caught it had crimped down the barb and I was able to pull it out easy, Im sure that fish is still swimming now.
  14. Hey I found a reel on CL for sale but cant find any info on it at all anywhere. Anyone know anything about the Quantum LSR-101? here is the link to the CL ad https://richmond.craigslist.org/spo/6121882899.html
  15. So I've been getting one of my buddies into bass fishing this year and we've been going out a lot but with limited success. I let him use one of my kayaks and a bunch of my tackle to help get him going. Well we finally hit a homerun this sunday and had a chance to just wear the bass out on one of my local lakes. As we were paddling to a new spot across the lake I look up and realize he is cutting in front of me and I am about to slam right into him. So I dig my paddle hard into the water to turn me and stop and capsize almost immediately. Somehow in the scramble I get out (sit in kayak), get my phone out off my pocket (its waterproof but still) secure my sunglasses (Costas) grab the paddle my tacklebag (thankfully a backpack so I could put it over my shoulder) and one of my rod/reels in my mouth. Im borderline panicking trying to swim with all this crap in my mouth and get to shore, dump it and go back to the sinking kayak. I was able to get that back to shore too (barley) after a tough swim. In the catastrophe I ended up loosing my scale, ruler, net and one rod/reel combo (my t-rig, jig set up ). Spent few hours casting and trying to dive around where I fell but had zero luck. Oh well Im glad I made it to shore safe with as much as I did, but the wife already told me she will not be allowing me to replace my lost gear anytime soon Makes this weekends upcoming tourny much more difficult. Anyway, I was just sharing to allow yall to laugh at my misfortune, or learn something- wear your pfd-
