I used the "v" cut out as well when I first started too. Suggestion though- don't make a "v" cut. Make the cut more rounded at the bottom so the rod turns easier. Make the cut more "u" shaped.
Size "A" thread might be too thin for your first time. I would practice with thicker thread until you get used to wrapping. If you're going to do a blacked out rod then the heavier thread won't be noticeable.
Man, I was going to head out there but couldn't find anyone to go. I fell asleep about 2:30 and just now saw your post. I hope you whacked'em good. Killer evening.
You don't need a wrapping machine for just one rod. Use your fingers to spin the rod while you wrap with the other hand. Or, buy a used sewing machine motor and build your own turner. I built my own and wrapped dozens of rods with it.
The wife and I had an awesome dinner tonight followed by this kick ars desert. Blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and vanilla ice cream atop rich, melted chocolate (no, it wasn't Hersey's syrup) and sprinkled with powdered sugar.
I went out to Lake Osborne yesterday and today (Tues, Wed.) speck fishing. We caught a couple dozen speck and 6 bass using minnows. Osborne was it's typical self, difficult. I've never had such a hard time catching speck :. Anyway, the weather was absolutely gorgeous and there were ZERO skiers.
Here are a few examples for you to use.

I agree.
Anyway, you could talk about all the past politicians/elected officials who were charged with corruption. I'm sure you could find some local ones in EVERY state. You could also find plenty of senators, governors, presidents and many more.
What was the winning weight? I was going to fish but had a work obligation.
I fished sunday. Bite came on later in the day.
I didn't stay for the weigh in, but out of 11 boats I know 3 of us quit early. We usually have 18-23 boats. I didn't get out Sunday but it couldn't have been any worse than Saturday.
I'm going back to Osborne in the mornong for some Speck.
