  1. Absolutely agree and it was probably a apple to orange comparison now that I look back on it. However, I fish highly pressured Ponds so it's all about natural looking presentations and matching profiles to get any love
  2. Personally, I am more of a firm believer that matching the hatch catches bigger fish. If the pigs are eating 8" stocked trout, then throw your large swimbaits. In AZ, you do this in the winter and fall when they are only stocked in those seasons. Spring and Summer, If the pigs are eating 2" Threadfin Shad throw your white grubs. You have to identify the scenario you are in and be equipped for that ecosystem. Bass are opportunitic too so they'll swipe at random stuff but then you're playing with lower odds. Fly fishing has taught me how to be observant and particular with lures and presentations. In New Mexico, we catch 25" rainbows fishing with size #26 Midge emergers. Experience is starting to get me to hone in on details and I have a lot more to learn. It's why fishing is a lifetime hobby.
  3. Right on, I understand now. I totally misunderstood and see what you meant. I was just sticking up for the spinning gear guys LOL. You're right about casting outfits having their time and place and I have seen countless videos of SoCal anglers catching monsters off swimbaits. The videos were so inspirational that I almost had my Christmas list made up. But, I'll resist the urge and stick with my finesse gear. All good responses so far. OP - I fish highly pressured ponds in Phoenix metro area so I know all about crowds. Fish at night. I haven't figured the summer bite but here's what works in Fall, Winter, and Spring (think finesse): -3" grubs -4" PowerWorms on sliderheads -Zoom Super Fluke Jr. (Albino or White Ice) -Zoom Finesse Worms on sliderheads -small chrome w/ blue back rattletraps. -Strike King Bitsy Bugs w/ Netbait Chunk Disclosure: Threadfin Shad is our primary forage. If bluegill are your primary, I'd be Wacky or TX-Rigging a 4" Senko in Green Pumpkin w/ Black Flakes. I did this a lot in Denver Metro and rarely got skunked and you talk about pressure. Good luck!
  4. To clarify, what does casting gear have to do with catching bass? Are you referring to using a casting reel vs. spinning reel? I could've interrupted that incorrectly too!
  5. I only fish tubes late winter-spawn and never tried them Texas rigged. I'm old school and use a 1/16 oz #1 tube jighead with those bitsy tubes. I want to use a shroomz head next season. I throw them on #6 lb FC Sniper. Pumpkin with Green Flakes is great in desert ponds/lakes with sandy bottoms.
  6. I like the 2.75" Strike King Bitsy Tubes work great for me and it's the first to come to mind when I hear finesse tube http://strikeking.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=699&Itemid=1094
  7. It took me some trial-and-error and I've reached out for help here on BassResource on how to fish spooks, but once you learn how to walk the dog, it will surely win you over. I fish at ponds at night and this color has been exceptional for me. It's a Zara Spook Puppy (3") in Black Shiner. When the moon is out on a cloudless evening, the shining effect gets attention alright. I had the best luck during the post-spawn but it instantly died when the summer heat took its course. I have high hopes of it doing work this fall in shallow water. My buddies do good with the same model in Bone color during the day.
  8. Changes all the time, but this year, giving lipless cranks or chatterbaits with Fluke trailers a "yo yo" have been consistent from bank to kayak
  9. I hear you on the bett's spinner blade and single tail grub combo. I caught my PB crappie this year that way and countless bass and channel catfish too. Interchanging that spinner blade with a Roadrunner easily puts that in my top 5 lures of all time.
  10. Boom - Z-Man White Shad Chatterbaits, Rapala Rippin Rap in Chrome w/ Blue Back, Zoom Super Fluke Jr. in White Ice, Roboworm FAT 4.5" SXE Shad Staight Tail Worm and Zoom Junebug Finesse Worm Busts - Jackall Pompadour Jr., Whopper Plopper 90s, and Megabass Pop- X. (So, apparently I spend too much $$$ on top water lures that I get zero action on). I even had to mail the Pop X back due to a defected product right out of the box. As long as I have my true and faithful black Jitterbug.
  11. Any early thoughts on the new "bearded" Powerbait soft plastics and "maxscent" line up from Berkley? Im a huge grub fan so those bearded grubs looks interesting with the whole skirt effect. The chartreuse Shad white will be deadly where I normally fish. The maxscent chunk trailers (pumpkinseed and watermelon candy) look appealing for all the jig fishing I want to try this Fall.
  12. now that lure has some battle scars! I love it!
  13. Working great! There are more days than not that this is the first thing I view when I wake up and often the last thing I browse before I call it a day. I can't stop learning here. Thank you all for contributing. And it's free
  14. These 'search and destroy' hard baits have been promoted to legendary status.
  15. Personally, I would recommend a Storm 360GT jighead in 1/8 oz. colors are nice and the internal rattle gives it a nice, yet subtle perk. I like the combo by itself , despite what others have said, but now they are finally releasing just the standalone jigheads mid-summer. Just in time grab those paddle tails and burn this fall.
  16. I've never seen that Owner Ultrahead Finesse Ball before and that looks perfect for grubs and finesse worms. I do like Charlie Brewer Spider Proheads for Zoom swimin' flukes
  17. Great details and a story well told. Gorgeous fish
  18. This sounds like a dream I had the other day lol. Try an under spin with a white ice or pink Zoom Super Fluke Jr and let it fall for 4-5 seconds. Then work it back quickly like a jerk bait (jerk, jerk, then quick 1 second pause.....repeat that cadence) That would be the 1st weapon of choice for me. Go get em!
  19. Excellent tips! Appreciate the feedback a lot. Tight lines
  20. How do you like to work those Johnson Silver Minnows ? Thanks
  21. Good luck when you go. I absolutely LOVE trolling for trout in my kayak. Kastmasters and this Mepps Comet Mino is my new fav
  22. How did you work your fluke back ? Thanks!
