  1. Any other reels you would suggest? Want to take in all my options. Also still looking for a rod, could be slightly better quality, maybe in the $120 range. Do you know of any rods that could be great for that price? I've been looking at the St. Croix Mojo.
  2. Just looked at the Pflueger President. Looks like a great reel!
  3. I love shimano as well. Any shimano reels that are your favorite for my price point?
  4. Hi everyone, I'm looking for a new spinning combo so I have the ability to cast lighter baits. My parents don't really believe in having more than 1 rod/reel combo so they are not going to chip in, so I'm looking for a combo in the $150 range. $180 max if I can convince them to chip in $30 haha. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  5. Looking into making my own soft baits out of old plastics to save money. Does anyone have any tips to make them look better/have better action? Any tips in general because I'm just starting off.
  6. Baby brush hog!!
  7. Thanks! Looking at maybe a stratic. Any suggestions for rod/reels?
  8. I'm using mostly lightly weighted or unweighted 6-inch senkos.
  9. My current combo is good for senkos and jigs right?
  10. I have dobyns 703c med heavy. I'm thinking of buying a spinning combo to go with my current combo that way I have the ability to cast light lures as well as the jigs and senkos im already throwing. Good or Bad idea? I really enjoy the combo I have right now, but for heavy baits.
  11. My lure rating is 1/4oz to 3/4oz I believe. I am using mostly the same weights. I will occasionally throw something slightly lighter but it is rare.
  12. I'm in California as well and been doing the same. Been a tough time of year. My local lake looks identical in the back areas and coves. I'm in NorCal
  13. still having a lot of trouble casting any distance whatsoever, even with a jig. I have 2 breaks on and the tension is set the way you guys have told me. Couldn't cast more than 15 yards today. Any ideas?
  14. Fished a small lake today with muddy water because of the rain in my area this past week and couldn't find any success. Threw a wacky rig, texas rig, black and blue jig, and a crankbait but had no bites. The grass in the water made it hard for the crankbait but otherwise couldn't find the problem. I fished a fallen tree, a small point, and just random areas along the bank that I thought looked good. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  15. What is the reason for the first step? Should I respool completely?
  16. I know I shouldn't be having a problem but I feel like I can't get them more than like 20 yards whereas I've seen other people cast them much further. I personally think my problem is that I keep my thumb on the line when I cast a lot because of scared of birds nest. Braking and everything also come into play but I think I just found my answer.
  17. Jigs are 3/8oz to 3/4oz, maybe 1oz very rarely. You know the weight of senkos and all that. Idk about crankbaits though.
  18. I'm mostly casting jigs, senkos, and crankbaits with the everything else occasionally.
  19. Right now I keep 2 brakes on but thinking of turning them both off. I'm using 20lb braid.
  20. still trying to figure out the breaking system and tension knob. Have any tips?
  21. This is a big thing for me cause I fish a lot with lighter baits but can't seem to figure out how to cast them further. I also wanna know how to cast any bait further in general. I am using a 7ft medium heavy fast action rod and a Shimano Curado 201HG reel (7:2:1)
  22. Lol. Love the word choice - "Importanter". Thanks for the help!
  23. Thanks man! What's your biggest fish on a fluke?
  24. Best Brand/Style? Size of hook? How do I work it properly in both warm and cold water? Best colors for clear/murky water? Would I just follow my general knowledge or is it different for these baits? Any other advice!? Thanks!
