  1. I should have phrased that better haha! I just thought maybe some people might be selecting this reel over others because you could use it in saltwater. It really sounds like the BG is just the way to go no matter where your fishing.
  2. I'm looking for help choosing between a Daiwa exceler LT 2500 and a Daiwa BG 2000. It will be going on a dobyns 702SF. I only fish freshwater and this rig to dropshot bass. I had planned on the exceler lt but you always hear so many good things about the Daiwa BGs. I've never held a BG so I don't know what they're like. Is it mainly a saltwater reel like it's advertised? Have any of y'all used both? I have a buddy trying to talk me into a lews so that's probably the only other brand I'd consider. I'm not even sure what they'd have to compare. I've been a Daiwa guy for a while, it's usually with baitcasters though. I don't know as much about spinning reels. I would appreciate any advice! Thanks!
  3. I'm not really a computer whiz, so I don't know exactly what all I just read...but hey that big L looks a lot better than that silhouette guy that used to be my picture ??? Seriously though it sounds like you're really working hard to keep us up with the times...makes the forum look a lot better. ?
  4. Tackle warehouse Labor Day sale has started. 15% off and 10% of purchases will go to the Red Cross to help hurricane Harvey victims
  5. I like the h20 outdoors and bandit footloose wakebaits. If you want a bigger profile the 6th sense wakebait would be a good one.
  6. Has anyone tried these yet lol? I wouldn't hate on anything without trying it first. I have not used them yet so I don't know about durability, but they claim it's a more elastic material that will stretch more. If these were elaztech people would be excited. They'd probably never tear. Now these likely won't be as good as elaztech but who knows, they may be more durable than we think...just sayin...I am planning on ordering some to try myself! But then again I think I'm one of those suckers that always falls for the latest and greatest tackle! ???
  7. The differences are in the mostly in the hook and head type. He offers brush, arky, dock rocker, and football heads. The different series he offers like gridiron and dredge series for ex, have different hook types. Siebert jigs are praised highly on here. I haven't used any yet but I'm planning on ordering some soon!
  8. From someone who has never used mono. Putting aside the visibility argument, if less belly is the main benefit, could you run flouro with a mono leader? This would of course assume the knot failures are at the lure and not at the leader connection. But it seems you could still get the increased sensitivity and perhaps not have as many knot failures this way. Just curious if you've tried it?
  9. I think your really gonna like that reel. I recently got a tatula ct and I love it!
  10. Welcome to the forum! Line weight is a give and take kinda deal. The higher the poundage the more abrasion resistant it is, but you lose casting distance and lure action as you go up. So you have to find a balance between good enough casting distance and strong enough to fish where you want to fish. For that setup with a spincast, I would recommend 10-12 lb Berkeley Trilene XL or McCoy mean green. Both of these are very supple so they should cast well out of a spincast. The McCoy is probably a little more abrasion resistant.
  11. Fishnkamp, I am glad you explained that. That was exactly my experience when I first got my tatula ct and I set it up wrong. I can absolutely see why someone would hate these reels if they set them up wrong. I set mine up wrong when I first got it and it was a backlashing machine...but after I set it up like you mentioned it casts great!
  12. If it has weeds growing to within 6in of the surface, a wake bait could be good too. Some of them will get down just enough to tick the tops of those weeds...but as others said start out with the frog. Good luck!
  13. I haven't bought a refurb from them personally but plan on buying my next fury that way. Dobyns' customer service is touted pretty highly so I have no worries. I'm sure their refurbished rods are fully inspected and in great shape or they wouldn't sell them.
  14. I don't think this works as well with tatulas. I think it's why some people don't like them as much. Fishnkamp knows what he's talking about on setting these up. I run my tatula ct with a little spool play too. It's not much at all but it's there. Mine just didn't cast near as well without some spool play. It seemed to wanna backlash more until I loosened the spool tension a bit. I know that's counterintuitive but that was my experience. I run mine with a little play and the mag breaks usually around 8-10 and have no problems. I think if you set it up like Fishnkamp says you will be happy. Good luck!
