  1. Well said A-Jay. Practicing getting back into your boat after falling in, like Tom mentioned, is even more important for a kayaker. Next year will be my 10th year fishing from a kayak, so I'm far from being an expert. However, kayak reentry was the very first skill I practiced after buying my first kayak and if you haven't practiced this skill, you're behind the power curve. I have also had a couple of unplanned swimming trips while in a kayak, so I know what it's like to be cold and wet. I also qualify for the senior citizen discount and as a rule I don't like cold water, bones just can't handle it like they use to. That being said, I AM NOT going to miss out on early fall, or more importantly, pre-spawn fishing action from the kayak. The kayaking industry has spent many hours and dollars in developing cold/wet gear for the kayaker, YoTone, so do your homework and seek out those with experience in this area. I consider NRS and Kokatat to be the industry standard when it comes to kayak clothing/gear, so you may want to start there. If there is a kayak specific retailer close by, give them a visit and see if they carry this clothing so you can get a "hands on" of what they offer. More importantly, be safe.
  2. Whoa...haven't met many anglers on this side of the pond who knew about the spinning tackle. You will, however, see baitcasters used in product videos, but I think that is done mostly for the American market. I've been collecting and fishing these lures for years and I think they are well worth the coin. I also throw LC pointers, (The Slender and jointed being my favorite in the LC lineup.) but the 110 and Ito Shiners down right shines when it comes to action and triggering strikes. The cost is an issue among many anglers here in the states, but there is a markup when sending these lures across the pond. There are some retailers in Japan who include these lures in their holiday sales (unlike those in the states) and if you make a sizable order you can offset the shipping. I travel to Japan about every two years and I always take advantage of the trips to fill a check-in bag with lures for the return trip. Last year I purchased some 110s for around 1990 yen, that's about $17-$18 US. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth, so I understand the issue with tackle price. On the other hand, whenever I discuss lure prices with someone holding a $100-$200 rod/reel and they're laughing at my $20 lure, I don't get it. That lure tied on the end of the line is, IMO, the business end of our craft.
  3. That bait looks like it would be a killer at night. I'll have me a couple by next summer.
  4. Don't cry, I'll tie some for ya.
  5. No, it might have been a limited color. The one below it is the Wagin Oikawa Male, it does very well in stained water.
  6. It's the Female Gill. I picked up three of that color when I was in Japan awhile back and I've been looking for more.
  7. Been throwing the Ito Shiner more and more the past 3-4 years. I'll never give up the Vision, but I'm liking the action of the Shiner and the results are just as good.
  8. My girl for 32 years.
  9. I've got my Dad's old Fish Lo-K-tor ,"Little Green Box," that he used in the 60s. I turned it on about 10 years ago and it still worked. It's amazing how far electronics have come. Check out this relic my Dad bought around 60 or 61. I have no idea how it works.
  10. Today I use a Helix, but back in the mid 70s the Bird Trap was all the craze. I bought this unit back in 1976 when I was home on leave and used it through the early 80s. It sits on a shelf in the man cave and about every two years I hook it up to two 6V batteries and fire her up.
  11. Not quiet what I was fishing for.
  12. I don't always throw a jig when I fish, but when I do I throw a Siebert Dredge Jig. https://www.siebertoutdoors.com/Dredge-G2-Jig-489.htm
  13. The guy running the range mentioned a trigger replacement, is that what you're talking about?
  14. Like to see Team9nine's thread continue and I hope there are other tackle finds and collectors here on BR. It's neat to see how tackle and lures have evolved over the decades. This will be my first contribution to the thread. Croaker Frog by the Paw Paw Bait Company, late 1930s. Covered in real frog skin.
  15. Same thing happened to me with a 50 2 stroke years ago. I put in new plugs and it ran fine. ( Be nice if that was your fix.)
  16. I've thrown all the above except for the Savage Gear. I especially like the Gantarel Jr. and have had good results running it along drop-offs during prespawn. Really like the rotating hook hangers. I added a large turbo blade to a couple of my Gantarel baits and they really "thump." Does it help, I don't know for sure, but I'm a believer in changing up a bait's signature from time to time and they still hammer it.
  17. You could cheat and throw a Senko. (just kidding) I'd throw a Mann's Blackberry Jelly Worm, if there's a bass in there, she will find it.
  18. Yes! Another Okie! Welcome!
  19. The Hawk is considered a messenger bird and sometimes brings us messages from the creator. Maybe you are going to have a good hunt.
  20. Well, my son settled on the S&W M&P 9mm with 5 inch barrel. He went to a range twice and fired multiple automatics before choosing the S&W. He had the best results with this gun, so I ordered it and it should be here tomorrow. I'm not too crazy about the color, (I'd prefer black.) but he's the one carrying it. Thanks to everyone who provided input.
  21. You're not going to catch a thing with those. Send them to me and I'll properly dispose of them for you.
  22. My wife feeding the deer yesterday at Lake Humphreys, Oklahoma. we must have seen over a hundred deer that have migrated to the lake property (a no hunting area) just ahead of bow season. The deer have been doing this for many years and do not fear humans around the lake.
  23. My dry pants are from NRS, but I think the particular style is no longer sold. I'm sure their newer pants are every bit as good. I bought the NRS Boundary Shoe four years back and it was the best investment in kayak clothing I ever made. They come up to just below my knees and when I tuck my dry pants inside and cinch the straps on the Boundary Shoes, I'm warm and dry. (wear warm socks inside the shoe) Check out the reviews and videos on the Boundary Shoes, I highly recommend this footwear.
  24. Combat trailering for rapid launch operations.
  25. If memory serves me, the very first bass caught in the very first B.A.S.S. tournament was caught on a worm, Bill Dance, June, 1967. (Please correct me if this is wrong.) I remember it well because I caught my first bass on a Crème worm in May of that same year.
