  6. I've got a couple Dobyns Mag Hvy Fast Action rods I use for punching and jigs. Enough muscle to pull em out of the slop.
  7. That moment when you realize that your dog is not only man's best friend, he's also INFANTRY!
  8. The original wood Scout was made by C.A. Clark in the 1930s (One of mine, picture) out of Springfield, MO. I'm not sure of the date, but Strike King bought the patent and sold the lure under the Spence Scout name. Their first version was a plastic copy of the old Water Scout and later they lost that bottom fin. I fished with my dad's and grandfather's old scouts and they were killers.
  9. If you're fishing 1/2 to full day you need more amps than the AA are providing. I'd recommend a 12v 12 amp lithium battery. That will give you enough amps to run that fish finder, lights, camera, etc. I've got two agm 12 amp batteries wired in a box I made that gives me 24 amps and it has enough room to add a third battery for 36 amps. It runs my Helix, two GoPro cameras, spot light and my nav light.
  10. Well, after going through a few jigs, I think I got this. (The ones that failed will be made into purple jigs.) I had no problems with painting and curing the base coat. (Silver/Black Foundation or what is otherwise known as silver vein.) The problem came when I started the second coat of Illusion paint. I usually preheat the jig (1/2 oz) for 15 seconds before putting it in the fluid bed, but the second coat was coming out too dark, almost a solid purple. I then started cutting back on the preheat time, 1 second at a time for each jig attempted. I also changed up heat sources, going from a heat gun to a torch. After several attempts, I finally got the look I was looking for. (Second pic, foreground.) The heat gun at 13 seconds gave the best results. Cure base coat at 350 deg for 8 minutes and second coat at 400 deg for 10 minutes. Will this work for you? That depends on you, your heat source, and your oven's actual temperature. About the only thing I can recommend is to take notes on what you did for each attempt and don't give up.
  11. Pull forward and try it again.
  12. Wish these videos were around 40 years ago, good info.
  13. Please support my fishing habit. You can send me money on Friday nights. (Cash only, I don't want to pay taxes.)
  14. While some of you were waking up to get ready for work, I was enjoying retirement.
  15. Man, I miss fishing with my boys. Why do they have to grow up?
  16. By golly I'll fish with it! On second thought, I've seen a few kids around the lake that would give their arm and a leg for it.
  17. Does anyone out there have experience using this paint? On other forums folks have said they get better results not using a fluid bed, and some say they use fluid beds and have had no problems.
  18. Happy Presidents Day! George Washington's tackle box, on display at Mount Vernon, Virginia.
  19. Glide baits...so looking forward to throwing this one this year.
