  1. That 6" Hoo Daddy has landed me quite a few quality bass over the years. Smother it in Hawg Sauce, flip/pitch into the cover and hold on, because they are going to slam it!
  2. I might run out and buy some after my nap...I take really long naps.
  3. "He who controls others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still." Tao Te Ching
  4. I checked some JDM sites the day I posted this and either they didn't carry them or they were sold out. I would have liked to have gotten my hands on that Perch color when they were available.
  5. Wishing you a quick recovery.
  6. NOS (new old stock) circa 1946.
  7. Similar in length, 2 3/4", the Risto Rap 7 weighs 9/16 oz and runs 7-9 feet. Shad Rap 7 weighs 5/16 oz and runs 5 - 11 feet. The Risto Rap has a thicker body.
  8. The Shad Rap has had a much longer run than the Risto Raps so it's natural they would be more popular. I like both, and there are times when a Risto Rap will outshine the SR. As far as the color patterns go, there are some patterns that are not shared between the two. (especially special colors) I've collected all models of Rapala lures since the early 1960s and continue to do so. (Pre VMC only.) The Fire Shad (FSD) is one the special colors that has always been good when the crank bite is on.
  9. I was wondering if anyone on here has ever tried these. I purchased these several years ago, and although I use wake baits, I've yet to use this bait. It comes with interchangeable prop and blade. I've also seen it marketed as the Bull and Bull Fish. I remember seeing it still being sold in Japan couple of years ago, but haven't seen it in the states for awhile. (Pictured with a S Crank 1.5 for size comparison.)
  10. Sizes 5 and 7 are my favorite, but I have all sizes.
  11. You didn't stock up?
  12. One of my favorite articles here on BR is "Normark's Risto Rap," by the late Larry Gonczy. https://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/Risto.html Although being discontinued, this bait will always be one of my favorites. I've heard it called the Shad Rap on steroids and it has always performed for me. It had a short run as Rapala soon introduced the DT cranks and the Risto Raps were discontinued. I made a run on these lures when BP put them out for $1 and I made sure I would always have access to this crank. There's nothing better than pulling a 20 year-old bait out of the box and having someone ask you where you can get the lure as you are pulling in a nice bass. I still see them on Ebay and if you are a fan of the Shad Rap, you'll like this lure.
  13. All the above. Think clear water or stained water.
  14. Met a few on the water this year that reminded me of...
  15. Those are beautiful dogs! The dogs that pulled our sleds looked like inbreds. Fairbanks, AK.
  16. Those newer seats on the sit-on-top kayaks will definitely help extend the years on the water for us mature anglers. There's nothing silly about exercising either. However, you should try to engage in some sort of exercise throughout the year, I'm certain it will play a role in delaying us from checking in to those dreaded "homes." I started weight training when I entered the military and have done it ever since. My wife has done Tai Chi for years and when I turned 40 (seems so long ago) she pushed me to try it. Like most westerners, I use to think Tai Chi was silly, but now having been doing it for many years with my wife, I can appreciate the benefits. I not only feel good physically, I also feel good mentally. We both do Tai Chi for 30 minutes every evening and it is my favorite time of the day. Look in to it, I promise you'll feel better once you start. More importantly, keep exercising and keep Yaking.
  17. Barely covers the ground and this will be major news in SW Oklahoma.
  18. Inside, the "man cave." I've got too much coin invested in tackle to be leaving it in the cold or heat.
  19. I had cataract surgery earlier this year and now, I can see sounds! BTW, should this be in "Everything Else?"
  20. I've purchased tungsten beads that acted the same way. My guess is that they sometimes are using a magnetized wire or tool to hold the beads while powder coating, which in turn magnetizes the beads. They will eventually lose this magnetization over time depending on how long they were exposed. There are methods for demagnetizing metals, and if you have a donut shaped magnet you can bend out a paper clip, run the beads over the wire and then pass the beads through the hole of the magnet a few times without touching the magnet. Do not pass the beads on the outside of the magnet as this will magnetize them. (Picture shows a screw driver being demagnetized.)
  21. Hate snakes, little snakes, big snakes, eating snakes, (Yes, I've eaten snakes.) I HATE SNAKES!
  22. I'm not sure, but I think a snow blower handles leaves too.
  23. Got my eyes set on the 7'3" Mag-Medium-Heavy.
  24. Tonight begins our annual tradition of all night phone chats with Army buddies. We started this 20+ years ago and even though we shed the same tears and share the same laughter, we enjoy it more and more as each year passes. I wish everyone a quiet and safe Veterans Day. 23 years ago, a member of our unit was killed in a terrorist attack, Central Region, Middle East. Sergeant First Class David Warrell, Special Forces Weapons Sergeant from Fayetteville, North Carolina, is remembered on the wall at the Special Operations Memorial, MacDill AFB. You are not forgotten brother.
  25. Your in New Jersey, resist the urge. Plenty of time before the big frog bite is on.
