  1. We are not even out of pre-spawn, but after seeing this photo I'm already yearning for those mid summer nights on the water.
  2. BOSS is calling it an illusion powder, but when I first got it, it looked and covered a lot like the candy powders that Pro Tec sells.
  3. I was at the right place at the right time when they discontinued those at put them out in a bin for $1, now I have enough Risto Raps to last a couple of life times. As far as a total count of all lures, I think it was around 20 years ago I started to count my cranks, jerks, and poppers and ended up stopping at a little over 3000. I don't know how many I have, it's a few. If you consider I've been buying and collecting for 50+ years, then a number like that doesn't sound all that crazy. It was around that time of my failed count that our insurance agent wanted it when we were updating our homeowners policy. When I asked him if he wanted to help me count them, he then said he would settle for pictures.
  4. Siebert Dredge jigs with Owner Deep Throat hooks...don't need no other jigs.
  5. I still have a cane pole I used when a was a little fart. It's old and brittle now. (60+ years) Landed my first bass with my dad using a Zebco 202 combo and a Crème worm, mid 60s. I wonder if you and I ever crossed paths on the Mississippi or Illinois river? We use to run up and down those rivers running trout lines in an old V bottom boat with a rag stuffed in a hole in the bow. I remember one time after checking a line, sitting in the channel, my dad went to pull the rope on the motor and it wouldn't start, with a huge ore barge coming around the a bend. Those were the days!
  6. Are you wanting to use the real thing or the ones made on plastic film?
  7. Anyone need any Risto Raps? I'm sitting on over 300 NIB. (I'm kidding, they're NFS)
  8. I know Barlows Tackle and Lure Parts Online has vises in that price range, but I know nothing of the brands and limits of the jaws as far as hook sizes they can handle, the description on those vises are vague and you would have to Google those vises for additional info or call the retailers and see if they would have that info. Right now I am using the Griffin Spider vise and really enjoy using it, but it will run around $75.
  9. How much can you spend?
  10. Just a couple of distant cousins, Virginia and Flossie. Circa 1927 (actually not, just thought this was cool)
  11. Problem solved, you can thank me later.
  12. The Alice pack holds a ton of 3700 boxes and even has front pockets for your soft plastics. It even features a quick release shoulder strap so you can get to your tackle in a jiffy.
  13. Looks good. What is the skirt called and where can I get if you don't mind me asking. I'm using the heat gun to preheat the black/silver foundation, found it to give a better look with the black part. After curing I then use the toaster oven to preheat for the illusion dip. I've been changing up the preheat temps for the illusion and am now satisfied with 285-290 degrees. (this is one process where I had to use an oven thermometer) One thing is sure, this stuff is not like the one color Pro Tec paints, I've found it to very picky in it's handling. Even the way you dip the Illusion will vary the finish. I've been wanting to drop test this paint to compare it against the Pro Tec, but they look too good to do that.
  14. 70 1/2 oz jigs = 35 oz or 2.1875 lbs + 50 lbs for other tackle + 24 lbs, power box + 50 lbs other gear = 126.1875 lbs. Weight capacity of my kayak: 600 lbs - 126.1878 lbs = 473.8125 lbs remaining. Yep, I'm good.
  15. I've used a couple and am now using a Griffin Spider. They say it will take a 4/0 hook, but I've found it will hold a 5/0 no problem. Griffin has been making vises for years and if a part breaks they will replace it. I think I got mine on sale for $75 and my brother picked one up for $68 during the Black Friday sales. Once you use a vise with the rotating feature you'll never use another.
  16. I've dressed treble hooks and tied bass jigs, but I've never tied a fly. I think your creation looks good. If you plan on really getting into this hobby I would recommend a rotating vise, it will make your tying experience much more enjoyable. Have you checked out Barlows Tackle for material? I get hackle from them and the prices are good as well as the material.
  17. Yes they do, and when I go up to Illinois this year I'm bringing back a few. Spray them with a rubber coating.
  18. You're correct, it is not. All kayaks experience weathercocking, some more than others depending on the shape of the hull. All kayaks have a bow and stern, the bow creates a high pressure zone as wind travels along the side. The stern creates a low pressure zone, therefore presenting less resistance and allowing the wind to push it around until the bow is turned into the wind. "I only believe in Science."
