  1. Body was found this morning without a PFD. Spread the word, PFDs save lives!
  2. Received word last night that this young man, who recently returned from Afghanistan, took his own life five days ago. Please support your local Heroes on the Water chapter.
  3. I was out on a couple of lakes at our local refuge today and found some girls who were spawned out and hanging on structure just out from some beds in 8-9'. They were not in a feeding mood.
  4. This old Creek Chub lure (pictured) belonged to my late grandfather and I've been offered $250 for it. NFS. My last purchase was for a couple of those Evergreen Bream Slides, $66 each.
  5. I like it!
  6. I use to throw the Osprey, but now I'm throwing the 3:16 baits. Their durability is not any better so I always keep the glue on hand when fishing them. (3:16 added a free bottle of their glue the last order I made, not sure if they always do that.) Back when I fished the Osprey line through I would brush glue over the eyes before using (Still do that on the 3:16) and that helped to keep the eyes on. I also used small shrink tubing, can't recall the exact size, to run my line through the Osprey. Pictured is the 3:16 5.25" Minnow, comes 4 to a pack with beast hook.
  7. Calling you out! I happen to be one of your fans on YT, and I enjoy watching your videos. Based on the high subscriber count, I'm sure there are a lot young folks watching that are going to get into kayak fishing because they watch your videos. Please set a good example for them to emulate and wear your PFD, the life you save may be theirs.
  8. Ardie was 19 years old the day he gave his life for his brothers and country. MEDAL OF HONOR CITATION Specialist Four Ardie R. Copas distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a Machine gunner in Company C, 1st Battalion (Mechanized), 5th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division during combat operations against an armed enemy near Ph Romeas Hek, Cambodia on May 12, 1970. That morning, Specialist Four Copas’ company was suddenly attacked by a large hostile force firing recoilless rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, and automatic weapons. As Specialist Four Copas began returning fire, his armored car was struck by an enemy recoilless round, knocking him to the ground and injuring four American Soldiers beside the vehicle. Ignoring his own wounds, Specialist Four Copas quickly remounted the burning vehicle and commenced firing his machinegun at the belligerents. Braving the hostile fire directed at him and the possible detonation of the mortar rounds inside the track, Specialist Four Copas maintained a heavy volume of suppressive fire on the foe while the wounded Americans were safely evacuated. Undaunted, Specialist Four Copas continued to place devastating volleys of fire upon the adversary until he was mortally wounded when another enemy round hit his vehicle. Specialist Four Copas’ daring action resulted in the safe evacuation of his comrades. Specialist Four Copas’ extraordinary heroism and selflessness at the cost of his own life, above and beyond the call of duty, are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
  9. I usually don't need a hand, but I'll never turn down a young buck's help in getting my kayak to the water.
  10. Same here. Easy take down and set-up, stores inside the hatch with room to spare.
  11. Anyway, like I was sayin', chatterbaits is the fruit of the lake. You can burn it, slow roll it, fish it like a jig, lift it and let it fall, rip it through the grass. Dey's uh, big chatterbaits, small chatterbaits, and medium chatterbaits.
  12. This is why I'll never use a "scupper" cart. Fast forward video to 17:14 to see damage. Even on a Hobie, if the cart isn't properly installed you can damage the scuppers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-mo_-xziLI
  13. I saw one of these clock 11 mph, using paddle!
  14. If you go with the binders, let me know how that works.
  15. Memorial Day Sales are coming.
  16. You'll skate your eye out! I hit a couple of my granddaughter's eggs with the lawn mower today.
  17. I received a couple of Evergreen International Bream Slide baits as part of a JDM order yesterday. Ever since Jackall introduced their Gantarel swimbait, I’ve been getting into these bluegill-sized swim/slide baits. I’ve experienced good results with the Gantarel, especially with the smaller Gantarel Jr. As soon as my source for JDM lures finally stocked the Evergreen Bream Slide, I made plans to include a couple with one of my orders from Japan. My first impression with this bait is that it is very well built and finished. The bait comes packed in your standard clear plastic box with a hard foam insert, with feathered hooks detached. The photo finish is very similar to the Gantarel; however, the clear coat finish appears to be better. I’m not sure what brand hooks are used, but they seem to very strong and extremely sharp. The Bream Slide is comparable in size with the Gantarel. Unlike the Gantarel, the Bream Slide’s pectoral, pelvic, and caudal fins are made of a soft rubber material. There is an added bonus of the included Decoy Egg Snap; something I think should come with every swim/glide bait. It will be 3-4 weeks before I throw any swim/glide baits when I make a trek to the eastern side of the state, and I am anxious to see how this bait performs.
  18. Hang in there, that first bass will come. It's tough being restricted as far as where you can fish, I logged many miles on a bike carrying a pole when I was your age. One day you'll have a vehicle and you'll be able to fish the many good reservoirs in that part of the state. Should you need any help with some baits, let me know and I'll share some of my tackle with you. (PM with parent's permission.) Don't give up, Andrew!
  19. I can handle up to 12mph, but anything more and it becomes a task to hold a kayak in place. I crossed a lake once in a 25mph wind while in my Trident 13. It handled it ok, but it still scared the beejesus out of me. This is the time of year when I really pay attention to forecasts, even the wind down in Texas as it is usually a good indicator on what we'll get up here. Oh well, I'll stay home and mow the yard today, we have rain coming tonight.
  20. I forgot, you're in tornado alley also.
  21. Stitch stitch, paaauuussseee, stitch stitch stitch, "KAPOW!"
  22. Zebco personalized this 33 for Mr. Thompson, who worked as a manager for a sporting goods department in a hardware store, in 1964. He never used the reel and today it sits in one of my curio cabinets, as I will never use it. I landed my first bass, 2 1/2 lbs, using a Zebco 202 combo in the mid 60s. In the language of the "Googan" generation; Zebco is bomb!
  23. This time of the year can be really frustrating for Yak angling. Tomorrow is not much better, then storms forecasted through Thursday.
