03/28/20, Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. The drive out to the wildlife refuge was strange to say the least, traffic wasn't what it usually is for a weekend. The Ed Center and Visitor Center is closed due to the COVID threat, however, fishing and hiking is still allowed. I think folks are still worried about getting out as I only saw one cyclist and one other angler fishing from the bank of one of the lakes. Felt a little strange being the only yak launching because this is usually the busiest month for us. I saw many bucks guarding beds and the bite was slow, but I was able to hook into three of them, using a jig/swim jig. Wish I would have brought a spinner bait as the water was choppy due to the wind. I think this was our first spawn and there will others going into April, although I'm not sure how much longer the refuge will remain open. Get out if you can, the bass are feeling no pressure, that's for sure.
