  1. How did we even get any bass in the boat with those low gear ratio reels? I guess we just turned those handles as fast as our arms would move.
  2. I just finished watching Matt Nelson catching SM using an old reel/rod and an old Heddon Crazy Crawler from the 1940s. I've got probably close to 50 of those old Crazy Crawlers and hundreds of other Heddons dating back to the 1920s in my collection. As much as I've wanted to over the years, I can't get myself to tie on an old vintage lure and fish it. However, I enjoyed watching this old gear being used and I hope you'll enjoy watching it too, if you haven't already. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thbkQ1KQrGo
  3. Fishing out of a kayak, I don't think I could add anything that you haven't already seen (videos) or read other than you'll learn by doing. You have a nice kayak there, have fun!
  4. Forgot those rear tie downs, eh.
  5. This actually happened to me.
  6. Coming in a JDM box, in both floating and sinking. Color, Jya Ayu.
  7. I've never used it on my hard baits, but you're right about it sticking. I'll smother my frog or soft plastic with the stuff and it lasts. Only downside to the stuff, my hands smell like crawfish for awhile after using it. Other than that, the bass really like it.
  8. I've used this stuff on my frogs and creature baits for years.
  9. Saw this in the news yesterday and it literally broke my heart. Julia Yllescas, of Aurora, Nebraska, included her father, Army Ranger Cpt. Robert Yllescas, in her senior pictures. Julia was seven years old when her father was killed by an IED in Afghanistan. "No greater love hath a man than this..."
  10. I was listening to "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake when I caught my PB.
  11. Use a football jig on hard bottoms, use a casting jig to go through cover.
  12. If my wife sees this, you sir, are going on my "you know what" list.
  13. @Dens228 hit the nail on the head. I've been fishing from a kayak for 10 years now and I sold my bass boat after 3 years of starting as I realize that for me, there was no other way I wanted to fish. It may not be your cup of tea, but I will tell you this, I've already caught more bass from a kayak than I did all the years I fished from a boat. You might try and locate some "demo days" near you and demo other kayak models. If positioning from a paddle kayak continues to be a problem, try some of the pedal models.
  14. Good responses from both @A-Jay and @BoatSquirrel! You have one advantage over the anglers of yesteryear, a lot more swim jig brands to choose from. The "OG" rod tip shaking it's not needed with all the trailers available today. (A-Jay's picture) My favorite trailers are the Rage Lobster and Swim Senko. Keep at it and don't give up, a big ole tank is going to roll up on your jig one day and then it'll be on!
  15. Today is National Airborne Day! The first Airborne jump was made on August 16, 1940, at Fort Benning, Georgia. The Airborne School trains 10,000 soldiers a year to become military parachutists. "All American!"
  16. My nephew getting his 39' boat, the Calypso, ready for his "round the world" trip starting in October. "Make your life extraordinary, young man."
  17. Might be a little big for those Vermont bass. (Just Kidding)
  18. Yesterday's sunset on the refuge. (Photo: Saxon Smith)
  19. My wife tried that a few years ago. She stopped when I started putting her Amazon orders away for Xmas.
  20. From Google: "A glide bait is nothing more than a single jointed hard swimbait that swims with a wider S-motion in the water. What gives the bait category its name however is the ability to pop or pull the rod and cause the bait to careen and glide off to one side, often triggering a following bass to strike." Lucky Craft EPG 180 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIwl6fE7rjA I don't know if I would consider the Rapala Jointed Minnow a glide bait, the action is totally different. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tdyE8fcmSE
  21. You want me to do what?? I just finished reading an article where the author picked up a few more bites in cold water by removing the shine from his cranks using 220 and 320 grit sandpaper. It had something to do with fish coming out of the winter sporting a lighter, dull look. After sanding some of his cranks to a more, matte finished he claimed he was able to put a few more bass into the boat. I guess if my livelihood depended on putting bass in the boat I could do it, but taking sandpaper to some of my high-end lures, that's asking a lot. Anyone of you do this? Thoughts?
  22. Fixed this last night, replacement ordered for $9.95.
  23. Well, it turned out to be painless. Looks like AmEx is on the ball with this sort of thing. I had called them later that day and they told me not to worry and that they would take care of everything. They even had switched all auto withdraws over to the new card.
