  1. I actually misread his reply, I thought he was speaking of another brand with "black" in the name. Regardless, if you were to see the work that some of these folks put into making these wood baits, you'd understand the price. The time that goes into one of these baits blows my mind sometimes. Knowing the work and quality that goes into some of these squarebills, I've paid up to $50 for some of them. That's not to say you can't find a good balsa bait commercially produced that are cheaper, there are many out there. That being said, I have too many cranks, both plastic and wood, that I call my favorites. However, when it comes to cranking through the laydowns, I don't believe one can dismiss the value of a crank bait that quickly rises/backs out upon making contact with the wood. That is one attribute where a wood (balsa) crank really dominates other baits.
  2. It is so on! Highs next week are going to be mid 60s to mid 70s depending on where you're at in the state.
  3. I like using cranks made of wood when fishing laydowns, mainly because they rise quickly after making contact.
  4. MB lures are no longer packaged in hard boxes. The VR (Viper Red) can still be found in Asian tackle shops, but the Gill Female (SP-C, special color) is no longer in production.
  5. Don't wait until you actually need to use before you realize it doesn't fit.

  6. Spent five weeks in a container, but they finally arrived from Malaysia.
  7. I've never owned a tournament jersey @JFlynn97, but if it feels good when you wear it then by all means wear it. If I was to see you wearing your tournament jersey on the lake, I'd only see an individual who was proud of his team and school. I always wear my "colors" out on the water and have never worried about being called "that guy."
  8. Hang that in the man cave. That's my favorite color in the LC lineup.
  9. Not at all. My first kayak was an OK Trident, not really made for standing, and pitching while sitting was one skill I really wanted to master. I spent the first winter after acquiring that yak in my kitchen practicing. Every night after the wife and kids went to bed, I grabbed my pitching rod and sat on the floor and pitched for about an hour. The wife would come out the first couple of nights and shake her head and give me that "you're losing it" look, but come spring, I got to where I could consistently hit a 12" square tile at 15-20'. I put a couple of dents on the side of the range, but the nightly practice sessions paid off. I now have a kayak I can stand in, but being able to pitch while in a sitting position is a skill I am glad I mastered.
  10. Wall Hanger! Frame that and hang it in the man cave.
  11. Come fall I'm always looking for the shad or other baitfish on the graph. Once I find them I'll select a crank (starting with natural colors) that either runs at that depth or slightly above. Don't rule out the smaller swim/glide baits, they will work too.
  12. 15-20% off come Black Friday, @Russ E.
  13. X2, and don't forget the Black Friday sales coming up.
  14. BOOMER SOONER!
  15. Water temps are starting to slowly fall, 78-80 this morning and the water is beginning to clear up. Caught a couple on the chatter but the frog bite was really good. Really excited about the cooler water temps. I hope its a long fall.
  16. Congrats on your retirement!
  17. Better be quick, I got my eye on a lot of their stuff.
  18. I watched him make the Roman glide bait the other day, (for the 10th or 20th time) he is really good. I now know why those baits cost so much, he puts a lot of time and detail into making those baits. Good luck on yours @DanielG.
  19. There you go @cgolf, problem solved. Check out Mike's Dredge series jigs while you're there, you won't find a better jig anywhere.
  20. Hope you're all right.
  21. Whenever I'm getting ready to launch and I hear folks leaving say, "They got lockjaw today," I run back to the truck and grab a bag of Senkos.
  22. I learn something new everyday!
  23. That wasn't my intention, far from it. I don't believe I could have added anything to what was previously said other than encouraging him to keep using the bait. I have never, nor would I ever attempt to make anyone look stupid, here or anywhere. Sorry YOU took it like that.
  24. Plenty of posts/articles on BR that cover this. The only thing I would add is don't give up. Chatterbaits flat out catch bass. Gaining confidence in a new bait and technique is sometimes the hardest part of bass fishing.
