  3. ...until spring? Woke up to see the mercury at the 26 degree mark this morning. I only got to experience one good day of "fall bite" before back to back cold fronts started driving down three weeks ago. There were a couple of days when the temps climbed up in the high 40s, but 24-25 mph winds prevented me from even thinking about launching a kayak. They're calling for a brief warm up until the next wave of hawks come blowing down in about a week. So much for fall. Think I'm going to go ahead and start stripping line off reels and get them cleaned up for spring, 140 days, really?? Winter is the worse time for a retiree.
  4. I'm getting a new toaster oven (cheap model) to cure jigs in the next few days and I'll be hanging a oven thermometer on the rack. The temperature setting knobs on those cheaper ovens are not dependable.
  5. A few tools and YouTube how-to videos...Fight Back!
  6. I couldn't wait, got to beat the Black Friday rush. You just got my order, Mike.
  7. I'm almost there, my arthritis tells me when to hang it up for the year.
  8. I don't own the Conquest, but I have and still use the Calcutta reels. They are well built and smooth operators. However, if you've never used a round bait caster, they take a little to get use to. You can't palm them like you do a low profile and I find that when I pick one up to cast after using a low profile, it takes a few seconds to find my "hand memory." They are not the round casters our fathers and grandfathers used, they are much more refined and can be dialed in just as easily as the low profile reels. If TW still has their demo program, you might try it before you buy it, then if you decide you don't like it, you can send it back. (Not sure how this really works, give them a call.) I do know this about Shimano high-end reels, they are built like high-end Swiss watches and if you take care of them they last. I have a couple of the Calais reels that are over 10 years old and they still perform as good as they did when they first came out of the box. Go for it, I think you'll like it.
  9. I hope BR has a lot of videos lined up for posting, it's going to be a long winter and I'm already feeling the need for my fix.
  10. We had a little snow and freezing rain yesterday, it might be over for me this year.
  11. I'm a bounty hunter on the side, let me know if I can help.
  12. 100 year-old Jack Eaton from Burton, Michigan, was honored yesterday at Arlington National Cemetery. Jack is the oldest living sentinel who stood guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Infantry soldiers who are selected for this honor will serve a three year tour as a sentinel. His first guard mount at the tomb began in 1938, and after his tour was completed he went on to serve his country in WWII. "Never Will I Falter"
  13. Had a blast using an old Johnson Silver Minnow this morning. I like using these this time of the year, but they'll catch fish throughout the year. I have memories of both my grandfather and father using these and it's good to see that they are still being made today. Anybody else use these old style spoons?
  14. No, it was out of the water, guy was showing how the drive turns and how the blades tilt. Seeing the blades tilt completely horizontal with the hull really impressed me. I can understand the cost after seeing this drive system.
  15. Saw this in action today, neatest kayak drive system. The way in which the blades tilt reminds me of how helicopter blades tilt.
  16. I'm waiting @Bluebasser86! Just kidding. I am looking forward to seeing it, I already know I'm getting that jig box and I'm curious to see how your terminal box turns out. How does that WaterWlok thing work, do you have to "recharge" it ever so often?
  17. I start big and work down as the bites dictate.
  18. Zara Spooks make good submarines in the bathtub, just make sure you remove the hooks first.
  19. I use Decoy snaps on hard swim/glide baits and large cranks.
  20. You like wind do you? Come down to Oklahoma and try holding your kayak in position in a 20-22 mph wind like we had this morning. FUN!
  21. New moon window coming up, try it then.
