  1. I have a 2017 Lowe 1660 Roughneck center console tunnel jet boat. I just moved from Harrisburg,PA to Northern Virginia, so not as critically needed on the Potomac. It used to amaze me when I would go into the Bass Pro Shops in Harrisburg. The showroom was full of fiberglass Bass Pro boats. If those buyers think they are going out on the Susquehanna river in a fiberglass prop boat, the Susky's rocks are going to have something to say about that. I have sent that Lowe airborne while night fishing for cats near the Rockville bridge... It is by far the best 2 man boat for the money in that place, imo, and my only regret(s) was that I did not upgrade the trolling motor to more power, and have sponsons installed for floating downstream. For perspective, many of us putting out at places like Fort Hunter would have a digger bar (I did) onboard to get off a hang from rocks. That place tests a boat. This Lowe has passed all this morons' tests with (literally) flying colors.
  2. Thwap! (or is it thwerp!?) That's the sound that a bluegill makes when it hits your popper on a fly rod. That sound, that feeling, especially on something like a 3 weight fly rod... though a 5 or 6 weight is better starting off for most... Tough to beat in the pleasure department. Come on, spring! In the meantime, what everyone else said, plus put a piece of slim jim on your hook- the only hard part is that once you open the package, it takes more willpower than I have to not eat your bait.
  3. Thank you everyone for the nice welcome! Dwight, after careful consideration, I have come to the realization that when I hop in my car on occasion to go "head boat" / "party boat" fishing--DELMARVA typically--as fun as that is-- I have been heading the WRONG WAY North to Erie for me this year, for sure.
  4. If I left tackle in the packages, my wife would cut my allowance, as she's a practicing amateur fishing tackle detective. I "incorporate" alleged new items into the existing mix, thereby creating plausible deniability.
  5. Thanks for the very kind reply! I plan to try and meet Ken Penrod when I go to the GAOS. He comes to the campground right there at the Juniata and Susky to fish every spring. I think I've been reading his articles for years, but never met him. What I'm most interested in is his perception regarding the proposed lifting of the present ban on bass fishing here during the spawn. It was reported (Pennsylvania Outdoor News) that the PA fish and boat commission was to address this 3 days ago, but so far, no word...
  6. I've been browsing this site for a couple of years, so my joining is long overdue. My name is Dave. I have the great gift of living within 4 miles of the Fort Hunter landing on the Susquehanna. I'm originally from Madison, Wisconsin, but lived a good chunk of my life in northern Virginia. Avid fisherman since I was 4- I'm 60 now. Wisconsin river, Lake Wisconsin, Mendota, Monona, Wingra, Wabesa, Rapidan, Shenandoah, Burke Lake, Potomac, etc. etc. Retired Marine infantry (yep, 30 yrs in the suck- other than 4 as an air-winger rehabbing after I forgot to duck). If there is a finer smallmouth fishery than this section of the Susquehanna, I haven't seen it. I'll give away the worst kept secret fishing hole right here in my introductory post. If you are in the water and in view of "our" Statue of Liberty, you are there, my friend. I get there in a powered (trolling motor) Grumman 17' standard- hinged mount- poor man's jet boat. If you are attending the Great American Outdoor show... (throwing this in here because it's time critical) be advised that they have excellent food (beer and mixed drinks also) upstairs- most attendees never realize it exists. I believe that technically it's for the vendors, but they have never denied me service, so I don't know for sure if that restriction exists. Anyway, I thank so many of you for contributing to my fishing knowledge while I sat on my intellectual/contributory keester - for that I apologize, and will hopefully rectify going forward.
