  1. I'm looking to get a Dobyns Fury 734c and need a reel to pair with it. I am looking at the Daiwa Tatula CT ($129), the Daiwa Tatula 100 ($149), and the Shimano Citica ($149). I've held the CT in store but never used a Daiwa. I'm used to a more compact reel such as the Lews LFS Speed Spool. I also wouldn't say no to a Lews Tourney MB but I already plan on getting one of those and I'm wanting to try other brands. Any opinions on which reel would be a good fit for a Dobyns Fury 734c?
  2. How do the rod blanks between the 704c and 734c act differently? Which hits the backbone faster? I was under the impression that the 2 balnks acted almost identically hence why I'm asking.. So you don't have the Fury 734c?
  3. What do you mean by what I highlighted in red (see above)? Are you referencing the 704 compared to the 734 in the Fury line?
  4. I keep my index finger wrapped around the front of the reel (baitcaster), my middle finger and ring finger in front of the trigger, and then only my pinky behind the trigger.. Initially I didn't like how thin the handle on the Aetos was.. Now, I love how thin it is. I feel like I have total control over the rod. Also it's not so thin that it's flimsy by ANY means.. I love the skeletal reel seat and I have big hands. XL in all gloves, on occasion a 2XL if it's a more snug "cut of a glove"..
  5. I've never replaced a tip so is that something that would be better done by someone professionally? Also, would that void any possible warranties?
  6. I have a 6'8 MH/F Aetos that I've put 3-4 months of use on. I absolutely love the feel and sensitivity of the rod. It has truly made me a better fisherman. Anyhow, I've been having these little grooves forming in my tip guide insert. All I use is straight 15 lb P-Line Co-Poly. If these grooves don't affect performance then I could care less about them, but if they get rough and start to knick up my line or if the insert wears too thin that it breaks on a hook set I'll be ticked. What would you guys recommend doing and is this normal wear and tear on the rod? Is the insert sub par? I've used straight braid on a $50 rod before with this much use and the top insert doesn't have the same grooves.
  7. The 735 is a Mag Heavy. I assume that's what you mean by it being an extra fast and hits the backbone quicker..? So you truly believe that the 734 is a 9/10 for open water frogging if we say the 735 is a 10/10? Fascinating.. Hmmmm, I also have a 6'8 MH/F Fenwick Aetos. I'm just trying to fill 1 power slot heavier by getting the 734 or 735.. I don't do anything flipping or pitching being that I fish from shore.. Well, if the 734 would hold up to frogging, which I do mostly open water frogging, and it fits the bill better for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swim jigs, and heavier jigs then I'd probably roll with a 734.. What lb braid would you spool? Would you spool 65 lb on the 734? I'd tie a fluoro leader when need be. How is the tip on the 734? I know that's a broad/tough question to ask, but your best short description would be appreciated. Thanks man. BTW, I'm from Ames, IA. Where are you from?
  8. Do yo think that the Fury 735 could throw chatterbaits and spinnerbaits fairly efficiently? I need a frog rod and a rod that i can throw heavier jigs (1/2-3/4 oz) and swim jigs which is why I think the 735 would be the best fit for those techniques, but I'd like to be able to throw 3/8-3/4 oz spinnerbaits and chatterbaits too.. I know that a 734 would be a better fit though.. How much stiffer is the tip and action is the 735 than the 734? Also, on a scale of 1-10 how good of a frog rod would a 734 be? We'll put the 735 as a 10 on the scale as to how good of a frog rod the 735 is.
  9. How well can the 733 throw something such a a keitech on something like a 1/4 oz jig head?
  10. I don't use superline hooks or anything of that nature. Still think a 724 is better suited?
  11. Ok, so I am trying to decide between one of the following four: Dobyn's Fury 703/704 vs a 733/734. I would like to use this rod to throw big worms in the summer like Zoom Ole Monsters. I normally throw them with anywhere between a 3/16-3/8 oz bullet weight texas rigged. I would also like to use one of these rods to throw spinnerbaits and chatterbaits in the 1/4-1/2 oz range. Spinnerbaits and chatterbaits are not top priority though. My question is which of those four rods would be the best fit? Also, what is the difference between a 703 and 733. What I mean is does the tip of the 733 have more flex than the 703? Is the shorter rod 703 a stiffer rod? The reason I ask is because the 703 includes jigs in the description and the 733 includes lures that I'd attribute to a slightly softer rod tip. Is it true that a 703 would be stiffer than a 733 or not? Ultimately what rod would you guys pick for those applications and why? I am not fishing heavy cover. Also, are Dobyn's rods so underpowered that a MH is like a M or is it more like a Dobyn's MH is somewhere between a M and MH?
  12. I talked to a Bass Pro Shops fishing department employee yesterday, and I asked him what was up with the Curado price drop after I saw that both TW and BPS had them for $150. I asked if it was temporary and why the Citica, which now the Citica and Curado are both sitting at $150, hadn't dropped in price. He said that he wasn't sure why the Curado price drop occurred and didn't know when it would change back. He said that they had been selling price point comparative Lew's reels at least 5 fold of what their in-stock Citica and Curado product had been moving. He said that Lew's has been basically out selling all other reel manufacturers and he thought that it was possibly Shimano's effort to be more competitive with Lew's. Anyone else hear something similar to this?
  13. Up here in the Midwest we've had smaller rivers open for a couple of weeks, but water temps are still hovering just below 40 degrees.. Any suggestions on slow presentations for these lethargic small mouth?
  14. Lew's Tourney MB or Shimano Citica I. Take your pick. Just wondering.
  15. The "pistol grip" meaning the skeletal reel seat?
