  1. Fun day in Virginia! New Kent area with my dad today:
  2. Today was a very special day for me. Knocked off work a tad early to fish with my best bud, my dad. The weather got up to upper 60's so, after all this cold weather, pops and I were excited to go, however he wasn't feeling too good, had a bit of a cold and I offered to cancel and re-schedule, but I could see in his eyes he too wanted a father/son day. Picked him up, we hit the fishing club in New Kent and to our surprise, half the lake was still frozen! We even loaded up one john boat with all our gear, and couldn't even reverse it from the dock. We tried a boat on the other side of the hanger, where the sun had been shining a little more direct, and were able to back out after a fellow club member who lives on the land pulled us with a rope through some ice. From there, it was my job to smash ice from the very front of the boat as dad guided the trolling motor the most direct route to get us to the thawed half of the water. 3 casts in, he smashes a MONSTER 5.0 pound bass, and 10 minutes after than he lands a 4 pound pike! I ended up catching 3 small bass, but the time we spent together, swapping stories... discussing life and just being buds, coupled with helping my dad net 2 giants gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. Dad's monsters were caught all on a crawfish colored squarebill at a medium retrieve. My 3 spotted bass (?) were all on a 6' suspending rapala jerkbait. Only in 2 hours time! Cheers SOUTHEAST ANGLERS!!! It was also 15-20 MPH winds. Worth IT!
  3. I agree that after seeing the FLW Circuit Breaker Season 3, I would definitely choose Mark Daniels Jr. What a class act, with a humble yet funny side who is a great angler. My runner-ups would be: -Greg THE HACK ATTACK Hackney -Mike Iocanelli -Scott Martin I also love the youtube anglers that kill it. (Robert Terkla aka LunkersTV, Alex Peric aka APBassin and of course... the man himself: Andrew Flair aka Fishing with Flair). GOOGAN SQUAD guys rule. If you dont know about these guys.. youtube them they have 100's of thousands of followers. Cheers.
  4. Mike There's some good fishing here! If you're ever headed to va send me a message and we will go!
  5. My best day was an early fall evening at a local honey hole (3-4 acre golf course bass pond full of vegetation) and from about 6-730 pm I was walking the entire perimeter of the pond, throwing a rebel popR lure alongside the vegetation lines. Pop, pop.. REST. Pop, pop, pop REST (repeat). In an hour and a half I snagged 17 largemouth on top water action, missed about 6 or so more. Ranging from *** pounders. It was magical. And it was my second day trying top water action. Still gives me goosebumps thinking about that night!
  6. A buddy of mine and I are wanting to hit this reservoir mid February for some winter bass action! Any members fished here? If so... results? I'd love to know how to prepare and what to expect. Cheers! I'm brand new here.
  7. Thanks flyfisher! 804 in the house!!!
  8. Lonnie, haha thanks man. I agree. I do kinda like Gruden but it's always disappointing being a skins fan. Good luck to you and your fishing outings in 2017. Hope you land some TOADS! Cheers.
  9. 40 degrees out. caught this one 1/3/2017. my PB of 2017 so far. 4.2 pounds. on 3" storm shad swimbait. 7' st. croix medium heavy rod/shimano saros 2500 reel. 10 pound mono line.
  10. Never used/tried ned rig. Youtubing that now! Thanks for the suggestion... I'll definitely tie one on Friday!
  11. Thanks so much guys! Very excited to learn from all of you and share in the wonderful community that is: BASS FISHING! Hoping I can whack em' Friday. My goal this year is to: -Catch 500 bass (need 489 as of today) -Cath an 8+ pounder -Log in a 20 pound day I also need to learn how to: -Use my new bait caster -Fish with jigs for winter bass -Learn how to pick apart ponds, and small lakes quickly (finding brush, structure, depths etc)
  12. I Got Wood: Greetings from the 804 to the 757 my friend! I will post everything from my Friday trip, and hope to land some nice sized ones. Probably will start with a 6-9' suspending jerk bait and twitch that by brush piles and deep water structure. Thanks for commenting Grampa11114. Tight lines guys!
  13. Greetings from Richmond VA. I'm new. Happy New Years and tight lines!
  14. Thanks Paul. My winter arsenal will be: squarebill crank baits, rat-l traps, jigs, and of course jerkbaits! I'll keep you guys posted. Cheers! I did catch a 3 pound trout in a country club pond when we got 8" of snow, in 20 degree weather. That was awesome!
  15. 35 year old from Richmond, Virginia that's new to bass fishing. I fished as a kid with my dad, but wasn't until this summer that I got really into it. Im able to fish for at least a couple hours, several times a week, and have several decent bass ponds near me that I like to explore. Sometimes it's just walking on to a golf course at sunrise or sundown for an hour, other times it's going with my dad to a 50 acre private fishing club. My PB so far is 5.5 and I just caught a 4.2 last week. I am humble and slightly obsessed with bass fishing, so Im here to learn more and share any tips I have with you folks. I'd love to connect with some bassers in Virginia that would like to fish with me as well. Im also a die-hard Redskins fan, which means I'm used to disappointment haha. Cheers.
  16. In Virginia, we've experienced the Polar Vortex, going from low 40's to low 20's and getting between 6-8" of snow. All of my multi-acre bass pond spots are frozen, however by today temps jump to the mid 40's and by Friday (when I hope to get out on the water) they'll be in mid to upper 60's. While I realize there have been many posts about post cold front fishing... this is more specific to Virginia and to a 40 degree swing. I know the water will still be chilly (prob low 40's) but will the bass be shallow and sun-bathing after all this cold shifts to warm? If so... what would you guys recommend throwing? Squarebills? Jigs? Im supposed to fish a 50 acre awesome pond Friday and want to be prepared. Thanks!
