I was messing around with other rods in the store and noticed that the action rating seems to be a loose term across different manufactures. Bending a ML fast action st croix seemed to have the same bend as the berkley lightning. Where as a berkley cherrywood with a "fast action" seems to bend past the mid section of the blank.

Thanks for the insight, I might get a berkley cherrywood since they have the length and action I want. I have an ultralight berkley cherrywood that has probably a couple thousand fish caught on it even a couple big cat fish and bass and has held up well. Ill be beating the creeks hard so I don't want to invest too much money in the rod just incase of a mishap. Ive had expensive rods that broke and are still sitting in my garage broken due to the hassle of the warranty claims lol. So you all seem to agree medium action rods will not overpower creek smallmouth. A lot of the ones we catch are super dinks but few are in the couple lb range, hence my thinking for a ML

So I’ve always use 6,6 rods so I’d like to stay with that length. A lot of the smallmouth in these creeks are tiny but there are some decent ones.

So I just moved to the beautiful ozark and missed smallmouth fishing in Kentucky so I want to pick it up here again. I mainly fish small creeks and rivers so I don't want something that will overpower the smaller fish. My main question is the action of the rod. Im looking into a lot of medium light rods but the ones I like all have a moderate fast action instead of fast. I fish a lot of ned rigs and weightless TX rigged worms. Im no expert, will a ML with a moderate fast action be less effective than a ML with a fast action? Id like a rod on the cheaper spectrum, since I will be doing a lot of canoeing in small streams and have seen the pain and suffering from a buddy who snapped his st croix. The main rod I am interested in is the newer berkley lightnings. Ive had good luck with these rods in the past but they do not make it in a ML with a fast action.

Ill have to maybe contact berkley and see what models of the lightning shock have this trigger because id like to order more of them online.

So I picked up a lightning rod shock from wall mart the other day. The trigger looks different than the image online. I didn't like the triggers that were on the regular lightning and thought the shock had the same one. The lightning shock I have has about the same trigger as the cherrywood, did they recently change it if so Im hoping they will change it for the standard lightning as well.

I fully admitted that it was my fault. With that being said theres still a no questions asked warranty that the company offers, you just have to pay the replacement fee. I was not trying to have them replace it 100% free. Ive never broken a rod and I'm very cautious with them but I was talking to my wife and the door slammed behind me.

Funny you say this, I had to put a $200.00 reel on a $25.00 cherrywood to get me through the weekend.

Ok so I had a rod that I loved, cost me about 100.00 and I snapped it in a door. I didn't get upset but then noticed it will cost me $70.00 to get a replacement. While its still cheaper than getting a new one it hurts. Im thinking of sticking to a rod i can find anywhere like academy/dicks so in case I snap another one I can run down the street and exchange it or pick one up easily. The rod I had was not sold at very many retailers so I didn't have that option. Do any of you stick to big box store rods like lightnings and such for the ease of replacement?

I fish a lot of senkos/jigs, top water and some cranks. maybe a spinner bait here and there. Ive never had a MH rod but want to stay with a 6'6

picked up the shimano and I like it better already just casting a plug around the yard. I want to pair it with a 6'6 jonny morris carbon lite but don't know if I should go M or MH. I know a lot of rod company ratings are not what they actually are.

I fish a very small boat so I can only take one or two rods if I'm fishing with a buddy, the revo gave out when i was way out from the launch ramp. This is why I need a super reliable reel within the 200 dollar price point. Its sad since I enjoyed abu garcia but This shouldn't happen on the first day regardless. I thought maybe it was a fluke but when I got home I read its a common thing among revo/abu owners and it turned me off. There are so many great companies that its hard to choose. I think shimano might be my next try since like I said I've had good luck with their spinning reels. Lews and diawa seems like they also make great reels so Im still going to look at those.

Ok so got the revo sx and first day out the spool would not re engage after a cast. This only happened once and after fixing it, it worked but still believe something shouldn't fail the first day out. Im now looking at the shimano curado. Ive had great luck with shimano products in the past but its all been spinning gear. Im returning it to academy and since it was bought with gift cards it needs to be a reel academy sells. Thank you

i ended up with the 6'6 maybe some day ill have a 7'0.

Ok so im torn between both the 6'6 and 7'0 veritas casting rod in a medium action. Ive always had a 6'6 and don't know if I should go with th 7'0. I put the triggers together on both and the tip of the 7'0 doesn't seem more than a few inches longer but the handle is longer than the 6'6. I need an all purpose rod and I mostly fish weightless senkos, top water, and some jigs. I do a lot of shore fishing in KY so its pretty overgrown but also have a small boat so not sure if length really matters. Also I hear medium heavy is a good all around action but I've read the veritas is on the heavier side so I was thinking the medium would be a good choice, the 7'0 feels a little less stiff in the tip than the 6'0 any insight would be appreciated!

Just acquired one of these with a trailer, outboard, and trolling motor. have yet to take it out due to work and rain. There is pretty much no info on these compared to the bass raider. Just wanted to see who owns one and your opinion and any cool mods to do. Thanks ill try and get some pictures up.

Picked up a pelican predator 103 off craigslist. Came with a trailer a 3.5hp outboard battery trolling motor and a few extras. I was going to get the 10e but for 300 more I snagged this one up. Ive been preparing it for this weekend too bad theres not a lot of info on them like the bass raiders.

Ok so I had a sportsman 2 and it fit perfect in my tacomas bed with the tailgate down. Now I know the bass raider will hang off but I'm wondering about the width. I would like it to fit in between the wheel wells and the specs online show the width measuring from the seal. Does anyone know the width of the bottom of the pontoons since it tappers down? thank you.

I'm using a abu garcia black max combo from wall mart I received as a gift. I would like to purchase a nicer reel and rod but for now its catching bigger fish than my buddies expensive combo. I was looking at the revo sx reel since from what I read a nicer reel tends to be easier to use vs a cheaper real like the black max I have.

Now in the year of fishing with a bait caster Ive only re spooled the braid once due to a bad bird nest I couldn't get out. I used some trilene for the first week to figure it out and have used braid since. It was more of a question if mono would suit me better over braid with the lure choices since theres such a vast choice of line it gets confusing on what each is used for.

I didn't know about the line digging with lower lb braid. I have noticed it happens often with my 20 lb test. I might just try some 30lb I'm guessing power pro is pretty popular and is an ok price.

Ok so Ive been bass fishing for about a year and have done very well. I started using a bait caster not too long ago and have used power pro 20lb braid. I primarily fish weightless/ weighted senkos and top water poppers or spooks. Now I'm not a pro at bait casting and have only used about two spools of line caused to bird nests. Well yesterday I was complacent and got a horrible bird nest so I needed to cut 12 bucks of line off after the first cast of new line. My question is should I switch to mono for my lure choices or just stick to braid? I do fish some heavy cover sometimes and I was thinking of using berkley big game in either 12 or 15lb test, If i do switch to mono what is the better lb test for my uses. Also money isn't so much a factor if one serves a propose better but if it doesn't I wouldn't mind saving money lol. Ive done a lot of research about lines but there not specific to what lures there using any help would be appreciated. and heres a picture of my PB bass since I started fishing just for fun caught on a weighted yum dinger and the braid.
