  1. I like to use a 7' MH fast rod, same a I use for my 110s. Works just fine. In a pinch, I also threw it on a 7' H rod, which worked equally well.
  2. Buzz baits have no place in my box. Can’t be paused, can’t be casted as far, and can’t be retrieved as slowly as a whopper plopper. The whopper plopper is just a more versatile bait. Any place with vegetation where I couldn’t get a plopper through, I’d reach for a Sprinker frog.
  3. Looks great! I'm eagerly awaiting my first order from you to arrive in my mailbox!
  4. Oh man I can't wait for a new Curado 70.
  5. This week I got a 7' Heavy Fast action Zillion for a great deal from a member here. Went out and picked up a Curado 70 to put on it. Once I got over the fact that it's a Shimano reel on a Daiwa rod, it's become a fantastic combo.
  6. Yeah, Owners are great hooks.
  7. I got a brand new Curado 200 for right around $110 in an auction. BIY just seems to be a bit easier though.
  8. I fished very similar conditions the other day on the Willow Flowage, a couple hours east of where you are. Only technique that produced strikes was a frog in shallow water. Hopefully you have better luck than I did.
  9. Thanks for all the responses, all feedback is appreciated. I got 4 of them tonight in about 45 minutes on a swim jig with a Keitech trailer. No action on a spinnerbait, regular Keitech, or Sammy. Interesting how that works.
  10. No wrong doing on Berkley's part, it's business! But I'll still pay the little bit of extra money for a Plopper.
  11. Stop being condescending, it makes ya look bad. Anyways, I got all the info I need, have a good one!
  12. Another user already answered my question quicker than you could google it, thanks though
  13. Thanks for the suggestions, I never even considered a fluke, spinner, or ned rig. I'll give a fluke a shot tonight, I think that would best imitate the fleeing baitfish. Thanks!
  14. Never used one, but the GOAT Bill Dance used them so theres that...
  15. Hello all, I know there are some threads about this reel but those conversations went in a different direction and I didn't want to distract from them. Anyways, I'm simply wondering if the new Curado DC has that "whine" noise when casting. I love that sound, but I've read that the Scorpion DCs didn't really have it, so that's why I am questioning if the Curado makes a similar noise or not. Also, what color is the handle and drag star? Stock photos online show it to be a sexy (can a reel be sexy?) bronze color that accents the black beautifully. But that reel tester on youtube said it was a green color. I know these are both shallow questions that have no relation to performance on the water, but I like my reels to be aesthetically pleasing so I can look and them and fondle them during the long, cold, and dark Wisconsin winter and feel secure with my investment?
  16. Hello all, Theres a spot I fish from shore pretty much every night, and once every half hour or so smallies will push bait fish right up to the bank and smash them. Usually it's right under my feet, less than 10 feet away. Anyways, there bait fish jumping out of the water, big swirls from the bass... what should I throw? I've had moderate success with a Swing Impact Fat right below the surface when the fish are busting, but nothing seems to work in-between the busting periods. Any suggestions on baits that will get the bass fired up in-between the short periods where they are right on shore busting on bait would be appreciated! The Bank where I fish is mostly small rock, that steadily drops off to about 10-12 feet.
  17. Keitech. The 4.8 Swing Impact Fat is used more than any other bait for me already. They're other offerings seem to be on par with other soft plastic manufacturers as well. But nothing beats a Swing Impact Fat.
  18. I used the one that was barely too small for my rod. I heated up the metal base with a lighter, and was able to slip it over the rod, and that has been rock solid for me. Extremely happy with it for the small amount a paid for the kit.
  19. I once accidentally engaged the reel in the middle of a Whopper Plopper bomb cast. Sounded like my reel was going to explode, and my trusty ol' plopper went sailing over the horizon. I'm not sure that it has landed yet to be honest. 50 lbs braid was no match for my crow-hop powered, beast of a cast that came to an abrupt and disappointing end. Nothing worse than watch a favorite lure sail into the distance, wondering if it will ever return to Earth.
  20. If you're are looking for a quick and cheap fix, I've used the kit that Walmart sells to repair a tip, and it has worked surprisingly well. The replacement is still rock solid on my rod. The kit comes with 3 different tip diameter guides, so one of them will most likely fit.
  21. A 1/2oz Johnson Silver Minnow with a 3 inch grub on the hook. It is completely weedless, and it pretty much a chuck and wind technique. A #3 or #4 Mepps Aglia would be perfect also, if weeds aren't an issue. Also get her a 75 sized Whopper Plopper. Agai, chuck and wind technique but the visual strike will be enough to get any younger angler hooked for life. For line, 8lb mono is what i grew up with and it never let me down, but braid may be an upgrade.
  22. Megabass PopMax has been my favorite. It's super easy to walk like a spook, or use as a traditional popper. The paint jobs are magnificent, and have held up to plenty of toothy pike. It's expensive, but gets a 10/10 rating from me. It's the most dynamic topwater I've used.
  23. I play collegiate baseball so it's not so much a hobby as it is a job... but other hobbies of mine include baseball glove collecting, and I even have a modest fragrance (cologne) collection. I also have a great appreciation for small leather goods. Working as a hitting instructor/coach, studying, watching the Brewers, and fishing take up the remainder of my free time.
