  3. Put em on a A-Rig
  4. I really have to say 3 fish always stand out to me. Of course the first bass, which was from a river we stayed at all summer back in the 50’s. I was around 5 years old I guess, it might have been on a red and white Daredevil. Second was when my parents took me to a cabin on an un-named lake up in Maine. I was around 15 years old and the cabin had a tin boat with a kicker on it. We got nightcrawlers and headed out, it was here that I hooked my first Smallmouth bass, 5 lbs on the Deliarer . I could not believe the power and strength of this fish, hooked for life on these. Third was on my 14’ Mirrocraft with a 9.9 Johnson up on Greenwood lake, was with my father and hooked maybe my biggest Largemouth on a perch shad rap. I was in my early 20’s then. Back then never had a camera on the boat or ruler, just knew it was big.
  5. When you do that, make sure you leave a copy of Rock Bass Secrets
  6. I guess that they figure 90 is the new 70
  7. Mr Twister was the new thing when I was much younger.
  8. Wow, just wow! The only time I even saw DD's was years ago at the Bada Bing
  9. This too will past I'm just jonesing to get out and paddle, it's been a long winter.
  10. Here in North Jersey we've had the coldest winter in years. It's finally warming up a bit, but the wind has been relentless. Being in a kayak it's not looking too good yet, when looking at the wind forecast I add at least 5mph to it. Here's the next 10 day forecast;
  11. In NJ it's 70, this will be my 3rd year of not paying for a license here. We don't get a license here either, just need proof of birthday. Still have to pay 50$ for an out of state license for NY.
  12. Being on a kayak I’m limited on the amount of rods I can bring with me. The only really technique specific rod would be my drop shot rod. It’s a Kaden 7’1” medium light fast action with a Pflueger Supreme with 10lb 832 and a Tatsu either 6lb or 8lb leader. All the other rods are multi-purpose I only bring a maximum of 4 rods with me, it depends on where I’m fishing; murky river, clear river, deep clear reservoirs, shallow lakes. Saltwater is a different story, then I’m pretty specific with my outfits.
  13. I have mine on 100% of the time I'm on the water. I'm also in a kayak and am a paddler, no motor or pedals. It’s just a 2d color with maps loaded, and where it's mounted I can just glance at it any time. In some of the reservoirs I fish I'm just looking for bait, drop offs, depth, weed edge lines, stuff on the bottom and occasionally I actually target fish on it. It really helps in eliminating barren water, plus you never know when you might come across something you never knew was there.
  14. One week anywhere with my dad and brother, both have been gone for too many years. Just personally, my bucket list place would be Lake Champlain, can't wait too long on that as the sands in the hour glass are getting low
  15. Boat wakes are up there, the picture is in the Manasquan river by the Point Pleasant canal. Those are some of the smaller boats, so between the tidal current and wakes it can get quite interesting. We call it combat fishing. Fishing in the salt, tides and wind can make it a long grueling day. I’ve been doing more freshwater fishing in reservoirs and lakes with 10 hp limit or electric only. Being retired I can now choose to fish mostly week days which cuts down on the water traffic.
  16. Watching USA vs Canada , so far it's like old school hockey Saw the Old Brown Dog at the store, haven't had that in many years so I had to pick it up. Ayinger was stuffed way back in the beer fridge so I just had to have the last one. Nice wintery mix out here in North Joisey, snow now mixed freezing rain, changing over to just rain, supposed to get 60 mph wind tomorrow, just wonderful
  17. I heard him got em on a drop shot too
  18. Welcome from another goi from North Joisey, hopefully be able to get out on da wadder soon,,,,,, Love yer screen name, the origin of Devo
  19. Hair and marabou jigs, under a float or free. Though I think I've been saying that for 20 years
  20. This proves that the 80/20 rule of economics extends to the fishing world. In my case it depends where I’m fishing, shallower lakes and rivers I’d have to say more than 80% were on either a Ned or a 1/8 jig and Keitech 3” Fat Impact with a 5” Yum Dinger bringing up the rear. Deep clear reservoirs, drop shot and a max scent flatworm.
  21. Unfortunately my main winter project is rehabbing my shoulder. I believe that I damaged it on my last camping\fishing trip where I misjudged the strength of the tide coming back to the launch. This was in a saltwater inlet on the end of a super moon tide, where a normal 30 minute paddle took 2 hrs of constant paddling which included actually going backwards into a shoal area. It was the first time being scared that this might not end well in 20 years of fishing in a kayak. My son was with me and even asked if channel 16 was the correct channel for calling the Coast Guard. Anyway, my wife was concerned because I did call a Dr and made an appointment. X-rays and a series of movement tests suggested it was a torn rotator. Dr said due to my age (72) that surgery would be the last option, that recovery would take a long time and a strong possibility that it would not take anyway. I told the Dr that unlike the Rolling Stones, time was not on my side. I did get a cortisone shot while there. So off to PT, which I’ve been doing now for a couple of weeks. I’ve been working out for years with my focus on exercises related to paddling a kayak and strength for being able to load and unload the kayak off the roof of my car. I realized that I messed up my shoulder and it wouldn’t just go away when I couldn’t even bench press with an unweighted bar.
