  1. Right now the weather is perfect for taking that yak out to hopefully get on some bass but all the lakes around where I live (Hot Springs) such as a Ouachita, Hamilton, Greeson, are pretty big and seem daunting to just a 12 ft kayak. Any small lakes around Hot Springs or particular parts of the lakes I mentioned that are good for kayak fishing? All help is appreciated!
  2. Hi, I use 17 lb seaguar invizx fluorocarbon on my main texas rig and jig setup. When I first put it on, it looks as a fluorocarbon should, as it's transparent and shiny. However, I've noticed on multiple occasions after fishing with the setup for a few trips, I notice the line becomes almost kind of translucent or even opaque, and when i pull the drag, it digs down into the spool rather than coming off easily. I store my rods in a cool dark place so I wouldn't think that too much light or heat has anything to do with this. I would like to know what is happening and how I can prevent or fix it Thanks and have a good day
  3. I fish a lake frequently that has a lot of docks, as well as some good deep structure. Which do the bass prefer doing the summer? Also it's a hill-land reservior. Thanks
  4. I want to fish lake Nimrod and I know nothing about it or how good it is. Any help or tips would be appreciated. Thanks
  5. I've never really been good at eliminating water to fish. Of course if bass are relating to main lake points then they aren't going to be on every point on the lake. But how do I determine which points are the best to fish? Or which spots are best in general? I've heard that creek channels near any structure that bass are relating to that time of year. If that is true then how come I've caught bass that are completely on the other side of the lake that the creek channel is on. I would just like some clarity and tips for eliminating water and determining the best spots. Thanks
  6. It depends, I like to run over a spot and if i see some good structure or graph some fish I will try and use a bait like a jig to slowly fish it. However if i am fishing a large area i know little of I'll start with a fast moving bait and slow down if I'm not getting bites, and then move somewhat quickly. But that's just what I do.
  7. That's pretty much what I was thinking but I was looking for some outside perspective, thanks
  8. Right now on my favorite lake the bass are relating to main lake humps and points and feeding on shad and crawfish, as a normal summer bass does. Before I start fishing a point, I like to slowly (1-2 mph) drive over the point or hump, following the contour of it, and graph some fish so I can get an idea of where they are, how many, how big, and what to throw. I usually have some decent success doing this and I have caught some big ones no doubt, but I am wondering if the boat slowly going over them or the noise scares some potential giants away. By the way the lake I am fishing has a fairly large amount of pressure and a lot of boat traffic, most of it not being fishing boats. Also the average visibility is around 6-7 feet. I would like to know what ya'll think about this Thanks and have a good day
  9. I have a bass tracker pro team 175 TXW with a 25 hp 4 stroke mercury for small private lakes with a horsepower limit. However, for the larger lakes I prefer to fish more I want a larger motor so I can get above 20 mph top speed. I want to get a 75 hp 4 stroke mercury. Should I buy a used motor or get a new one, hoe much would a used one vs a new one cost, and how much would a boat dealer charge to install the new motor into my boat? Thanks and have a good day
  10. I was told that bass never move out of a 1 acre by 1 acre area their entire lives. However lately I have been catching schooling bass in the middle of a deep rocky reservoir, miles from any ample spawning grounds. I'm beginning to think that the 1 acre by 1 acre theory isn't true. Also, if any of ya'll know how far bass typically move after spawn I would be glad to know. Thanks you and god bless
  11. Thanks for the very thorough response, like I said, I've never lost any treble hooked fish when using braid for the simple fact that I play the fish rather than horse it to the boat. Thanks again for the helpful response.
  12. I'm trying to make a topwater and jerkbait setup that includes the typical medium fast rod and a 6.8:1 reel. I want to use braid as I throw spooks in open water quite frequently and I like braid as I can twitch it on very long casts and I don't have to set the hook when they hit it 35+ yards out. However, I'm not sure about using jerkbaits with braid. It doesn't seem much different than using braid with topwater, and I've never had the treble hooks rip out of a topwater fish. I've read a few articles talking about the pros of using braid with jerkbaits. I would use 25-30 lb braid and a 6- 6 1/2 foot 8 lb fluorocarbon leader. What are y'all's opinions on using braid for jerkbaits? Thanks
  13. A few months ago I'm mid march my friend and I caught quite a few good smallmouth in gulpha creek in hot Springs Arkansas. We returned a few weeks later expecting to catch some more good smallies but we were shut out. The creek is probably 40-50 yards wide where we were fishing and we were catching them in creek channel of sorts that went from the regular depth of 3 feet to roughly 6 feet. The smallmouth couldn't have moved torwards the lake because the lake cannot hold smallmouth and we went as far up the creek as we could but past the or where we caught them, it gets far too shallow to hold fish. There are some deep pools that could hold them but the smallmouth could only get to them if it was high water, which is a possibility. We are just trying to figure out where the smallmouth went. Thanks
