You just have to find the balance between the braking systems. I have two of the internal brakes on and two off. Then I adjust the spool tension to where the lure barely falls. Then I make a cast and keep doing that until it feels like I'm going to backlash when I make a cast. From there it's just fine tuned spool tension and external brake adjustments until you get it just how you like it.
I have fished all of the above and they are all excellent reels. There is an obvious step up in quality from the CT to the SV. The reel feels more refined and solid.
With that being said I prefer the Curado K over them all. They are a bit harder to calibrate but once you do they are amazing. Very smooth and the casting distance is excellent, as with all of the others.
For whatever reason I'm brand loyal in almost every area of my life. I like consistency.
I have about 3/4 Dobyns and 1/4 G. Loomis rods. I have a few random rods thrown in (Daiwa, Shimano, etc).
I've recently moved primarily to 15# Abrazx but I'll tell you if you don't want to worry about your line use Yozuri Hybrid in 12#. That stuff is a little thicker than most comparable sizes but it's rock solid. It's plenty sensitive and very manageable.
I throw my 110's now on a Dobyn's Champ XP 734C with a Chronarch MGL XG. I really like the setup. Not sure I would like it for walking baits though.
I don't have any experience with the Expride's but I do with the Zodias. I really like the Zodias so I imagine the Expride to be that much better.
I threw 50# Seaguar Flippin' braid with a 17# invisx leader for a while. Connected the lines with a uni to uni. Broke off a few times before I figured out how to tie it right. When I'd get hung the leader knot never broke.
Currently trying out straight 20# fluoro.
I received the NRX last night. All I can say is WOW. It is so light. I've paired with a Shimano Aldebaran and it balances out very well.
I can't wait to fish it but the initial impression is amazing. I'm already wanting to get another!
I probably won't get to fish it until the middle of next week.
