  1. I have one and I love it. It's a great reel for the price. I haven't done a ton of fishing with it but I've been using it for my deep crank reel and it really does make it easier on your arms. Not sure how it would do for swimbaits but I'm sure it would be fine. No real cons yet but I haven't had it long enough to say.
  2. I use the Abu Orra Winch and I was actually very surprised with the performance at this price point. Feels like a much higher end reel and I think I ended up paying $89. Still waiting on my Vertias Winch 7'11' XH as I've been using a rod not rated for the lure size.
  3. Thanks guys, I went ahead an ordered one.
  4. Don't mean to high jack but I don't want to create a new thread for this. I'm thinking about picking up one of the Winch 2.0 7'11" XH for deep cranking (8xd's, 10xd's, etc). Does anyone have experience with this particular model? I have a Veritas MH-F for my jig rod and it definitely feels more on the heavy side, which I'm aware these rods do. I'm just concerned about this rod actually loading up because I feel like it will be a broomstick.
  5. I've recently bought quite a few items from American Fishing Legacy. I think they are great. Great product and really fast shipping.
  6. This is all you need to do
  7. Wal-Mart had all the gammy hooks for $.75! I bought somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 packs. 3/0, 4/0, 5/0, 3/0 weighted -- all offset ewg, some super wire (? I think) Got a SK buzz bait for $1 (Bleeding shad), a Hackney jig for $.75. A bunch of stuff on clearance. A local Facebook group had a bunch of people getting the KVD 1.5 squarebills for $1, they were all out. Looks like they are not going to carry them and have added a ton of Mustad.
  8. I noticed during the Black Friday/Christmas sale it seemed like most of the items were store brand. Most of the things that I was interested in (Carbonlites) where hardly reduced. Is the spring sale typically really good? I just got back into fishing about 5-6 months ago and hadn't fished regularly in 15 years or so.
  9. I'm looking to pick a line spooler up. Anyone have any great products they use? My current setup is placing the spool in between the flour and sugar containers and putting the knife block in front of that. Works pretty well.
  10. 8:1 - only to get it back faster, you're just working the bait with your rod and reeling the slack
  11. I went with the Curado 70xg. Picked it up on ebay for $170. Thanks for all the feedback.
  12. Do you guys usually do like 1/2 and 1/2 for the backing? Fill up half the spool with mono and half flouro?
  13. That's what I thought and that's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
  14. Recently purchased a Zillion TWS (from the sale on TW) and made a post about issues with my knot hitting guides and the TWS. The consensus was to shorten the leader, so that's what I did. I'm thinking about trying a smaller knot I was using uni to uni 30# braid to 12# flouro.
  15. I really want to get a Curado 70xg but I have an opportunity to get a 13 Fishing for a good price ($150). I just wanted to gauge y'alls opinion and take a shot in the dark that maybe someone has both. I really don't know much about 13 other than what I've read and seen on the internet, but they seem to be relatively highly regarded. Shimano's reputation is what it is. I want the Curado primarily for pitching' and I'd prob use the 13 for the same. My wife will not be happy if I get both. Any insight is much appreciated. I'm new to this forum but I've really learned a lot and appreciate your time.
  16. Dobyn's Fury 705CB Sorry read that wrong and thought you were asking about rods I throw mine on a Lew's Tourney MB 6.8:1
  17. Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I think I'll try shortening up the leader and tying and Albright knot.
  18. Hi guys, just a quick question. I've been experimenting with braid to a flouro leader for a few different presentations where I was fishing straight flouro (cranks, soft plastics, etc.). A quick youtube search and I learned to tie the uni to uni knot. The problem I'm having is the knot hitting the guides and even feeding through the eye of the reel. Most of my sticks have micro guides which I'm assuming is the problem. I wanted to pick y'alls brain for any tips you might have to prevent this. It is affecting casting distance and it just feels a little weird. EDIT: I'm using 30# braid to 12# flouro leader What do you guys do to keep this from happening? Thanks and Merry Christmas!
  19. Thanks, for the response. I've been using a 6.8:1 and the deep divers really wear out my forearm and hands. I don't have anything in the 5:1 range so I'll look into picking something up and trying it out. Seems to me the common practice is to have a slower gear ratio for cranks.
  20. I can't wrap my mind around why a slower gear ratio reel is better for cranking. My mind tells me a reel that reels more line per turn would make it easier. What about a slower gear ration makes it easier? *Long time reader, this is my first post. Thanks!
