  • About Me
I fished a lot when I was in school in Alabama. I had a friend who liked to bass fish, and we would go pretty often. 30 years later, I'm ready to take up fishing again. I like any kind of fishing, but bass fishing has always appealed to me. I recently bought a used Tracker boat, so I'm getting ready to fish.

  1. Ditto. Our friend, Glenn May recommends this in one of his videos. It works for me and makes changing out lures easier, too.
  2. I use scissors, but I have to have tension on the braid when I cut it, or the tip of the braid frays. This is a challenge when you have a short tag end.
  3. Hotdawg put us on the fish! Mostly smallies, but a few largemouth like this one 5 pounder and a number of keeper Walleyes. https://www.hotdawgguideservice.com
  4. Are you talking about the KLX Feel N Reel Series? Do you mean 6'8"? I can't find your exact rod on TWH.
  5. New personal best. Unfortunately, I left the scale at home, so I'll just have to catch another one to weigh it! Pickwick Dam, TN, 11/28/2018.
  6. I think most people will say 12# or heavier fluorocarbon, but I use 15# braid with about 6 feet of 8# fluoro leader, and it works for me, at least with the mid-range jerk bait like the KVD 300. But then I use the same line with most of my bait casting rigs. I just like the castability and sensitivity of braid.
  7. I bought the Berkley yesterday, and I really like the way it's setup. Good for baitcasting and spinning reels, stores compactly and wasn't too outrageously expensive ($30 at BPS). I've used the kind that clips onto your rod, and I hated that one.
  8. Thanks for the offer, Pete. I may take you up on it. I'll let you know ahead of time if I'll do that. I have #33 in the state park campground. I don't think i'll have a problem because my camper is only about 27 feet long, a travel trailer. Kent (Roadwarrior here) offered to drive my boat over for me, but this might be simpler if I could go a week ahead of time. Then he could bring it back to Memphis, and I wouldn't have to make 2 trips to get it home or leave it at your place again. Thanks, Jerry
  9. The Eye Surrender website has some polarized readers that I'm considering for $80. They have a cheaper version sunglasses/reader at a local BPS around $30, but these sound like better quality.
  10. Those look very nice. You have the artist's touch.
  11. I sent you a PM. It looks like there are people in the Memphis, Germantown, north Mississippi area who could use fishing buddies. I drove to Pickwick and back today because it was pretty nice weather, and I wanted to get a little more experience with my boat and new fish finder. I could sure use some pointers from some more experienced guys. I have a fair number of days off during the week and I don't talk too much, so I won't get on your nerves. Anybody that wants to go along with me can message me. Jerry
  12. Very nice. About what would it cost to turn out a 10 X 15 painting?
  13. Just made my campground reservations, so I'm coming. I may or may not bring my boat. It would require two trips to pickwick each way since I can't tow my boat behind my bumper-pull camper. Maybe I could take it over the week before. Whatever, I'll work out the details later.
  14. So, maybe I'll put a 53 CV by the console and the larger 73 SV up front by the trolling motor.
  15. I just purchased a used 2011 Tracker Pro Team 175 TXW. I'm considering upgrading the two Lowrance fish-finders to new units. I'm looking at the Garmin echoMAP CHIRP 53 CV. I like the map features of this unit. I'm thinking about putting one at the console and one forward by the trolling motor. I understand that both transducers will need to be mounted on the transom because of the side view feature. I'm fairly tech savvy, but I'll admit to being in unfamiliar waters here (pun intended). Any advice, opinions or possible pitfalls in doing this would be appreciated.
