  1. The product is Lakemaster. It is owned by the same company that owns Humminbird and Minnkota--Johnson Outdoors. For Navionics mapping, your unit is compatable with Navionics Hotmaps Premium in a regional coverage and Navionics+ which is no mapping included--you choose what waters to download to the card anywhere in the country up to 2GB of data..
  2. #1. Get a XP 9 20 transducer for shoot-thru. #2. Attach the SI transducer below the right side engine mount bolts with the bottom of the transducer mount even with the bottom of the transom so the transducer hangs below the transom (where the engine is bolted to the hull). To the left of the temperature sensor. #3. Attach the two transducers to the display with the AS SIDB Y cable. The 2D sonar will come from the shoot-thru all the time and SI/DI/Temp will come from the SI transducer all the time. That is the proper installation for your hull.
  3. Have you called Humminbird about that issue? Have you checked your Humminbird account for a new software version?
  4. Yes, but a couple are not very sharp. Those were done while I was learning to use the equipment. I am sort of used to getting good images now. This is a recent one done with the unit the last image was taken with. It doesn't have a channel bend though, just the channel. The lines on the bottom are vehicle tracks made during lake construction.
  5. There are 6 channel swings (changes in direction) in this image.
  6. I check along the creek channel path: When I see fish in the creek or relating to the creek, then I fish for them.:
  7. Since you have the foot pedal tray, the best mount to attach the unit mount to is the KicknBass bridge bracket or similar
  8. Yes you can use Navionics software with the 899---- Navionics Hotmaps Premium and Navionics+ You can't use the extra features of the Navionics Hotmaps Platinum. Correct that the Navionics cards do not have the iPilot Link feature or most of the other Lakemaster features. BTW there is a sale on the 360 units going on now $500 off---Universal Mania is the source.
  9. Centered on the bow is the best location for viewing while fishing on either side of the boat.
  10. Yes, the iPilot Link and the 360 are Ethernet accessories. You would need the 5-port Ethernet Hub AS ETH 5PS to connect all of it together. The 899 would need the Ethernet adaptor AS EC QDE.
  11. BTW, while you are figuring out stuff, the shaft diameter is 1 1/8" and the Ethernet cord and power cord are 8' long plus the power connection has a extra 6' of wire with a quick disconnect plug. So if the 360 pole is too short, just extend it with a tube/conduit/pvc pipe with an inside diameter of 1 1/8". Then size the mount for the extension.
  12. The transducer/shaft is about 2#-3# without the mount bracket. The mount bracket is very heavy for aluminum. The UPS label states shipping weight is 12#
  13. The deal with a 360 is you have to have a deploy system. The bow 360 is attached to the trolling motor shaft that has a folding mount. The transom 360 has its own powered deploy system. An electric steer motor has no deploy system other than man handling the motor to raise and lowering it and the mount is all stationary. One could invent a bow bracket for the bow 360 that could be retracted. A folding trolling motor mount used with cable steer motors could be modified for that purpose. The main thing to consider is the length of the bow 360. The shaft length is 21' and the total length is 27" including the transducer on the end of the shaft. Your boat's freeboard would have to be figured in to have the reach to get the transducer submerged. If I had an electric steer motor and wanted the bow 360, I would make my own deploy system. When I was dealing with trolling motor RFI, I made a bow bracket for the SI transducer so I could use SI at the bow until I got that resolved. I was discussing that unit with an ice fisherman recently. His deploy system will be his hand to get the transducer below the ice. I have seen a picture of the transom 360 mounted to an ATV for ice fishing. Where there is a will, there is a way.
  14. If you want a bow 360 with a flush mount SI unit at the bow, you had best hurry with your purchase. The 798ci HD SI Combo has been discontinued and there is no replacement for that size unit that is Ethernet capable. The 360 is an Ethernet accessory. Not only that, you cannot use a bow 360 with an electric steer trolling motor--iPilot models. The 360 clamps to the non-rotating upper shaft of a cable steer Minnkota. It can be adapted to fit a Motor Guide cable steer motor-I have that setup.
  15. I have the TFO Tactical 7' 11" Mag H swimbait rod for umbrella rigs. Very light for its size.
  16. Yes a SI transducer has to be exterally mounted. IF you can still find a 798 in any of the three versions, (they are discontinued), it can be installed with the SI transducer on the transom, a shoot-thru 2D transducer XP 9 20 and the two transducers connected to the 798 display with the AS SIDB Y cable. If you get the 798ci HD SI, you can connect it and the two other units together with Ethernet and use the transom SI setup or the trolling motor SI transducer to be used by either SI unit. All of them can share GPS data. BTW, the DI transducer can be installed as a shoot-thru. If you need more details, just PM or email me. I am very familiar with setups like you are considering.
  17. A traditional sonar will indicate the depth and bottom shape as you navigate. It will also show "stuff" that is in the water column. You can get a basic unit for less than $100. Humminbird PiranhaMAX 143 Humminbird PiranhaMAX 153 Humminbird PiranhaMAX 165 Humminbird PiranhaMAX 175 Increase your budget and you can get more performance and technology. What "structure" do you want to see and how do want it displayed? This images shows three technologies. Lower left is traditional 2D sonar Upper left is Down Imaging Right side is Side Imaging. From top to bottom of the above list, the price range increases:
  18. You are correct, I only have 4 years of experience doing recordings and snapshots. About 200 recordings so far. The 981 has a very slow processor compared to models after that one. Software versions are past 6.000 now. The 981 has been left in the dust as far as capabilities and processing. They were 2005/2006 models.. BTW, Rickard is in Sweden and that post was from 2011 and his unit was already two generations old.
  19. I use the SanDisk Extreme in my 798. The write time is faster so you can take consecutive screen shots with less delay. Been saving screen shots and recording since November 2009. Class 10 cards are recommended by their Pro Staff. Humminbird units can use up to a 32 GB size card. I tend to use smaller size cards for screen shots when not recording--takes less time to format them.
  20. Digital video camera Smartphone Police Body Camera
  21. It is less harmful to them than being thrown in the hot oil of a frying pan.
  22. No. the 598 is not linkable to share data with any connection. That is why it is a lower cost than the 798 The 998 does not have an internal GPS antenna--neither one of them, it is shipped with an external GPS antenna--AS GRP or AS GR-50.. The 598 has an internal GPS antenna..
  23. Smith Mt for smallmouth in mid April, Kerr in early May, and Smith Mt in late May for largemouth.
  24. In the 1970's, bass in the 30# class were caught by commercial fishermen on Lake Jojoa, in Honduras. That resulted in a lot trips there to fish for them. No angler ever caught one larger than the world record though. Look it up.
