  1. The Motor Guide internal transducer is a Lowrance. So you want to change from Lowrance to Lowrance that is the same but different style?
  2. The unit reads the map card you have in the unit automatically and displays it in the Chart view. You would only have that single location to view. If you remove that card, you will get the built-in Uni-map.
  3. Yes, just start up the unit in Normal or Simulator, select the Chart view, then push the 4-way button, and move the map curser to the location you want to check. Push Exit when you are finished.
  4. DId you adapt the transom transducer or purchase the proper trolling motor transducer for your installation?
  5. I know several that use both brands, typically the Lowrance at the console and Humminbird at the bow. For all of my Humminbird Side Imaging units when fishing, I use Amber 1 for bright conditions and Brown for dark conditions. I may use other colors depending on the subject. I rarely use the Blue pallet, mostly to demonstrate why I don't use it. Color is a personal preference and one may work the best for you and not for someone else. You have lots of color choices, take the time to go through all of them to see which one displays what you want to see how you want to see it. Not only the color choice but the settings that work the best with those colors has to be determined.
  6. Post a unit screen snapshot of what the unit is doing when you get "noise feedback".
  7. For a Lowrance to have Side Scan and Down Scan, it has to have the long Structure Scan transducer and a 2D transducer too. As you know, the Humminbird SI units do Side Imaging, Down Imaging, and 2D sonar with a single transducer. The display sizes are equal with the 798 having almost double the pixel density= sharper images. The Lowrance will have better Down Scan than Humminbird's Down Imaging since the L has a dedicated Down Scan crystal and the H gets Down Imaging by blending the two Side Imaging pulses. The H will have better Side Imaging especially in shallow water, than the L Side Scan. The L will do better for 2D sonar for an inexperienced user since it is somewhat idiot proof. The H is more user adjustable for the detail you want. They cannot be linked to share data. The operation menus are very different. Both can use Navionics map software. Bottom line is they are somewhat equal but do different functions better than the other.
  8. Yes you can use a shoot-thru transducer on an aluminum boat. Vexilar has one called Alumaducer and is specifically made for that purpose.
  9. A proficient fisherman has his bow unit's transducer attached to the bottom of the bow trolling motor. For removal convenience, the transducer on a transom motor is preferred also
  10. Not only that, if you need a replacement, there are a lot of Walmart stores and may be close to where you need that replacement.
  11. If you don't have a Humminbird, yes turn off the fish icons. If you have a Humminbird unit, USE FishID. It is a REAL and valuable fishing tool. I have already demonstrated its value with some of the screen shots above.
  12. Try connecting the NEGATIVE ( - ) battery terminals together with a 18 guage or 16 guage wire. That is called a ground loop and is one of the possible remedies for RFI.
  13. What sonar unit? What brand/model trolling motor? What power source?
  14. RFI has nothing to do with sonar pulse echos.
  15. No, that adaptor is to connect the built in transducer to a Humminbird unit. It has a Humminbird plug, not a Lowrance plug.
  16. While I was testing the Sonarphone with the Navionics Sonar Charts Live Android version, I did a few tracks with the Humminbird ONIX and Autochart Live. This is Autochart Live overlayed on Sonar Charts.
  17. The fibers in superline cannot be colored, just coated. That is why they fade. White is the natural color.
  18. BTW, there is no "one size fits all". Each installation is unique even if the trolling motor is the same model made the same day. On high speed, the digital speed control is not used, That digital control is commonly the source of the RFI. So is a bent prop shaft, out of balance prop, or misaligned motor case. It took me a couple of months to resolve it when I had it.
  19. START by contacting Humminbird Customer Service for help with your RFI issue. They have the experience with that issue since using a Side Imaging transducer on a trolling motor is very common. You have four frequencies that the trolling motor can affect. Yours is broadcasting on one or more of them.
  20. As long as you are not moving and the wind is not blowing, it works OK when you stay in the cloud of repellant. But any movement, and you will loose the "cloud of protection". I have one and used it one time bass fishing at night on my boat. It is a dismal failure for that application.
  21. The issue with those are it takes too long for them to die.
  22. I have sprayed OFF insect repellent with DEET directly on Flukes to test the myth. It is a myth. Same with sunscreen, used Coppertone Sport sunscreen 50 SPF-that is a myth also. Worked as good as some well known "fish attractants".
  23. The factory that burned down was in Stuart, South Carolina.
  24. I was there Friday. Caught a couple of bass on beds. Did not catch any large ones. Did have a total of 63 bass though. A couple of pickerel too. On the way back to the ramp, I saw a large area with spawning bluegills on Side Imaging. I put on a 1/16 oz. Roadrunner and caught a couple dozen larger than hand size.
  25. A somewhat old discontinued brand--referred to as "Vintage". I have a couple of Kunan baitcasting rods and a flyrod. I use the variable length baitcaster occasionally. Did have a couple of the Boron versions that exploded "way back when". If you are happy with your purchase, you are OK. Some are on Ebay. The factory burned down in about 1990.
