  1. Those that are made for 18-22 gauge wire. They have a red plastic insulator.
  2. You are correct, that it is stated in the Humminbird installation instructions, BUT that refers to INBOARD craft with the prop forward of the transom. You did good and actually read the instructions, a lot don't.
  3. Use whatever fits the battery box. Makes no difference. Most use crimp on terminals. Walmart, Auto Zone, Advanced Auto Parts, ect.
  4. Prop turbulence?????????????? Water has already passed over the transducer before it is affected by the prop. It is impossible to get "prop turbulence" from an outboard unless the motor is in reverse. The water coming off the hull is what affects the transducer's performance. Which side of the outboard makes no difference. If a transducer is within the diameter of the prop, and is used for high speed depth readings, the aeration it creates can cause prop cavitation and engine cooling issues. For an INBOARD type boat, yes the location will be affected by the prop turbulence.
  5. You have it in one of the places to NOT put it. Inline with a hull strake. Move it to the right about 6 inches.
  6. Big water, big waves take a longer shaft. That extra 7" will appear to take up a lot more space than just 7".
  7. What Sonar Charts does: Before: After: Another Before without even a shoreline: After:
  8. The boats come with 45" shaft trolling motors.
  9. I have a 597ci HD DI Combo registered in my Humminbird account to have access to the unit software for one of my brother-in-laws. Register yours so you get the software updates.
  10. I use 40# Daiwa Samurai in Yellow. It is 8# mono equivalent diameter--same as most 30# superlines. If I add a leader, it is 20# fluorocarbon of about 3'-4' in length. I use it for weight to overcome the floating tendency of superline. I prefer the highest gear ratio spinning reels. I use Shimano 1000 and 2500 sizes depending on the rod length. There are several price ranges to choose from.
  11. The price is excellent. Basically you are getting two units for less than the cost of two DI transducers.
  12. For the Side Imaging transducer along with a shoot-thru, the Side Imaging transducer should be just below the right side engine mount bolts at the same level as in your picture. That places it as close to the hull centerline as possible without being contacted by the outboard. Your present transducer is crooked. Don't do that again. Also in that location it has no water contact when on plane and is impossible to give you any depth/imaging data. You connect the two transducers to the display with the AS SIDB Y cable. That cable disconnects the 83/200 kHz 2D crystal in the SI transducer and connects the shoot-thru 83/200 kHz transducer in its place. The plug that attaches to the display is the same one that the SI transducer has so there is no menu changes needed. DI with a core unit Side Imaging unit is the same as SI. The sonar data is blended and reoriented using the data from the SI crystals. Only the ONIX and ION have a dedicated Down Imaging crystal in the SI transducer.
  13. That location is OK as long as you are sitting still or at slow idle speed. If you want on-plane depth readings it has to be at the BOTTOM of the hull either on the exterior or as a shoot-thru.
  14. Yes you can transfer GPS data via memory card. The display has the highest resolution in the industry. It's the top of the line DI unit that is non linkable and discontinued when the 600 series was added to Hummunbird's inventory.
  15. Navionics Sonar Charts. It is free with Navionics+ and Hotmaps Platinum cards. You can view the current maps on the Navionics website's Web App.
  16. You have a transducer installation issue. The transducer has to have water contact and that water has to be turbulent/air free. Post a picture of your transducer installation from a few different angles to critique.
  17. Sound Bite is the name of the product. Endorsed by Bill Dance over 15 years ago. Google is your friend. Two jigs and two in-line "weights" that looked like Carolina rig egg sinkers. They make a clicking sound when wet.
  18. FYI, With the Demo Simulator, you can practice all the unit functions like creating waypoints, taking snapshots, changing settings BUT nothing is saved in the unit's memory. If you want anything saved, you have to use the real Simulator, buy selecting it in the start up menu. Then you can go to the Setup menu and change Demonstration from Visible to OFF. If you try to create waypoints that you really want to save, it will not happen in the Demonstration Simulator where you push Exit after the Demo is running. None of your settings will be saved either. You can choose to ignore the above if you want. You have the information to operate your unit correctly.
  19. You won't have that problem if you use the cable collector properly.
  20. Don't need a picture. I sometimes have four units on/near my desk. ALL of mine have Demonstation turned OFF and I never get the Demonstration function. If I don't select Simulator when the unit starts up, it goes to the dialog page and after pushing the EXIT button, it goes to Normal operation with the Snapshot view and no sonar data to view with my 1198's. The 798 and ONIX with internal GPS antennas will have the Snaphot view and Chart view functioning but no data to display for sonar. Check your Setup Menu. The only time I see the Demonstration function is at a store with units on display. I don't want my units with that function. In Demonstation, no settings that are changed will be saved, no waypoints created will be saved, NOTHING will be saved. That is the whole point with that function so customers won't screw up the units pushing buttons.
  21. If Demonstration is turned off, it will not turn itself on when no transducer is connected. It will start up in Simulator, Demonstration only functions when it is turned on in the Setup menu. There is no need to ever have Demonstation turned on unless the unit is on display to be sold. Demonstration goes through all the views automatically.
  22. Better yet is to turn Demonstration mode OFF and use Simulator. That way any settings you make that you want saved will be.
  23. No, I prefer the Sound Bite Lures.
  24. I fished Thursday in those conditions. I used weedless wacky rigged finesse worms in the 12'-17' depth range. Only caught 44 bass. This is one of them:
