  1. It sounds like you do not have the transducer mounted properly in/on your boat. Solve your improper installation and you won't need another unit for depth readings.
  2. Once I got rid of the crappy Vanish and started using the BPS XPS Fluorocarbon, I don't need to search for another brand.
  3. If I could find some larger ones, I'd use them. I don't like for the bait to take up a lot of the hook bend. I have some of the 5.5 size and the 5/0 is not big enough for those in my opinion. I use the 5/0 for a Super Fluke and sometimes I use the 5/0 Superline hook when I am fishing a lake with a potential for a 10# + bass. After all I am fishing for LARGEmouth bass so a large hook is appropriate.
  4. The video at this site utilizes a non weighted hook---http://www.lftlures.com/ For a weedless/weightless presentation, I recommend the Gamakatsu G-Lock in 5/0. That hook has a large enough bend that the bulk of the bait will not overcome it's hooking ability and the shorter hook shank fits within the limited length of the bait head. I am assuming you are referring to the Lake Fork Live Magic Shad. The previous mentioned hooks with the weight and spring or spike attachment are a little too long for the bait head. Falcon has a weighted version of the G-Lock, but insertion is a bit tricky to limit damage during the process. I install that hook before I tie the line on by pushing the eye into the bait first. http://www.fishingworld.com/FalconLures/Details.tmpl?ID=1028423419896244&Cart=119577428420269327&SKU=55%20G-LOCK
  5. I use the Stren Super Braid in the gold color and the Spiderwire Stealth in the yellow color for wacky worming in all water conditions. I also use a fluorocarbon leader with each to make them sink.
  6. This is the hook for that bait.
  7. Next KVD, don't worry about having gasoline smell on your hands. According to the "experts", the fish can not smell it.
  8. It's no big deal. The earth has had global warming cycles between ice ages long before humans supposedly made an impact on the climate.
  9. This is a finesse worm with the 2/0 Octopus hook rigged both ways.
  10. mayassa, it looks the same from both sides and is on top of the worm in the picture. It is basically Texas rigged in the middle using a Gamakatsu 3/0 Octopus hook #02413. I use a 2/0 #02412 when fishing a finesse worm. The black ring is a recent modification I started using this year for fishing in timber and vegetation. It is a piece of 1/4" electrical shrink tubing. It keeps the hook eye from pulling out and also allows for a more forcefull cast like when using baitcasting tackle. I mainly use spinning gear. If I can get away with it in snag free waters, I will rig it exposed point with the same hooks. A friend of mine in Texas put an article on his website about the rigging: http://mysite.verizon.net/restmvit/wacky.html
  11. I fish Trick and Finesse worms this way. Color does not matter to the fish. What I look for is the colors that contain the most flakes as it makes them softer for better hook penetration. The white one in the picture is just for illustration only even though I use that color or brighter ones when bed fishing. I fish this rig from the surface to 30', just dead sticking it-no twitches, jerks. I just let it fall to the bottom, let it set for a couple of seconds and then move it about a foot to let it fall again. It's the fall that attracts them the most. I'll add a nail weight for deep presentations, in wind, or current. It works in Texas, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, and Tennesse. Those states are the only ones I have fished. Occasionally I'll use those baits on a shakey head, but 95% of the time it's weedless wacky.
  12. Avid, you can save any position including where you catch every fish. There is no menu item to record fish size, but the waypoint (location) number can be changed to the size. You can't duplicate waypoint names but you can be creative in your naming of the waypoints to make identical weights a little different like putting a sequential number or letter before or after the weight. Having a lot of waypoints names for the same location or very close to each other will be difficult if not impossible to view each one separately.
  13. Team_Dougherty, good suggestion. Reverse polarity at the plug would definitely cause it not to work.
  14. Three possible causes. 1. If the lighter socket has been used for it's intended purpose (lighting cigaretts) there might be corrosion on the contacts. 2. The fuse to the socket my be blown. 3. Your ignition switch may have to be on to provide power to the socket.
  15. After deer season ends, I start fishing again. There is always some non-frozen water somewhere-like the Anna hot side and a N.C. power plant lake-Hyco. I hasn't been cold enough in the recent winters to freeze many lakes and rivers.
  16. It's all BS-check this site: http://www.snopes.com/photos/humor/batteryhack.asp
  17. The catching was pretty decent yesterday, but we were one bass short of the 10 bass limit for each team of three anglers. We had several bass break off and pull off but caught fish just about everywhere we tried. The event started late due to fog and ended at 1:30. I fished with the same two kids that I did last year when we won, and we won again this year. I was great seeing all those kids participating with the freezing temps early in the morning.
  18. I use that hook for Super Flukes in the 5/0 size. I take a small knitting needle, push it into the belly slit and out through the nose. I then hook my line on the needle and pull it though the head and then tie on the hook. After tying on the hook, I pull the hook eye into the bait head and Txpose the hook point. I can catch numerous bass without it being torn up as most of the time the Fluke just slides up the line while fighting the fish. It may take more time than tying the hook on first but the bait lasts a lot longer and pulling the offset part through using non-weighted hook pre-tied does more damage than the way I do it.
  19. I have the Lowrance H2O and I use the Navionics Hotmaps Premium software along with some free download maps from the Lowrance website. I use the built-in background map when traveling to other states to keep up with the distance-to go-to a particular location. You won't be dissappointed if you purchase that unit or the H2Oc.
  20. It should be a typical late Fall pattern. Just find the schools of baitfish and throw a crankbait. I'll be there Sunday fishing a tournament also with a group of Jr. BASS kids out of Sturgeon Creek Marina.
  21. For Catt, especially the last paragraph Tyvek® Coverall With Hood: Protection Starts At the Top Your job calls for head and body protection in a disposable coverall. This recycled Tyvek® coverall was made for the task, with an attached hood to cover head and hair and elasticized cuffs to protect arms and legs. It's a tough, disposable coverall that keeps wet and dry particulate matter away from the skin, giving the wearer full protective coverage in a flexible, comfortable material. Our Tyvek® coveralls are available in a variety of styles including coveralls without hoods and coveralls with hood and boot. The durable Tyvek® fabric is hard to tear or puncture, yet it functions as a breathable membrane that allows body heat and sweat to escape while preventing chemicals, paints and particles from getting in.
  22. The drought allows more salt content to be further upstream in the tidal portion of the James. That may or may not be good for grass growth. It affected the vegetation when the last drought occurred about 5 years ago. Also, wasn't the higher salt content one of the contributing factors for a failed spawn that lead to restocking the Chick?

  24. rondef, Yes I did. I post fishing reports at fishingva.com. Click on Briery Creek at the main page, then choose fishing reports, and select Jan 2007. The webmaster is a little slow in sorting out report dates.
  25. I went there yesterday. The water level is not noticeably higher since the rain last week and I did not see any runoff stain at the upper end either.
