  1. Did you install the transducer correctly and did you exchange the included transducer for the HDSI model?
  2. I use them. The Pro Slider has the strongest hook so I use those where the potential for large bass and heavy cover exists. Otherwise I use the Snagless Slider heads. I swim a Slider worm. If I need another presentation, I use another rigging.
  3. Humminbird products read Navionics and Lakemaster digital map products. Wisconsin has good coverage by Lakemaster and Navionics. The regional Navionics Hotmaps Premium cards have been discontinued. The choice you have for your unit is the Navionics+ card. It has ALL the Navionics Nautical Charts for the US and Canada on it and can have your choice/s of Navionics Sonar Charts added. You can view the current maps on the Navionics website's Web App. For Lakemaster's coverage check the Humminbird Lakemaster site and download the list of waters for the region/s you want/need. Current map cards for both products are on a microSD card that fits the Helix 7 card reader.
  4. No where on the Mend-it bottle does the word "glue" appear. The website has glue in the name and that is the only reference to the word "glue". http://www.menditglue.com/
  5. I caught SOME of them with the Ned rig, some with my avatar, and some with a Slider.
  6. Yes you can use a dual beam 2D sonar transducer with a SI unit. Just change the Connected Transducer setting to Dual Beam in the Sonar main menu. The SI transducer is the standard transducer for a SI unit. It comes with the XNT 9 SI 180 T but will produce sharper images with the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T. The transom 2D transducer is the XNT 9 20 T. Always change the Connected Transducer setting to match the transducer. You can damage the unit processor by not doing that when a SI transducer is not connected.
  7. I fished there yesterday and it was tough with all the shad schools and bass following them. Only caught 29 bass. When I first got on the water and checked some areas, the shad would come to the surface all around and under my boat so I figured it was going to the tough--they are about 3" long. A couple of screen shots with the shad schools: Later I caught a few bass that were with some of the schools. Here I was jigging a Ned rig to catch them:
  8. Very good unit that will show you the difference of all the stuff you mentioned.
  9. Think about what you are requiring of a battery. You want starting power (MCA) plus you want it to function as a deep cycle battery to run your stuff when the outboard is not operating. That takes a battery with the reserve capacity and MCA to do both. A dual purpose battery is the best type for those needs.
  10. The reason the position curser changes to a O is GPS cannot determine direction unless there are consecutive track points in a direction within a certain amount of time. Other brands just have the position curser wander around on the chart view when going slow or stopped. Lowrance has a heading sensor GPS antenna also (Point 1).
  11. Helix internal GPS antenna in my den: Internal GPS for a Humminbird 798: Heading Sensor connected to Humminbird 1198:
  12. This area has a lot of trees laying on the bottom. The two waypoints are not within range of the 360 setting of 40' but the Chart shows them and where they are in relation to the boat. Just shows you can use the Heading Sensor and Casting Rings to hit your target.
  13. The threshold for the O position curser is .6 mph. The Heading Sensor eliminates that and always shows the direction the bow is pointed by rotating the map. Above .6 mph you get the Course Arrow=the direction the boat is going. The point of the Casting Rings is to position your boat on the ring and cast to the center of it. You choose what the radius of that Ring is. I use 30'. Took this screen shot while fishing a brush pile. You can see the brush pile on the 360 view and the boat's relation to the Casting Ring, waypoint, and direction the bow is pointed. Since waypoints are displayed on the 360 view, most of the time I just have that displayed and see where the waypoint is, the brush pile is, and where them fish things are:
  14. The Diehard PM-1 group 31 has been a popular one, but in not carried by Sears anymore. I think there is a Odyssey battery that is equivalent.
  15. Get the biggest dual purpose battery you have room for that has the MCA your outboard requires.
  16. I fished Briery on June 7 and June 13. Caught a total of 91 bass with several 5# and 6# class.
  17. Don't forget the Alabama rig for Sandy River. Should have a thermocline by the time you go. Fish that rig just above the thermocline where you see shad schools with your electronics. The hump out from the ramp should have fish on it since it will be just above the thermocline. As far a plastics colors, makes no difference--use whatever you like, the fish don't care. Fish the drop-offs along the created flats that are lined with cypress trees. Also the creek channel edges in the two standing timber areas. Look at the Navionics Sonar Charts map.
  18. I rarely use those spinnerbaits and never at Hunting Run. Lures I use are tied on rods laying around on the deck. A Chatterbait is the only horizontal lure I use there and that is only in March/April.
  19. Flex Seal is advertised as "Liquid Rubber Sealant Coating". http://www.mcoe.us/view/1668.pdf
  20. One more thing did you connect the power cord conductors to the correct power supply positive/negative AND connect the power cord plug to the unit with the correct polarity???? If you have polarity reversed the unit will not turn on.
  21. You cannot get the map at the check-in unless they made copies of the one I gave them. I have not seen any copies and they did not tell me they had copies. You can look at it if you ask. I printed the map and had it laminated to give to them and it was a few years ago. The current map has several corrections done from that one. Just did an update for one area a couple of weeks ago. It is a digital map via Navionics map software.
  22. No they do not broadcast at the same time, they alternate since they use the same pizeo/crystal/speaker. Set the frequency to 83/200 The DI unit has a wider 200 kHz pulse like 28 degrees
  23. 200 kHz and 83 kHz are typical sonar frequencies for most brands. The difference between the two is the coverage they have and the depth capabilities they have. The lower the frequency, the deeper the depth capabililty you get. A typical spec coverage for 200 kHz is a 20 degree somewhat inverted cone shaped sonar pulse which covers about 1/3 the depth at the bottom. Coverage for 83 kHz is spec 60 degrees or equal to the depth. Sonar is sound that is measured in decibels. The spec coverage is rated at a sound strength (loudness) that is less than the strength directly below the transducer. For Humminbirds, that spec coverage is 10 decibels less than the center of the pulse or -10db to the edge of the cone angle. The actual usable coverage is a lot more at lesser strengths, but the spec coverage is for comparing with other units. To get both of the FishID coverages, you set the unit to broadcast 83 and 200 kHz.
  24. Air/gas bubbles do get FishID symbols. If you notice the line of ID symbols at the surface of the above screenshots, those are from air bubbles created by the hull. You get less of those if you don't turn on 83 kHz, but then you won't get both coverages. When you change the FishID Sensitivity setting, you can reduce the size of the fish being detected or increase the size of the fish being detected within the parameters of the size ranges. A high setting will display all three symbols and a low setting will only display the largest symbol. I have posted these before, but here it is again. I use FishID to see if there are fish within cover that I want to try to catch. I scan this laydown each time I am at this lake. If I don't see any symbols, I don't stop to fish it. These screenshots are a few days apart. When I saw the symbols, I fished it and caught all three of them and some smaller ones that did not qualify for the symbols. If is a fishing tool that is available with Humminbirds if you want to use it, I do.
