  1. Yes you can share a single SI transducer with two or more SI units using Ethernet. You just choose the source unit (the one the transducer is connected to) in the other unit's Ethernet menu. Download the Ethernet manual from the Humminbird website. You can share the 200 kHz 2D from the 858c DI Combo with SI units also. If you had all XX9 models, all Helix models, or XX9 with Helix models, you can share any of the sonar technologies. If you want all three units to share data, that takes the AS ETH 5PXG Ethernet switch and an Ethernet cable between each unit and switch. The number of units you can share that way is unlimited.
  2. Only the ONIX/ION SI units have a dedicated Down Imaging crystal in their transducers.
  3. It's no deal if you won't use it like it is designed to. The SI unit does not have a DI sonar crystal. It creates the DI view by blending the two SI pulses.
  4. There are two Humminbird Helix 5 DI units. One with and one without GPS if you cannot use a SI unit. Less cost than the SI version.
  5. The maps are downloaded to the mobile device with the same data that is on the website. You update the device data to keep it current. My smartphones automatically do updates. I do it manually with my tablets. It is an annual subscription

  7. The subject matter does not make very distinguishable images ( weeds ). The Helix 5 SI GPS has a single Imaging frequency--455 kHz. It has an adjustable screen scroll speed to get sharp images from 0 to about 12 mph. With current software, Depth, Temp, and Speed can be overlayed on the screen for all views or just the full screen SI view. Digital can be completely turned off. The data boxes are semi-transparent when the 2D or DI view is displayed
  8. You can create shared waypoints that are called Community Edits. The symbols here are what they are: If you look at the Navionics website's Web App, they are shown there also.

I have that setup for use with Android and iOS devices. This is the Sonarphone app on an iPad: You can download the Sonarphone app free to practice with the simulator to see if you want to purchase the transducer. The dark areas are Sonar Charts Live contours overlayed on a Navionics Sonar Charts map using the Sonarphone and Navionics Boating App.

  13. All three 798's came with the XNT 9 SI 180 T transom Compact SI transducer that is about 4" long. The HDSI transducer is 6" long with longer SI crystals which produce a thinner SI pulse and sharper images.
  14. The solution is to put the transducer close to the trolling motor and tilt the motor away from the transom so the SI pulse is not blocked by the motor and can "see" past it. Otherwise attach the transducer to the bottom of the trolling motor so the SI pulses cannot see the motor. No way you can get "prop wash" unless you operate the motor in reverse with the transducer close to it. The green image is weeds.
  15. OK, see if I understand what you have. You have the transducer on the transom and are using a transom mounted trolling motor, not a bow mount trolling motor like I was guessing. If not where is the trolling motor? The trolling motor shaft will not block the image like you have, the motor itself will. You mean 16" not 16', right? I have SI transducers on my transom and bow trolling motor. BTW, this is from the 798ci SI Combo I had with the HDSI transducer on my bow trolling motor as in the previous picture.

  17. Certainly you did not attach the transducer to the trolling motor shaft with the motor blocking the left side SI pulse??????????????????? The transducer should be on the BOTTOM of the trolling motor so the SI pulses can "see" left and right all the way to the water's surface.
  18. How is the unit powered? The left side looks like you are parallel to a dropoff which doesn't get direct sonar pulses except just under the boat where it is brighter. Sonar cannot "see" around stuff. In this screenshot there is a creek channel on the right side and being so shallow, the Imaging pulses cannot record the bottom of the creek.
  19. The Helix 10 display has about 6,000 more pixels per square inch than the HDS-10. Are you using the HDSI transducer with the 798? The 798 has about four times better display resolution than the HDS-10, it has the highest display resolution in the industry for a LCR unit. If you don't see bass with the 798, you are not where they are, do not know how to operate the unit properly or don't have the transducer installed correctly. I used one of the 798 models for six years and had it setup to use at the console and bow with dual mounts, transducers, and power cords. Just sold it early this year. Look at the posted screen shots at the top of the forum. ANY Humminbird Side Imaging unit will do the same. There are some Helix 10 screen shots posted. I don't have one of those models. The Helix series is just the current version of the former number series. They do the same with the same parts. There is no new sonar feature difference.

  21. Not all waters stratify and have a thermocline. River system lakes with high flow do not. Do a site search for THERMOCLINE. It has been discussed several times here. Do a web search for THERMOCLINE so you understand what it is. I use it to determine a pattern when it forms. Makes finding and catching a lot easier.
  22. The temp sensor is on the transducer and the transducer is attached to the bottom of the trolling motor. The temp is what the water is at that depth--about 1'. The deepest they are by late summer is about 15'-20'

The map looked like this before my data was uploaded: The blue zero line Navionics map did not even exist until I supplied the data for the lake to be added to their data base. Before the Sonar Charts program started, I made a zero line for Hunting Run with Google Earth to have a reference for my waypoints:
  24. I'm being lazy here but since you guys seem to know your business, what's the PRIMARY difference between Lakemaster and Lakemaster Plus? I don't need my gps to communicate with my trolling motor, if that is a big part of it. Lake=make sure the lakes you're fishing is on the chips before you buy them. I have lakemaster and it's great when they have the HD maps with 1ft contours. not so great when its just a basic map or no map at all Lakemaster has three levels of maps. The best ones are listed as Lakemaster High Definition Survey. Those are created from surveys done by Lakemaster. Then there is High Definition Survey that can be any level of accurate with 1' contours. The Chart Select map I have is one of those and it has fake data that is impossible to exist. Then there are the others with less detail and less accurate. Edited: Lakemaster has just lakes, Lakemaster Plus has satellite overlay for HD waters like Navionics Platinum has. Both versions are current. Some Lakemaster regions are version 6 this year, Wisconsin is one of them. It is all explained on the Humminbird Lakemaster website. Check the coverage lists for each.
