  1. I'm a fan of the Buzztail Shads too. Excellent grass presentation on the tidal Potomac. Not very new, I've been using them since 2004.
  2. PMFish, I wouldn't use those lures from shore. Use a weedless rig like a Tx rigged worm or weedless wacky rigged worm. Topwater before the sun shines on the water works well too. I don't fish at the dam, I just walk down the steep hill were the boats are tied up and follow the shoreline to the right all the way to the upper lake dam (that side doesn't have the steep banks like from the dam on around to the upper lake dam). Sam there are no ponds in Charlottesville, the only fishable water is the river. Some other lakes about the same distance from town are the Rivanna Res (limited shore access), Walnut Creek Park, and just a little farther is Beaver Creek Lake (near Crozet).
  3. JCrzy4Bass, just to check the recent operation rules at Motts, I went to the Fredericksburg site to read them. Two things really stuck out. First was the max boat length allowed on the lake other than rowing skulls is 16' ( I have seen numerous 18'-21' bass boats there). Second electric motors powered by more than 11 volts are prohibited (they rent 12V motors there with 12V batteries) WTH ?????? Some idiot must have wrote the voltage rule.
  4. Lipless cranks Chatterbait Spinnerbait Buzzbait Hollow frogs Solid frogs Ribbontail worms (Tx rigged) Finesse worms (wacky and shakey head) Trick worms (wacky and Tx rigged) Senkos (Tx rigged) Swimbaits (hard and soft) Jigs Tubes Soft plastic craws Diving cranks Poppers Spooks Lizzards (Carolina rigged) Flutter Spoons Roadrunners
  5. The last time I was at Motts (before Hunting Run was opened for fishing), rentals were available.
  6. I have reels with either and both, I don't use them. The spool tension knob is all that is needed with an educated thumb.
  7. I purchase and use lures to match patterns whatever they may be at any particular location and time. I don't buy a lure and try to figure out where and how to use it.
  8. Simple, go to Hunting Run Lake, rent a boat/motor, go downlake to where the houses on the left are and start fishing the shoreline in front of them on around into the cove behind them. Use a weedless wacky rigged finesse worm. Be patient and you will get your string stretched.
  9. I agree with the others. 30# is my line choice too and I may go down to 20# for ultra-light.
  10. Yes, skunked_again the SI transducers do need protecting, they are expensive. Do you use a dual beam shoot-thru with the SI unit for on-plane use or use another sonar unit for that purpose?
  11. skunked_again, you installation will not work when on plane. The transducer has to be in the water. The correct installation is the seam on the sides of the transducer should be even with the bottom of the hull which means that the bottom of the transducer is below the hull about 1/2". The best installation is a shoot-thru either with the skimmer or a puck style transducer. The shoot thru with skimmer installation is in your manual.
  12. The switch is not listed as a option for that model on the LEI Extras site. If you want to change the connections often, use some di-electric grease on the plugs to lessen the effort and reduce the chance of damaging the pins on the unit plug receptacle.
  13. The best repair method is Mend-It Soft Bait Glue. No batteries, no chance of getting burned, no glued fingers, and no mess.
  14. The Eagle has twice the power of the Garmin and that will be better for bottom composition and showing fish. You don't need a transducer adaptor mount. A tm transducer won't cost you any extra, just exchange it for the puck style (do not open the package with the included transducer and mount parts that come with the unit). LEI Extras is the place for the exchange.
  15. Here is one of them--weedless wacky rigged finesse worm:
  16. Mount a bunch of these to the underside of the lockers: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/474957/Office-Depot-Brand-Color-Bulldog-Clip/
  17. I'll give you the same answer you got on the other site: It's not out yet,. It was due to be marketed around the middle of March. I talked to a Motor Guide service company a couple of weeks ago and they said that the release date has been delayed due to "issues" at the factory. There is no release date as of now.
  18. No necessarily, a lighter set drag works as well (maybe better). A lesser aggressive hook set is the best option.
  19. Braid is the answer. The loops coming off the spool are smaller than any mono which allows for less friction getting thru the first rod guide. 20# braid has a mono diameter equivelent of 6#. Fill the spool to within 1/8" of the lip. A smaller diameter braid will cast even farther. The KVD spray will add even more distance.
  20. Get some Mend-It soft bait glue and you can repair the torn Senkos
  21. Aluma-Bass, yes I do have a counting system.
  22. I fished there 5 times in May and caught a total of 252 bass with none over 6#. Yep, it's been kind of slow.
  23. Since your question involves fallen timber and grass beds, a minimum of 30# braid or 20# mono ( nylon or fluorocarbon ) would be my suggestion. A lesser pound test rated CXX is OK too since it is way underrated for it's actual breaking strength.
