  1. Jim, I posted about the down imaging date because you stated yesterday "the down image is going to be available for this unit for free from HB."
  2. Jim, the Down Imaging for the 797 was released this past Thursday.
  3. It is really simple to snell just about any hook if you use the uni-knot. I've done it with a EWG, an offset worm hook, a straight shank hook, an Octopus hook, and some more.
  4. I've been away from my computer all day and now when I check here, Linda's leaving hasn't gotten the attention on this site like it has on all the others I visit. To very many, she was the reason they have Lowrance products.
  5. Her son has posted some details on several web sites.
  6. You don't have to buy and add a "cheaper" line as a backing. Just don't remove all the line you use now and add new line on top of that. Learn to tie the uni-uni knot for the connection.
  7. FFD, you should have gotten a Humminbird and then you wouldn't have that problem. They are "plug and go". LOL That powered antenna deal has been a trouble shooting headache since it was incorporated. Interference with the display if too close, dead battery from being non-switched, blown fuse on the power hook-up, failure to provide power, etc. OH, didn't you know that it might not work correctly if it is closer than 3' to the display? Just one of those "omissions" in the manual that recommends the placement to avoid "possible interference".
  8. You will get those questions from anyone familiar with performance setups. I won't go into the whole explaination of those terms since a web search will do a better job than I.
  9. The Yellow Magic is "Japanese Designed", assembled in China. It states that on the lable inside the box. That could mean it is actually made in China, Mexico, Indonesia, India, etc. and then assembled in China. Kind of like a Honda is "Japanese Designed" and some are made in the USA.
  10. How are you getting the speed figure? What is your WOT rpms? What is the height of the prop shaft in relation to the pad? What is the prop pitch?
  11. It looks good to me. My choice of that unit was because of the screen resolution being the highest in the industry ( approx. 31,170 pixels per square inch). Knowing that the SI is a secondary function for fishing, I wanted a true high definition screen for 2D sonar. The next best screen resolution of any brand in any size screen is about 17,533 pixels per square inch. With only using it two times, on familar bodies of water, yes it is worth the price for that technology. Actually for image sharpness, the Lowrance HDS/LSS-1 units seem better.
  12. rubba bubba, there are some close to EWG style that have the hook point parallel with the eye offset. I got several of those models but can't remember which they are. I'll dig into my hook stock some time and post what they are.
  13. Here is the 798 SI with both sides: If you want to see it actual size. Adjust it on your computer screen to 3 5/8" X 3 5/8"
  14. I'll be checking out the Down Imaging feature tomorrow. Here is a 798 Side Imaging screen shot:
  15. I read a post on another fishing site from a guy I know that was fishing there around the 6th of Jan. and the water temp was 70. He was catching schooling bass on topwater lures with the air temp in the teens.
  16. If you know anyone with a LEI GPS unit, try your antenna hooked to theirs. That will let you know whether it's the unit or the antenna. edited: just thought of another possibility. Some LEI set-ups require the antenna to be separately powered. I don't know about the 480 you have, but you can download a manual from the Lowrance site to find out.
  17. He learned his lesson a couple years ago at Amistad when he kept missing some big bass with that big tube and EWG hooks. It's only a common sense observation of hook design to form that opinion. If I need the EWG style hook for fat baits, I open the bend to expose the point. "It ain't rocket science"
  18. I haven't been to Hyco this year yet, but it should be as good fishing as the hot side of Lake Anna. Some friends of mine fished Anna a week ago when it was 17 degrees and the water temp was 70 near the power plant outlet. They slayed the bass and some looked to be ready to spawn.
  19. When I meet some of my former co-workers and they ask me what I do since I retired, my answer is "I do two things, I either go fishing or I don't".
  20. I bought one at the show also. The sections are held together with a fabric. Kevin was one of the booth operators.
  21. Hammer 4, I've been using the 30# green line for a year. That is why I eagerly got the yellow after I heard it was made in that color.
  22. A lot of ole timers refer to them as a single word. Like, "did you catch them on a purpleworm?"
  23. This shop will have the prop: http://www.trollingmotorparts.com/default.aspx/MenuItemID/198/MenuSubID/44/MenuGroup/Home.htm
  24. dodgeguy, I finally found some of the new yellow Samurai. I got a couple hundered yards put on a reel from a 1500 yard spool. The store didn't have any 150 spools in that color or strength. This time I got the 40# which is 8# mono diameter. I'll be finessing with it.
  25. VolFan is correct, except for the sighting in process. Available higher power is nice for that part.
