  1. Triton21, why do you use a larger hook when Tx rigging the same bait? Why don't you use the same size hook with both riggings? I base my hook size on the bait size and anticipated fish size regardless of the presentation.
  2. If your cannot get on plane with the 9.9, and put the electric motors in the water, it will go slower due to the drag of the electric motors. Each electric motor would have to have the capability of the same prop speed and thrust of the 9.9 to give any benefit. My 9.9 Merc. 4-stroke pushes my Tracker 170 at a blazing speed of 7.4 mph. I could only get that by changing the prop from the stock 8.5 pitch to 6.5 pitch. The rpm with the stock prop would only go to 3,800 and I get 5,900 with the 6.5. When I had a 2-stroke Merc 9.9 on a 12' jon boat, it would run 25 mph with the stock 9.5 pitch prop. edited: when I put the 2-stroke on my friend's 1448 Grizzly jon boat, it would not get on plane with both of us. It pushed a lot of water but I do not know how fast it would go since he didn't have a GPS.
  3. Check out what is available from Pelican. I use the smaller sizes for cameras.
  4. For the guys that use hook sizes smaller than 3/0, do you use the same size hook (different style) when Tx rigging them? If not, why?
  5. 3/0 or 4/0 Octopus hook with weedguard added:
  6. When I used to have less than a dozen rigs, I did that for several reels. I got lazy and just got more rigs.
  7. I've done it for many years and I just used a trolling motor mounted transducer with a quality sonar unit.
  8. HOIST-N-HAWGS, the Tackle Tamer model will fit in your pocket easily. That is were I keep mine when I am Carolina rigging in timber when I am breaking off a lot.
  9. Thad, it should be a closed cell foam like the Styrofoam coolers are made of so it won't' soak up liquid. I have seen it available in 4' X 8' sheets for building insulation and is real cheap. There may be an easily/cheap available spray-in type also, but all I have seen is somewhat open cell.
  10. If you are going to be New River fishing in that boat, fill the seat tanks with foam floatation material. It's a good idea to do it regardless of it's use.
  11. Brunswick Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, acquired Lowe Boats n 2004. Brunswick Boat Group is the world's largest manufacturer of pleasure boats.
  12. That problem has alread been solved by several inventors. Here is one of them that I use with a hollow tube for carrying the beads, swivels, and weights: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0019540011688a&navCount=1&podId=0019540&parentId=cat600036&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20182-cat600036&catalogCode=2UG&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat600036&hasJS=true
  13. fishingfourfun, I have my 798ci SI set up for console and bow. I bought the trolling motor SI transducer, another mount and power cord so I could use it in both places since I fish several electric-only bodies of water also. I would recommend when/if you get one, order an extra power cord so you can practice with it in Simulator mode without having to be in your boat. I still use mine that way and even did the DI software upgrade with it laying in my lap.
  14. 0119, yes that is the name of the dye I have. It is made by Lake Hawk. I did a web search for it and could not find the product listed. All I could find is a mention of it in several articles. It may be discontinued. It has "Original" Dipping Dye on the lable.
  15. rednaticat, it doesn't make any difference. All you are doing is taking up space. It just takes more of the smaller line than it does of the larger line to take up that space.
  16. Maybe you can book this "guide" out of Lake Fork Marina:
  17. I assume you know that it has to be in water or at least hooked to a motor flusher so it won't destroy the water pump.
  18. A suggestion for those that use the yellow/gold braids: Color a section of the line on the reel spool with red soft bait dye. Even the yellow is hard to see in some lighting conditions on some stained water conditions. The dual colors are easier to locate especially if the water surface is broken up due to wind/waves. I use the Color-Rite non-scented type. You can use the scented colors if you choose. I just did a new spool of the Samurai for this picture:
  19. NewAngler, I have the 798ci SI mudkart, that image was done at Briery Creek Lake.
  20. Dogface, I took this combo screen shot yesterday with the HB Down Imaging:
  21. Uni-uni knot with 6 turns on both sides. A properly tied knot for that application will not slip so no coating/glue is needed.
  22. Yes, it does. I use Gold Stren Superbraid, Yellow Samurai, and Fireline Tracer Braid. I can see it, the fish don't care.
  23. Smallmouth: 21", 5# 8oz. caught at 20,000 acre Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia. Lure: 4" Zoom curlytail worm (cherryseed) on a split shot rig in 10' depth. Mid-day clear sky, about 60 degrees. 4/20/2001 Largemouth: 25 1/2", 10# 6oz. caught at 62 acre Chris Green Lake, Albemarle County, Va. Lure: Zoom Finesse worm (watermelon/red) weedless wacky rigged in 5' depth. Mid-day, clear sky about 70 degrees.5/17/2006 Longest bass: Largemouth, 27", 10# 4oz. caught at 845 acre Briery Creek Lake, Virginia. Lure: Zoom Finesse worm (watermelon/red) weedless wacky rigged in 4' depth. Mid-day, cloudy, about 60 degrees. 4/22/2005
