  1. What is the best Expected Position Accuracy you have seen with the GPS system you use for fishing? Include the make and model of your equipment.
  2. I got this advertizement from a tackle dealer. Those that are skiddish about using swivels may want to try them: http://www.aquateko.com/
  3. What substance is the dealer using to attach the transducer to the hull?
  4. I snell with a 5 turn uni-knot on any hook style. It's a lot easier with braids though.
  5. For this time of year, in the cove across from the ramp, the best producing area is from the right point on in to about 50 yards. Did you get any slamadmers trying to mate with your plastic worms?
  6. Use cable ties to attach your transducer cable to the arm of the trolling motor mount. That way it cannont get pinched by the mount. If you have a foot controlled model, just tie the cable to the steering/power connection at the head and all the way down to the foot control. When you pull up the motor to stow, keep the side of the motor that the cable goes around on top.
  7. Paul, I fished Lake Fork for 5 days just before Memorial Day with the surface water temp ranging from 85 to 91 degrees. Some of the bass caught that I and the guy I was fishing with offered quite a bit of resistance and none of them had any hint of red teeth. All the bass were caught in less than 10' depths. The lake I fished yesterday had 84 degree surface temps and some of the 3#-4# class bass I let swim around until they gave up. No red teeth. All of those were caught in less than 10'. I didn't take the time to get a bottom temperature-- I will next week. Still checking though.
  8. No, it doesn't. I tried it after reading this post. I cut a lizzard in half and all the Mend-It would do is create a film with no affect on the Elaztic.
  9. Yes, you are getting interference from your trolling motor. Call Humminbird for their trolling motor interference kit and also check the trolling motor to see if it has the internal grounding wire (brown I think). I get interference with my Motor Guide that I cannot eliminate.
  10. Just about all soft plastic baits sink. So mostly to have them above the bottom, you get that when the rig falls thru the water column and the sinker hits the bottom first. To repeat the bait higher than the sinker during the retrieve, you have to raise the sinker off the bottom and let it fall again. Most of the floating soft plastics are the ones made of Elaztic like the Strike King series of baits which will stay above the sinker. Those "classic" photos and drawings with the lure quite a ways above the sinker are misleading in most cases. Enter the modern world and use the terninology of the subatance the lures are made of (soft plastic). I don't know of any company that has made a "rubber" worm in the past 50 years.
  11. I use the discontinued gold color Stren Superbraid 20#-30# and the Samunrai in yellow 40#. Most of the time I use a 3'-4' flurocarbon leader for weight to make the braid sink. With or without the leader, I have no problem catching bass in clear water (up to 10' visibility) using finesse presentations. The line is at least 10 times smaller in diameter than a finesse worm and the fish will take a bright colored worm so they are not afraid of the bright line.
  12. A lot fishing related web sites have a "for sale" section, try those. If you know what brand and model you want, then type that in Google and all the ones on the web will be shown.
  13. Simple fix. When you use the superlines that are 8# mono diameter or less, Tie a piece of mono to the hook, cut off the tag ends and slide that knot around to the gap, Then tie on your superline. The mono knot will keep the superline away from the gap so it can't slip out. The larger wire hooks don't seem to have that happen like the smaller wire hooks. An alternative is to try a drop of supeglue on the hookeye/knot after tying, but it doesn't hold very long. If you don't do either, when Tx rigging, put the hook in deep enough to bury the hook eye about 1/8", the bait will hold the line away from the gap. An additional rigging is to snell the hook which puts the knot on the hook shaft so any slipping that occurs will put the knot in the eye.

  15. I did a google search for 1986 Dawson bass boat and your post on this site is the only reference to that year and model. Maybe your title is incorrect.
  16. I did a Google search for "1242 jon boat" and found this: http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/257683313/12_Jon_Boats_Weldbilt_1242_F.html Try the same with a 1248 jon boat.
  17. A simple Google search found this: http://www.iboats.com/Dawson_Boats__Bass_Boat/bp/41br2159c11 Just select a year and then select some of the models.
  18. Use the Horny Toad hook. Rig it with the hook bend between the legs with the hook point skin hooked on the back. Don't put the hook thru the body so the Toad will swing out of the way on the hookset and not take up any hook bend space. The middle hook and second from the top rigged Toad.
  19. I got a phone call this morning about 9:30 from the lake and the guy had caught an 8-12 (his PB). He called back about 10 minutes later and had caught a 6-2. Both were with a weedless wacky rigged finesse worm in about 7' depths. June is one of the top months for numbers.
  20. Look for the "Plotter only" models from each mfg. The contour lines are added map software that is available pre-loaded or as an internal memory addition-like Garmin. Lowrance and Humminbird can be ordered with added mapping or can use mapping software contained on memory cards. You have to determine of any available software has the bodies of water you are interested in and which mfg can read that software.
  21. Do a Google search for the 798. I did in Dec. 2009 and found one for $840, no tax, and free shipping. I chose the 798ci SI because of the internal GPS antenna. The external antenna model is 798c SI. Both units display with the same sharpness, but the 798 has a wider screen. Both have the same functions with updated free software.
  22. Parts of those maps and some of the Navionics lake maps come from several sources and are only as accurate as the source maps. When you find a body of water to be different than the position shows, use the map offset feature in your menu to move the map to the correct position on your display. Turn off the offset when on another body of water to check for any position errors.
  23. I make them with the chair leg plastic tips and a lead egg sinker flattened to fit inside the plastic.
