  1. Lunker City (they market Sluggos) has lead nail weights in 3/64 and 3/32 oz sizes. I use them for wacky rigging finesse and Trick worms. I also use steel finishing nails (mostly the size 3D)
  2. One of the best presentations I have used for that senario is a Chatterbait.
  3. Read this article about .410 ballistics: http://mcb-homis.com/slug_410/
  4. When I want to add some challenge back to the general firearms hunting season, I use handguns too. I have a T/C Contender with a .30/30 barrel and a 7/30 barrel. Both have scopes on them. The .30/30 will produce 3/4" groups at 100 yards with my handloads. When I what to add a little more challenge, I use a Ruger Redhawk with no scope. I changed the wooden grips to the rubber Hogue that doesn't have the grip screw in hand contact. That screw depression used to hurt my fingers after 50 or so rounds. I also do the archery and primitive firearms thing too.
  5. For me it is the Zoom Finesse Worm, BUT the rigging is the key to success (note avatar with Trick worm). The states include Va, N.C., Florida, Alabama, and Texas. Every bass 9# plus, including several double digit bass was with that presentation. All since 1980 over 7# were weighed and then CPR (catch, photograph, release).
  6. If I HAD to use a monofilament on a spinning reel it would be McCoy. I don't have to, so I use a superline.
  7. All of you are not considering the fish. They eat at anytime during a 24 hour period. They don't starve if their food doesn't have rattles in them (baitfish). A crankbait simulates a baitfish or crawfish, they can find it and eat it whether or not is is noisy or silent-any color-clear water or muddy water-night or day.
  8. Another "issue" may be the gear ratio of the Sedona being 6.2:1 if your spinnerbait has much water resistance. Your tackle should fit the presentation.
  9. That is quite common in the late Summer on lots of lakes with a low current flow. That is why the thermocline pattern works so well. This was late last summer at a small lake in Va near Fredericksburg with a similar profile. No thermometer was needed to see the temperature changes.
  10. I don't know all of what that connection allows, but it does make the handheld the GPS antenna. The unit itself has to be a sonar unit that is GPS capable. It doesn't make a chart plotter out of a track plotter though like the Humminbird 718 and 728. It also does not make the sonar unit a monitor (larger display) for the handheld unit.
  11. A regular sonar unit will not show what is around you unless you are in very deep water. The sonar pulse is a cone shape and the area it covers is about 1/3 the depth. If you what to know what is away from you, the Imaging technology will do that. This screen shot is from Humminbird Side Imaging unit. I was fishing a creek channel (the dark band on the right side) that had a school of shad in it and bass were chasing them (the white streaks). Note the depth. The boat position is the centerline and the transducer is showing to the right and left at the set range (at the top).
  12. How did you determine the difference in the mounting hole locations?
  13. You made a good decision with the XP 9 20 shoot-thru addition. Did you get the AS SIDB Y cable also? That transducer location should be determined by testing BEFORE you epoxy it to the hull. You probably have a location prepared in your hull for shoot-thru transducer installations. Check it out first. Follow the transducer installation instructions for testing. Send me a picture of your transom with the motor raised up all the way and I'll mark the location for the SI tranducer. purdum43@aol.com
  14. For the SI transducer, what are you expectations for that transducer? Your proposed location is not the best from what I can tell in your picture. Why is the Lowrance transducer at that location? What boat brand and style is it?
  15. If you do your shopping at a marine electronics dealer instead of Bass Pro, Cabelas, or any big box general sporting goods place, you can get the best DI/2D unit available now within your price range---788ci HD DI. That model has dual card slots for mapping and recording/snaphots instead of the single one that the 597ci HD DI has. The power, and display is the same. For 2012, Humminbird will have larger screen DI/2D units on the market (higher price too). Those units are easy to install if you read the instructions.
  16. Yep, you can do it this way----http://store.humminbird.com/products/322947/AS_HHGPS The unit you hook it to has to be a GPS combo unit The best way is to get the waypoints with your handheld, then load them to a Lowrance, Humminbird, or Garmin sonar/GPS unit. If you think you can hook up a regular sonar unit to a GPS unit and have that function, you cannot.
  17. 5/0
  18. No way would I use a Kahle hook for bass fishing, that has a worse hookup ratio than the finesse wide gap. That hook is best used for trotline catfishing.
  19. Where is your transducer installed? How is the unit powered? Have you checked the unit voltage readout when it acts up? It could be the power cord plug to unit receptacle fit, common with that type mount system.
  20. Were you using the 2/0 or smaller? That hook by design will cause missed fish due to the hook eye being so close to the hook point and bend. The flimzy plastic weed guard won't affect hookups. If you insist on that hook, use a larger size, minumum 4/0. I did extensive testing with that model when it first came out--all the ones I had were included in a trash pickup. That is why I make my own weedless hooks using Octopus hooks.
  21. Yep, I've seen them in a lake in my area that used to be a rock quarry water supply source.
  22. I was fishing yesterday and didn't notice any difference in the results from last week. Did notice the standing timber was shaking and bubbles all around the boat though for a few seconds.
